Chapter 1746: They did betray us

As soon as we felt this pressure coming from in front of us, all of us couldn’t help raising our guards.

I wasn’t as bad as the others, but it was clear that there was some trauma that had been left on some of the members of the racial alliance.

After all, they remembered how helpless they had been at the hands of Famine of the Four Omens.

They knew that even if they wanted to do something, they wouldn’t actually be able to do anything. It wasn’t as if they had gotten that much stronger since the time that they faced Famine.

Just this bit of strength that they gained was far from being enough to face another one of the Four Omens.

After a while, they all looked at me as if they were asking me what we should do.

In response to this, I simply said, "Charge."

Everyone was surprised to hear this, but they still followed my order in the end even if they had to force their bodies to go against that fear that they felt. They could move in the end since there was honour and duty that was pushing them forward.

At the same time, there was a herd mentality that came over them.

If one person could move, then the others could move as well as they didn’t want to drag the others down.

That was why everyone charged forward in the direction that this pressure was coming from.

Only the moment that we approached, there was a collective roar that came from in front of us. After this roar rang out, there was a wave of mutated orcs and corruption energy monsters that suddenly came out.

There weren’t any Apostles of Destruction that came out with them though.

Seeing that there wasn’t anything that they couldn’t face, the racial alliance forces didn’t hesitate to charge at them.

But before they could actually clash with the mutated orcs and corruption energy monsters, I suddenly said, "Retreat."

Everyone was once again caught off guard when they heard this and some of them seemed unwilling to do so, but they followed my orders in the end.

Especially since I was the first one to run as soon as I gave this order.

Seeing me run like this, they all looked at me with strange looks.

There was no hiding the traces of disappointment that were in their eyes when they saw this.

But I just ran in the opposite direction that the mutated orcs and the corruption energy monsters were coming from. I didn’t stop for a single second as I had Joan fly as fast as she could to run away from them.

Seeing that we were running seemed to have given the mutated orcs and corruption energy monsters even more confidence as they sped up in an attempt to catch us.

Though it wasn’t that easy to catch us since we had come prepared.

All it took was a few well placed attacks to stop the mutated orcs and the corruption energy monsters from reaching us.

If there were Apostles of Destruction, then it would have been harder to deal with them. But since there were no Apostles of Destruction leading them, it was quite easy to lure them in like this.

After a while, it seemed like the others understood what I had been planning as they started moving all on their own.

They started using well placed attacks that split up the corruption energy monsters and the mutated orcs. At the same time, they started using attacks that landed on the edge of where the corruption energy monsters were that slowly whittled down their numbers.

While we were running, I was looking in the direction that the pressure came from to see if there would be any reaction coming from that place.

But in the end, it didn’t seem like that member of the Four Omens was planning on doing anything.

This made me deeply knit my brows.

"The straggler orcs and their refusal to chase us now that we’re here...it’s clear that they’re stalling for time to do something. I was hoping to bait them out, but it seems like this won’t work..."

Yes, all of this had been an attempt to bait out that member of the Four Omens.

Even if it didn’t bait out the final boss, it was an attempt to bait out some of their followers to make the fight after this easier.

Only it didn’t seem like they were taking this bait.

"It’s clear that there’s something that they were planning with the array, especially since they’re bringing in all of those mutated orcs..."

The other thing that I noticed was the forces of the Democratic Union following us.

It was easy for me to find them with my sharp senses, even though they had been using an illusion array to hide themselves. With my eyes, it was easy for me to see through this array that they used.

"So it turned out that they did betray the racial alliance." I thought to myself when I saw the look on the faces of the general from the Democratic Union.

He had a calm look, but there was a trace of excitement in his eyes that really was hard to hide.

He thought that he was hiding it enough with the illusion array, but I could see right through that array and see his true face.

So I could tell that he wasn’t excited because he saw this as a chance for him to make it up to the racial alliance. Rather, it was clear that he saw this as a chance to make his problems disappear.

It was a very subtle difference, but I could see it.

As such, I knew that he had betrayed the racial alliance.

It wasn’t just the general alone that betrayed the racial alliance, it was the entire Democratic Union.

After all, the general alone wouldn’t be bold enough to do something like this all on his own.
