San Tian Liang Jue
Chapter 28 Ghastly Shadow City Arc (5)
Simply put, there were three players capable of clearing the game and two almost useless burdens...
Wang Tanzhi's face and clothes were splattered with quite a bit of foul blood spewed out by the monster infants. Fortunately, the monster's bodily fluids didn't have any toxins or other special effects; it just made him smell unpleasant. Long Aomin had his shield, so his clothes were relatively clean. But Feng Bujue suffered a more serious "contamination," though he quickly resolved the problem.
Feng Bujue seemed to have already figured out a solution. After killing the last enhanced mutant infant, he turned and headed straight for a car, opened the door, and tore off a seat cover. Then he went to a fire hydrant on the side of the road, loosened the valve with a pipe wrench, and water flowed out. He used the seat cover like a rag, using the flowing water to wipe his face and clothes, quickly cleaning up the mess on his body and washing away the strange smell.
Wang Tanzhi followed suit, tearing a piece of cloth from the car and squatting down next to Feng Bujue to clean himself.
Long Aomin went to observe each of the monster infants' corpses, confirming that they were all thoroughly dead before he breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the curb, allowing his stamina to slowly recover.
Lonely and Silent walked over, returning to the range of the streetlights. "Thank you. If it weren't for you guys, we'd probably be finished," Lonely said, his tone much more humble. At first, he thought his level was at least higher than those two level five guys, so he should have more say. But now, he wouldn't question the correctness of Feng Bujue's suggestions anymore.
"Before we reach the coordinates of the demon gate that I predicted..." Feng Bujue had already washed his face clean. He wiped his clothes and pants as he said, "...we need to find each of you a piece of equipment. Even if it's broken, it's better than bare hands."
"This city in the script is very big. I think it won't be difficult to find something that can be used as a weapon on the road. If it really doesn't work, we can pick up an iron rod, or use Brother Feng's pipe wrench to take apart some parts to use as weapons," Long Aomin replied. "By the way, what you said earlier... about the three possibilities of darkness..."
"The first... the surrounding light didn't actually dim, it's just that our vision and hearing were interfered with in the same second," Feng Bujue replied directly. "Our eyes were blinded by darkness, and strange sounds entered our ears, but everything around us was actually the same." He paused. "If this assumption is true, there is a problem. Is the 'entity' that is interfering with us hiding near us, just that we can't see it... or is it acting from a very far away place?"
Hearing the words "nearby" and "can't see," the other four felt goosebumps, only Feng Bujue himself didn't seem to care.
"Furthermore, why did the last monster change? Did the thing that influenced us use those few seconds to apply some ability to that monster as well?" He wiped himself clean and threw away the seat cover. "I don't want to dig too deep into these temporarily unverifiable inferences right now. Hmm... let's talk about the second possibility, that the darkness is real, engulfing the entire city and even the entire world in this script."
Wang Tanzhi interjected, "How can that be done? Those streetlights don't count, but the moon isn't a light bulb, you can't just turn it off, can you?"
"No matter how it's done, let's assume that some force has succeeded. Then... what happened just now may be that this world was quickly swallowed by an unknown darkness, and it lasted for several seconds. During these seconds, the monsters... very likely underwent physiological mutations and enhancements under the influence of this darkness."
He put away the pipe wrench and also sat down on the curb. "I personally prefer this second possibility. This darkness is more like a natural phenomenon, and its targets and effects are not specific, not just generated to target us."
Long Aomin said, "What about the third possibility?"
"The system temporarily revised the script because of the efficiency we showed when killing the first four monsters," Feng Bujue replied.
"No way?" Silent said. "Lonely and I have played two dungeons before, and we've never seen this happen. Even if the team encounters monsters and fights them quickly and easily, the dungeon difficulty doesn't suddenly increase."
Lonely added, "We also encountered players of about Brother Long's level before. The monsters in the early stages of the script were almost instantly killed, so I said at the beginning that with a level ten player leading us, we could brute force our way through." He was telling the truth, but in the previous script, that level ten player didn't have the intention or actions to protect them specifically, so they still died later.
"Hmm... I also think the third possibility is very small," Feng Bujue replied thoughtfully.
In fact, he thought of this hypothesis mainly because of the situation the AI set for him in the previous single-player survival mode. At this moment, he quickly rejected this possibility: "This is my first time playing a team survival mode, and I'm not very clear about the actual situation, so... this possibility can be ruled out."
Wang Tanzhi also cleaned himself up at this time. He stood up and said, "The first two possibilities can be verified after a while, right? If it's according to what Brother Jue said, then no matter which one it is, as long as the script continues, the darkness will descend again."
"That makes sense..." Long Aomin stood up, his stamina had recovered a bit. "Then we better solve the equipment problem for Lonely and Silent before we encounter monsters or the darkness descends again."
Feng Bujue also stood up and said, "The route I plan to take will pass through a police station. When we get there, we'll go in and search. Maybe there will be guns, police batons... if we're lucky, bulletproof vests, masks, and shields, we have a chance to find them." He seemed to be unable to restrain himself. "I've wanted to try shooting a shotgun for a long time..."
Hearing this, Long Aomin only felt his heart tremble. Feng Bujue's tone sounded like a perverted murderer lacking the conditions to commit a crime...
After discussing for a few minutes, the group set off again, heading towards the police station that Feng Bujue mentioned. Although the oppressive atmosphere of darkness around them remained, and they didn't know how many monsters were hidden in the shadows that they couldn't see, the five of them still had some expectations for the police station that Feng Bujue described.
You should know that in the early stages of the game, firearms are rare items. If they can find a gun, and a powerful shotgun or submachine gun at that, it would be worth it even if they died halfway through the script.
