Chapter 395 Nancy's Narration (Part 1)
After Jack left the study, Feng Bujue sat back down with a smile, then turned to look at Schofield, who was looking grave, and said, "What do you think? Detective."
Schofield replied, "Very suspicious... So far, he's the biggest suspect, right?"
"Indeed..." Feng Bujue continued, "Jack has a motive for murder, time to commit the crime, and the ability to do so. But... I don't think he's the killer."
"Oh?" Schofield asked doubtfully, "Why?"
Feng Bujue asked in return, "Detective, if you were Jack, what would be your mindset when you saw your father and brother arguing fiercely?"
"This..." Under Jue Ge's reminder, Schofield put himself in Jack's shoes for a moment, and immediately realized, "I should be happy!"
"That's right." Feng Bujue nodded in affirmation, "If his motive for murder... or rather, his ultimate goal is the family fortune, then seeing this kind of scene today, he should be secretly pleased. After all, in the eyes of his family, he is just rebellious and unpromising, which is not an irreconcilable contradiction. But... what the conflict between Dennis and Coulson is all about is not clear..."
"So?" Schofield asked tentatively.
"So, logically speaking, even if Jack had the idea of murdering Dennis, he wouldn't choose to do it today." Feng Bujue continued, "In my opinion... after the 'gunshot incident,' Jack's statement was because he saw his father and brother arguing, and was secretly pleased, so he spoke carelessly in his delight. This sentence did inadvertently reveal some of his inner thoughts. But... the person who really wants to commit murder will instead show no signs beforehand, and will never leave such obvious flaws."
He paused, and then said, "Also, did you notice his wording at the end... 'Whether there is a motive or not,' this sentence is basically equivalent to admitting that he had the thought of killing, but he is not afraid at all... Whether from the eyes, tone, or subtle body language, the sentence 'Anyway, I didn't kill anyone' is the truth." Jue Ge rested his elbow on the table, propping up his cheek, and said, "The confidence in his words is not the confidence of a criminal, but the confidence of an innocent person. There is a difference between the two. The former believes that the police cannot find sufficient evidence to convict him, while the latter... is simply because he has done nothing. Jack belongs to the latter, with a bit of 'a straight foot fears no crooked shoe'..."
"Then..." Schofield pondered, "The possibility of Jack being the killer can basically be ruled out, right..."
"Yes." Feng Bujue responded, "From the current stage... Coulson, Henderson, Oliver, Carol, and Jack, these five people's suspicions can be temporarily ruled out."
Schofield began to recite, "There are a total of nine suspects, so now the only ones left are... the family doctor Mr. Powell, the gardener Mr. Barton, Miss Nancy, and Madam Odette, these four people." He paused here, "Right... Miss Nancy only arrived after the incident, so she should be able to be directly ruled out, right?"
"Who said that?" Feng Bujue said, "Nancy is fully capable of committing the crime, even more advantageous than others." His eyes changed slightly, "If we can find a motive, then her suspicion is even greater than Jack's."
Knock, knock, knock—a knock on the door sounded.
Speak of the devil, and he appears...
"Miss Nancy has been brought in, sir." Dempdy's voice happened to sound from outside the door.
"Please come in." Schofield responded.
The door opened, and Miss Nancy walked in. Her attire was quite neutral: she was wearing a plain white blouse, with a jacket over it, and her lower body was a classic pair of jeans and long boots with thickened heels. This daughter of a noble family seemed to have not been infected with the artistic atmosphere of Vienna at all, but rather looked like she had taken a trip to the American West.
However, her tomboyish dress would not hide her charm. Miss Nancy was still an eye-catching beauty. On that fair and delicate face were bright eyes and white teeth, full lips and a delicate nose, and a head of golden hair casually draped over her shoulders, reflecting a touch of light under the lamplight.
Different from Madam Odette's mature and sexy classical beauty, Nancy exuded more youthful vitality. The determination and competence revealed in her eyes also made Feng Bujue vaguely see a bit of the aura of a new era feminist.
"Hello, Miss Nancy." After Dempdy closed the door, Feng Bujue spoke, "It seems that we haven't formally met yet..." He stood up, walked out from behind the desk, and extended his hand, "My name is Feng Bujue, and I'm a detective."
Nancy politely shook the other party's outstretched hand, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Feng." Her voice was as low as her emotions.
"This is Detective Schofield, you two also met in the lobby." Feng Bujue then introduced the detective.
Schofield stood up, holding the brim of his hat with one hand and extending the other, "At your service, madam."
"Pleased to meet you, Detective." Nancy shook hands with him and replied.
"Please sit down, Miss Nancy." Feng Bujue said, "Don't be nervous, we just have some questions to ask you."
"Okay." Nancy replied as she sat down, "But I can't guarantee that I can help you, you know, when I arrived... Dennis was already..."
"Is that really the case?" Feng Bujue's attitude suddenly took a sharp turn.
"What did you say?" Nancy asked with a puzzled look.
"Maybe... the time you arrived here was earlier than we know..." Feng Bujue was using his actions to let this group of NPCs know what "to condemn someone, one can always trump up a charge" meant. (idiom, meaning it's easy to accuse someone when you already have a bias)
"What... what do you mean?" Nancy sensed that there was something hidden in the other party's words.
"I'm using my imagination." Feng Bujue replied, "This is a very important skill for a detective. We must both follow logical principles and common rules, but we cannot be bound by these inertial ways of thinking." He smiled, "In short... what I'm about to say may sound very bizarre, and may even offend you. So... I would like to state in advance that everything I say is just speculation, and if some of the content makes you feel unhappy, I hope you can understand."
"Hmm... sure enough, is he using this trick again... but Miss Nancy clearly only appeared after the incident, how can he frame her like this..." Schofield thought in his heart, he really couldn't imagine what kind of reasoning Feng Bujue would come up with.
"What exactly are you going to say?" Nancy asked.
Feng Bujue sneered, swung his arm and pointed, and said to Miss Nancy with great momentum, "The murderer who killed Dennis... is you! Nancy Lovecraft!"
