Chapter 499: Chapter 185: Secrets (Part 2)

However, since the attendants hoped the Hero wouldn’t help, the Hero didn’t resist sitting back and enjoying the fruits of their labor.

As the sky gradually darkened, the Hero and the Fourteenth Princess sat at the ready-made camp.

While waiting for tonight’s dinner, they began discussing the topic of meteors.

Meteors have been shrouded in mystery since ancient times; some Mages consider them as omens of the future, while others see them as symbols of disaster.

But there is a more widespread, more mundane, yet more rational belief that meteors signify wealth.

The value of Outer Heaven Meteor Iron surpasses that of gold of the same weight, and even the Dwarves in the mountains are enamored by its Radiance, lifting their heads from their constant mining to gaze at the Stars, dreaming whether those twinkling specks are vast mineral treasures.

Regardless of the imagination, most people commonly agree: the falling of Stars brings change.

“In the Capital, I heard of a Viscount who, to awaken Star power when inaugurated as a Magician, went so far as to sell off his family property to purchase Meteorite Iron, grinding it into powder to brew tea with…”

The notification from the Kingdom Observatory was delivered via the Communication Array, and only the village chief grandma’s home in the village had one set up,

even the Fourteenth Princess had no other sources for intelligence on this matter, so it was the Hero who informed her about the upcoming meteor shower, which made her quite expectant now, talking about some interesting anecdotes she had heard in the Capital.

“So what happened to that person? Did they succeed in awakening?” the Hero asked out of curiosity.

“That Viscount…”

The Fourteenth Princess shook her head, not needing to be told, the Hero could tell from her expression that the outcome for that person was probably not good.

The Hero couldn’t help but look up at the night sky, the White Moon hanging high, the Grey Moon hidden, dotted with countless Stars.

She recalled her mother, rumored to have ties with the Moon People, and ancestors who had been to the White Moon, and thought of her father, entangled with both, full of mysteries.

The Fourteenth Princess had shared stories about her family, the Royal Family, with all its gossip, and some stereotypes people held, like the belief that Royal Family members always schemed against each other, or the rumors that the King’s harem was rife with plots and poison, but through the eyes of the Fourteenth Princess, her family, while not perfect, was harmonious enough.

The Fourteenth Princess knew some of the King’s life flaws, and while some mothers did strive for favor, they didn’t secretly mistreat others, and though her many siblings had varied relationships, they were familiar with one another and never engaged in life-death struggles.

Of course, this might be because the present King was still robust, with no disputes over succession, but no matter what, to the Fourteenth Princess, the Capital is her home, and a gentle smile always appears on her face whenever she talks about going home.

But what about herself? The city where she grew up wasn’t far, yet when looking back, aside from anxiety and avoidance, the Hero found that she didn’t have much deep understanding of her parents.

“Thinking too much about things I don’t know won’t help now… I’ll have to face it eventually…” The Hero reined in her scattered thoughts and quietly encouraged herself,

when suddenly, the Fourteenth Princess stood up, joy filling her loud exclamation.

“Look quickly! A meteor!”

The Hero and the others in the camp hurriedly looked up but missed the Stars that had just streaked across the sky.

Hundreds of meteors sounded plentiful, but dispersed throughout the central Kingdom, the number visible in each region or time period probably wouldn’t exceed five fingers.

But perhaps luck was on their side, for before the Hero could lower her head, she saw another meteor streak by, the light of its trail lingering in her emerald green eyes, causing the Fourteenth Princess beside her to lower her head, no longer concentrating on the brilliant starry sky.

However, after calling out, the Fourteenth Princess suddenly had a slight change in expression, cautiously taking a couple of steps.

“What’s the matter, Princess?”

The Fourteenth Princess smiled sheepishly, took out a Cleansing scroll, and pointed towards a small forest nearby.

The Hero also showed a somewhat embarrassed expression, nodded knowingly, watching as the Fourteenth Princess waved away her attendant and walked alone into the woods.

The vicinity of the camp had been thoroughly scouted by Demon Hunters, and with the Hero’s Perception continuously expanded, no one worried about the Fourteenth Princess encountering danger.

But suddenly, the Hero’s expression froze, as the chaotic Magic Element in the atmosphere abruptly sounded an alarm in her mind.

In the next instant, she turned into a Raging Wind, flashing to the front of the Fourteenth Princess, learning from past lessons, the two tightly clenched Finger Claws clashed against her chest, sparking flames and unfolding a golden eggshell.

The next second, a meteor’s trajectory linked from the high heavens to the earth, crashing into the forest not far from the camp, toppling trees, flinging debris, with the shock wave sweeping across the camp, instantly turning the well-arranged camp into a mess.
