Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Whip Her
Mr. Rowan has arrived, someone is backing Lillian Sterling, and the scene swiftly changes.
Gregory Sterling quickly abandons Serena Sterling and walks over to Mr. Rowan, becoming obsequious, "Godfather, thank you for making time in your busy schedule to come; we’ve all been waiting for you."
Mr. Rowan is a plump man with a shrewd businessman’s face. He pats Lillian Sterling’s hand, "Gregory, I heard that someone has been upsetting Lillian recently, making her unhappy. I married my goddaughter to you to bring her happiness, not grievances. Do you understand this?"
Gregory Sterling stiffens, having just made a promise to Serena, and now he receives a slap in the face from Mr. Rowan, leaving him between a rock and a hard place.
Gregory Sterling, someone particularly traditional and concerned about face, can no longer maintain his dignity. All he wants is for Mr. Rowan to invest and solve the cash flow crisis first.
"Yes, Godfather, I will be good to Lillian. Our feelings won’t be affected by those external rumors; this is the best proof of our wedding anniversary." Gregory Sterling closes his eyes and goes all in.
Mr. Rowan looks at Lillian, "Lillian, what do you think?"
Lillian Sterling, almost on cloud nine, was earlier so frustrated, and now she is gleeful. She glances at Gregory Sterling and barely says, "We’ll see how he behaves in the future."
"Gregory, did you hear that? You must perform well in the future and satisfy my goddaughter," Mr. Rowan commands.
"Yes, yes, yes," Gregory Sterling nods vigorously.
Mr. Rowan has a high status; he’s a business magnate. The rich merchants at the scene quickly crowd around him to chat.
Lillian Sterling keeps clinging to Mr. Rowan’s arm, flaunting herself in front of Serena Sterling and those rich ladies who ignored her earlier.
The looks on those rich ladies are not too pleasant.
Bella Sterling finds it particularly enjoyable; she looks at Serena Sterling and mocks sarcastically, "Serena Sterling, didn’t you see that? You’re no match for my mom. As soon as my god-grandfather arrives, everyone, including my dad, must bow to my mom."
Serena Sterling looking at Lillian and Mr. Rowan basking in the limelight, finds it amusing, "Your mom found such a powerful godfather to back her up; she really is extraordinary, I must say I’m not as good as she is."
Bella Sterling didn’t expect Serena to say that; she feels like punching cotton, using no strength.
At this moment, a melodious piano sound plays in the hall; it’s time for the dance segment.
As the lead role, Gregory Sterling steps forward and extends his hand like a gentleman, "Madam, may I have the pleasure of a dance with you?"
Lillian Sterling, invited, feels vindicated. Lately, her relationship with Gregory Sterling has plummeted, he often doesn’t come home, and he even slapped her in public. Now, taking the opportunity, Lillian plans to deal with him properly and show Serena how her dad tries to please her.
Lillian directly looks at Mr. Rowan, "Godfather, let’s dance the first dance together."
Although Mr. Rowan is nominally a godfather, their relationship is not proper. Seeing Lillian’s charming demeanor, coupled with how they hadn’t seen each other for a while, Mr. Rowan quickly reaches out and grabs Lillian by the waist, "Alright, as you wish."
Mr. Rowan takes Lillian into the dance floor, and they begin to dance.
Gregory Sterling standing on the side, "..."
Fuming but not daring to speak!
Mr. Rowan dances with Lillian, "Lillian, is this the man you chose back then? Why do I think he’s useless?"
Lillian looks at Mr. Rowan, "If I didn’t marry him, could I marry my godfather instead? Wouldn’t your tigress at home eat me whole?"
Mr. Rowan, roused by her teasing, grabs her snake-like waist harder, "Come find me in the hotel room tonight."
Lillian had this in mind as well; Gregory Sterling wants investments, but would Mr. Rowan, being naïve, invest without something in return?
This all requires her to accompany him for a night.
"Serena Sterling, did you see that? My dad made my mom angry, and she won’t even dance with him. You must realize this: as long as my god-grandfather is here, my mom runs this household!" Bella Sterling says arrogantly.
Serena doesn’t bother with Bella and turns directly to Gregory Sterling, appearing obedient and concerned, "Dad, just now, Bella said you made Aunt angry, and she wouldn’t even dance with you. Bella also said Aunt runs the house. I’m sorry, Dad, that my involvement leads to Aunt’s punishment on you."
Because of the music playing, Serena raises her voice subtly, drawing enough attention from the surrounding guests.
Sure enough, everyone’s gaze gathers on Gregory Sterling, showing pity, sympathy, and ridicule.
Gregory’s face was already unpleasant, and now it’s ashen, glaring angrily at Bella Sterling.
Bella, frightened, shivers. She’s certain that if it weren’t for the guests, Gregory Sterling would have slapped her to release his anger.
Serena, seemingly unaware, speaks with worry, "Dad, is this Mr. Rowan really Aunt’s godfather? He seems so good to Aunt~"
Serena is a girl not yet 20, so when she says this, it seems out of worry and naïve admiration, but sometimes an innocent remark can stir thoughts.
Everyone’s eyes instantly shift to the dance floor.
Mr. Rowan dancing with Lillian’s snake-like waist, and their bodies almost pressing together, Lillian smiles charmingly, while Mr. Rowan’s gaze is improper, occasionally sneaking glances at Lillian’s rounded bosom.
Originally, Mr. Rowan came with the status of a godfather, and no one thought otherwise, but now Serena’s comment about "godfather" brings out the ambiguity between them.
Do you think this godfather is one of those kinds of godfathers?
Seems like it; even dancing, they ignite sparks.
What are you talking about? President Sterling is right over there.
Gregory Sterling stares at the dancing pair, clenching his fists, and the veins on his hand bulging, looking extremely grim.
Scum!
Just then, the door of the hall bangs open; someone arrives.
Lillian in the dance floor also hears the commotion, turning unhappily, "Who dares so boldly..."
Before the words finish, a whip swings toward her.
Ah!
Unable to dodge, the fierce whip lands squarely on her body.
She lets out a scream, falling to the carpet in pain.
"Who is it, who dares to attack in front of everyone?" Everyone turns to look.
Mrs. Rowan has arrived!
In Mrs. Rowan’s phone lies the video Serena sneakily took, showing Lillian tangled with Mr. Rowan, close dancing...
Mr. Rowan quickly leaves Lillian and rushes toward Mrs. Rowan, looking flustered, "Dear, why are you here?"
Everyone draws a breath, so it’s Mrs. Rowan who came.
