Chapter 98 Butterfree vs. Cutiefly

The three Combees led Xia Huna o and Chu Xiaodie through the forest to a sea of flowers.

Within this vast expanse of flowers lived all sorts of bug-type Pokémon. Xia Huna o and Chu Xiaodie were dazzled.

"Coach Xia, so many bug-type Pokémon."

Xia Huna o nodded. "Indeed. This is nature's artistry. You have Beautifly, so you must know about its uniqueness, right?"

"Of course. Beautifly's wing patterns vary depending on its region. I'm not sure exactly how many types there are, but it's said that many Trainers aim to collect all the Beautifly patterns in the world."

Xia Huna o turned to Chu Xiaodie. "Do you have such a goal? I've already spotted at least fourteen different patterned Beautifly in this flower sea. According to the league's statistics, there are only twenty known types of Beautifly."

Chu Xiaodie reached out and petted the Combees that had brought them. "No, I'll let them fly here. My only goal right now is Ribombee."

Xia Huna o and Chu Xiaodie walked along the perimeter of the flower sea for a while before finally finding a swarm of Ribombee. Chu Xiaodie watched the Ribombee feeding on flowers. "Finally found them. And there are so many Ribombee!"

Xia Huna o was also surprised. "While Ribombee are known to live in swarms, isn't this population a bit too large?"

As they were talking, a Ribombee suddenly noticed them. Then, the entire swarm flew over and danced above Chu Xiaodie's head. Chu Xiaodie looked at the swarm, so large and imposing. "Coach Xia, what's happening?"

Xia Huna o smiled knowingly. "Oh, that's nothing to worry about. They like you. People with a flower-like aura tend to attract many Ribombee. So, don't worry."

Chu Xiaodie heard this. "A flower-like aura?"

As she spoke, Chu Xiaodie crouched down. The swarm of Ribombee obligingly flew lower. Chu Xiaodie extended her hand, and immediately a few Ribombee landed on her palm. The scene was so harmonious that Xia Huna o couldn't resist taking out his phone to snap a photo.

"Alright, Xiaodie, stop playing around now. Let's get down to business."

Only then did Chu Xiaodie realize she was here to catch a Ribombee. While she was happy to have made friends with them, she couldn't forget her main objective.

"Ribombee, I'm here to catch Pokémon. Is there anyone who wants to go with me?"

The Ribombee became active upon hearing Chu Xiaodie's words. It seemed they were all willing to accompany Chu Xiaodie, which presented a dilemma. "Coach Xia, they all seem willing to be caught by me. What do you think we should do?"

"Then catch the one you feel most drawn to. Sometimes, these things are a matter of fate."

Although he said that, Xia Huna o still had the system quickly scan the data of the large swarm of Ribombee, hoping to find a relatively excellent individual.

Following Xia Huna o's suggestion, Chu Xiaodie carefully observed the Ribombee before her and finally chose one that was slightly smaller than the others. "Then it's you. Will you come with me?"

The Ribombee chosen by Chu Xiaodie flew up and down, expressing its joy. However, when Chu Xiaodie took out a Poké Ball, the Ribombee dodged the ball's light beam and flew outside the flower field.

"It seems this little one wants to prove itself. You'll need to have a battle. Be careful, I think this little one is close to evolving."

Hearing Xia Huna o's explanation, Chu Xiaodie, who had already taken out a Poké Ball, put it back and took out another. "In that case, go, Butterfree!"

Chu Xiaodie's Butterfree was her ace Pokémon, already past level thirty and heading towards forty. Cultivating a Pokémon to this level in their first year of college was very difficult. Furthermore, Chu Xiaodie's Butterfree had already used Gust in a previous Contest Spectacular...

We all know that every Trainer in Minglong Country must have one of the starter Pokémon as their first. Therefore, this Butterfree must be Chu Xiaodie's second Pokémon. For a battle to capture, whether it's raising a Caterpie from scratch or directly capturing a Butterfree, it's a long process. To raise a level thirty Pokémon in just over two years is quite a challenge. How did she achieve this?

Xia Huna o used the system to measure the stats of the Ribombee. It was level twenty-four, just a step away from evolving. However, with Chu Xiaodie's skill in bug-type Pokémon and Butterfree's certain level advantage, winning shouldn't be difficult.

Chu Xiaodie commanded Butterfree to attack first. "Butterfree, use Twister Powder!"

Butterfree flapped its wings, sending a gust of wind mixed with paralysis powder and sleep powder towards the Ribombee. The Ribombee flapped its wings and also stirred up a gust of wind. However, Butterfree's wings were larger than the Ribombee's, creating a more violent wind. Ultimately, the twin powders landed on the Ribombee.

Generally, targets hit by Twister Powder lose their ability to resist. However, the Ribombee merely swayed its body and then, as if nothing had happened, continued the battle.

Chu Xiaodie was surprised. "How is this possible?"

Xia Huna o was also taken aback. While some Ribombee have the ability "Shield Dust," Shield Dust's defensive effect doesn't apply to paralysis powder or sleep powder; it only targets the additional effects of moves. And these two powders are the primary effects.

However, Xia Huna o soon realized that if Twister Powder were to be described in the move list, its description might be something like this:

"Stirs up airflow with its wings, creating a whirlwind carrying powder that attacks the opponent, sometimes causing paralysis or sleep."

If this were the case, then the paralysis and sleep effects of Twister Powder would become additional effects of the move, with the main effect being the damage from the attack. In that scenario, it wouldn't be difficult for the Ribombee to use Shield Dust to block Twister Powder.

The Ribombee then countered with Twister Powder and followed up with Draining Kiss. Chu Xiaodie immediately had Butterfree use Gust to block the Ribombee. The Ribombee missed Butterfree and was instead sent flying into the air by the Gust.

"Butterfree, use Silver Wind!"

Butterfree stirred up a silver gust of wind with its wings, enveloping the Ribombee that had been blown into the air. Despite the Ribombee's attempts to break free through various means, it was ultimately hit by the full force of the Silver Wind.

Seeing the Ribombee struggling in the air, Chu Xiaodie threw a Poké Ball, capturing it. The Poké Ball landed, wobbled on the ground, and then stopped.

Chu Xiaodie happily ran to the Poké Ball and picked it up. "Yes! I've caught the Ribombee."

Releasing the Ribombee from the Poké Ball, Chu Xiaodie introduced it to her friends. Four Pokémon, all somewhat related to butterflies, flew into the sea of flowers, while Xia Huna o and Chu Xiaodie sat and watched them play.

Xia Huna o asked Chu Xiaodie, "With this, you have no more Pokémon with 'butterfly' in their name left in our current Pokédex version. What are your plans now?"

Chu Xiaodie hadn't thought about it. "I don't know. I'll take it one step at a time. I'm already happy being with them."

As she spoke, Chu Xiaodie pointed to the four little cuties flying in the flower field. "Look, they're happy too."

Xia Huna o looked at Chu Xiaodie's face. "You're right. Perhaps this is the life you want. But can you tell me why your Butterfree grew so fast? This isn't your first Pokémon, is it?"

Chu Xiaodie shook her head. "No, this is my first Pokémon."

Xia Huna o was puzzled. It was only after Chu Xiaodie's explanation that he understood what had happened.

When Chu Xiaodie was young, she had a good relationship with a Caterpie. She knew that Caterpie could evolve into Butterfree, and that it had "butterfly" in its name, just like her. So, she went every day to feed the Caterpie, hoping it would evolve sooner.

By her second year of high school, Chu Xiaodie voluntarily gave up her opportunity to choose a starter Pokémon, leaving the first Pokémon slot for the Caterpie that had already evolved into Butterfree. Her reason was that she had already chosen a Pokémon and didn't want a starter. While her school strongly disagreed with this, as it could affect their college admission rates, the league did not object, as it was a trainer's freedom.

Thus, Chu Xiaodie's first Pokémon was a level twelve Butterfree. It was with this Butterfree that Chu Xiaodie overcame numerous challenges to be admitted into Six Spirits University.

Xia Huna o gave a soft "oh." No wonder Butterfree's level was so high. This wasn't a Pokémon cultivated in just over two years; it had likely been nurtured for over ten years. If one were to create a stat table for her and Butterfree, the synchronization rate would surely exceed 800‰.

Xia Huna o and Chu Xiaodie let the four little ones play there for a while longer. Then, Xia Huna o stood up. "It's about time, isn't it? We should prepare to head back. You have class tomorrow."

Chu Xiaodie stood up. "That's right, it's time to go back to school. Thank you for today, Coach Xia."138Reading Network

Xia Huna o scratched his head. He hadn't done anything. Whether it was finding Pokémon or catching them, Chu Xiaodie had handled it all by herself. He wasn't sure why she had asked him to come.

However, just as Chu Xiaodie was putting the four Pokémon back into their Poké Balls and preparing to leave the secret realm, the sea of flowers suddenly became agitated. Various flower petals flew into the sky, and a Pokémon charged through the flowers, heading straight for Xia Huna o.

Seeing this Pokémon, Xia Huna o grinned. "Excellent! My third Pokémon has arrived. Quagsire, help me catch him!"
