Chapter 28: Invasion (Part 3)
Chapter 28: Invasion (Part 3)
Rafos:
The wooden ground around her froze and people’s movements slowed down. Stone and wind arrows appeared from nothing around her.
"Die!" — at her command, the arrows were sent toward the pack of wolves. Not a single wolf within her range survived, not even the White Night Wolves that had surrounded me — all died.
"Dark, welcome to hell. Serine!!! What are you doing here? Go back to your tent."
I stepped toward them, my legs trembling. I didn’t know whether it was because of Dark’s skill or because of Serine.
"What do you mean by that? Are you saying I’m too weak? I’m not leaving. You’re not my master here!"
Serine got angry at my words — that fool...
"No... ah..." I sighed.
The reason I said that was because I was afraid she might get hurt — or worse — die.
So I made up my mind and decided to protect her with my life until this chaos ends.
"Fine, as you wish. But stay by my side, don’t stray away. After all, you’re a mage — you need someone to protect you."
"You don’t need to say that. I’ll stand behind you and protect your back."
"Watch out! Another group of wolves is climbing up, you idiot, don’t turn your back to them!"
Ability [Stone Witch] – Skill: Stone Arrow.
She raised her staff, its violet gem glowing, and launched a sharp stone toward the wolf that tried to bite my neck.
Then I grabbed my massive sword and attacked everyone who dared come near Serine.
As for her, she helped me with her [Stone Witch] ability to prevent any wolf from inflicting serious damage on me.
As time passed, the number of White Night Wolves increased to more than twenty.
It became difficult for Dark to kill them quickly, allowing them to approach the watchers and other members on the wall — slaughtering the weaker ones.
"Forgive me... I couldn’t help... damn my weakness. If the Right Deputy Duran were here, he would’ve sliced them like sushi in seconds."
Dark frowned as she unleashed several skills from multiple elements.
At the same time, Serine and I were surrounded by three White Night Wolves.
I was drowning in my own blood, and she was gasping for oxygen — clearly, her mana was running out.
I just needed some time to breathe... this pressure...
One wolf leaped at me, another at Serine.
"I won’t allow you!"
I turned back and sent my fist crashing into the wolf’s face, sending it flying.
But I paid the price for ignoring the wolf that lunged at me and dug its claws into my back.
"Arghhhh... damn it!"
I grabbed Serine — 1.60 meters tall — and covered her with my large body.
"Not a single hair of yours will be touched... over my dead body... argh..."
"You idiot!!!! Turn around and protect yourself! I can handle it... why?! WHY?!"
Serine was shocked by my action — she hadn’t expected me to love her this much.
"Ahhh... why are you doing this for me? What’s the point of dying here? Go, you damn wolves... go to hell! Stay away from him!"
Ability [Stone Witch] – Skill: Stone Fangs.
She cried in grief as she cast her Rank C skill — her strongest.
Sharp stone pillars emerged from the wooden ground, piercing the stomachs of many wolves that were biting my shoulder and sinking their fangs into me.
That gave Dark time to unleash her Frozen Age and Wind Arrows, killing and giving us some breathing space.
"Damn it... we’re surrounded, no one left but us. There’s no end to them."
Fear and frustration filled Dark’s final words.
"We must find time to escape from the right wall and regroup with any surviving members. Together we can break through the wolves’ encirclement."
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Frozen Age.
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Swamp.
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Blood Arrows.
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Wind Arrows.
"My mana is nearly gone... I can’t use teleportation now. A dominant aura is blocking me."
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Minor Healing.
"This way, you can help us escape, Rafos."
"Yes..."
Some of my light wounds vanished, and my serious ones eased, allowing me to stand again and fight.
"Don’t act recklessly again... please... my heart nearly stopped."
Serine said, her cheeks blushing, making her look unbearably cute.
"Ehh..."
I was stunned by her sweetness — I didn’t expect her to be this gentle. My heart wasn’t ready for that.
"I’ll punish you after we get out of this hell."
Smoke rose from her head as she refused to look me in the face.
"Bobo... this isn’t the time for flirting! Mind helping me a little here?"
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Wind Arrows.
A smile appeared on Dark’s face.
"Hahaha... I won’t miss your punishment for anything..."
She stood and charged at the wolves under our cover.
We began retreating toward the right wall stairs to get into the camp.
But before we could reach it, a loud howling sound echoed again.
"Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..."
We all covered our ears.
"What a terrifying howl... it’s saturated with mana. That’s definitely a Lord-class beast. Damn it, why did it come to the forest’s edge? We have to run, no matter what — we can’t fight it!"
Dark said, sweat rolling down her forehead.
"My lady! The wolves are retreating!"
Serine said, surprised by what she saw.
"Hmmm... indeed. Has this hell finally ended? Wait... do you see what I see? What’s that giant light orb?"
"That... oh my god... my god! Get away now! That’s not an ordinary light orb... damn it!"
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Ice Wall.
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Stone Wall.
"It won’t be enough... tch."
Ability [Mana] – Skill: Barrier...
A stone and ice wall appeared to protect us all from the light orb.
The beam of light shot forth at incredible speed, crashing into the right wall — turning it into rubble and blasting open a massive hole with a deafening explosion.
We were sent flying along with two women, landing thirty meters inside the camp, away from the right wall.
—
Dark:
"Cough, cough... what immense power... is this the might of a Lord-class beast?"
I crawled out of the wooden and stone debris, blood dripping from my forehead as I spat more blood.
I survived thanks to my Mana Shield skill, which absorbed most of the damage.
Where are the two... did they die?
I thought, scanning the area in search of them.
I didn’t bother long — I heard crying and screaming.
"Ahhaaahhahhh... hhaaaahhh..."
—
Rafos:
I held Serine, drenched in her blood, with a wooden shard sticking out of her stomach.
"Don’t leave me... ah... Daaark! Where are you?! Heal her, please, I beg you!"
Tears began to shine in my eyes.
Serine smiled weakly, in pain.
"Don’t cry... cough, cough... you idiot... I’m glad I didn’t die alone... cough, cough live... and find someone better than me..."
She raised her bloody hand to my face, wiping my cheek as tears fell.
"Even though I wanted to stay by your side a little longer..."
The light in her eyes faded, and she left this world.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..."
"Rafos..."
A voice came from behind, with a hand placed on my shoulder, trying to comfort me.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! WHY!!! SERINE!!! ARGGGHHHH!!!"
I hugged her tightly.
—
Dark:
"Rafos... I..."
Huh?
A chill ran up my legs, and before me appeared a wolf — three meters tall.
The wolf was pure white, its fur moving on its own.
—
Royal Night Wolf:
By order of the Lord, the greatest threat was identified.
Immediately, I launched my strongest attack.
But the threat didn’t die — it required my personal intervention.
I appeared before my greatest threat — a woman.
To kill her, I sent my claws crashing into her mana shield, sending her flying.
I glanced at a man holding fresh meat — ignored him.
The main threat must be eliminated first.
I lunged again at the woman, slashing until her barrier tore apart after several strikes.
Then, with no mana left in her, her body was cut apart — turned into a fine meal.
The man remained — he too became a meal.
Threats confirmed eliminated.
"Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..."
I howled in confirmation.
And that marked the fall of the Right Wall.
