Chapter 22 Escaping Death

The tall figure gradually disappeared.

Zhou Xiaojun, the young man with yellow hair, darted to the figure's side.

"What are you doing? The great Mo Chen, eavesdropping on others?" he asked, disbelief and excitement filling him, like a child who had just stolen some melon.

Mo Chen, arms still crossed, his expression unchanged, glanced at him.

Zhou Xiaojun recognized this as Mo Chen's signal that he couldn't be bothered to deal with them.

But he and Mo Chen had been classmates since high school. No matter how earth-shattering the events outside, Mo Chen remained unfazed.

There was even a year when an earthquake struck during class.

While everyone else fled in panic, Mo Chen calmly walked out of the classroom.

He was then hit on the head by a falling brick and spent a week in the hospital.

But from beginning to end, his expression conveyed indifference to everything. He got injured, so be it, it didn't matter.

He looked rather insufferable.

Such a Mo Chen, actually lurking in a corner, eavesdropping?

Could he have been mistaken?

As if reading his mind, Mo Chen calmly stated, "You're mistaken."

Then he picked up his bag and turned to leave.

He was mistaken? Was Mo Chen really just here to pick up supplies from this aisle?

Meanwhile, Luo Shu continued to press Luo Xiaole, "What about Mo Chen's group? Should we go separately or with them?"

This question gave Luo Xiaole a headache.

Traveling with so many people meant a larger target and faster consumption of supplies.

But their group included Mo Chen.

Honestly, it was impossible for Luo Xiaole not to be tempted.

Not because of Mo Chen's breathtaking looks.

But because of his breathtaking skills!

Her stiffening periods were extremely dangerous, but if she traveled with Mo Chen, her chances of survival would likely increase significantly!

And Luo Shu's pressure would be less.

She rubbed her hands. She was willing, but they might not be willing to take her along.

She also disliked forcing things.

"Let's ask them where they're going later. If it's on our way, we'll try to travel together for a bit. If not... we'll stick to our original plan."

Luo Shu and Zhu Hui agreed!

Fifteen minutes later.

Everyone's backpacks were almost full.

With a shared sense of unspoken understanding, they returned to the large iron gate.

"We should go. Those zombies might break through the gate and rush in at any moment."

Zhou Xiaojun's words instantly dispelled the excitement, and tension returned.

"Right, would it be convenient to ask where you plan to go next?" Luo Shu, as the team's spokesperson, usually handled social interactions.

"We..." Zhou Xiaojun hadn't spoken yet.

A deep, magnetic voice from beside them, with an undeniable presence, cut in.

"Taiyang University."

Luo Xiaole was surprised.

Zhou Xiaojun was also surprised.

No one had expected Mo Chen to interject.

Zhou Xiaojun muttered inwardly, "Mo Chen, you actually answered? We haven't even decided where to go next, and you've already planned it for me?"

Why would we go to Taiyang University! There must be a lot of zombies there!

"What a coincidence! We're also planning to go to Taiyang University! How about we go together?" Luo Shu was the first to react and directly followed up.

"Well... that... wouldn't be impossible," Zhou Xiaojun scratched his head.

He looked at his companions.

Only two or three pairs of eyes still held disdain and doubt, as if to say, what's the benefit of bringing along a胖子 (pàngzi - fat person) and two scrawny girls!

But the others had no objections. After all, their group already had a few girls.

And Luo Xiaole had indeed contributed earlier.

In the apocalypse, people should band together to survive. Adding three more people wasn't a big deal.

Seeing this, Zhou Xiaojun had no reason to refuse.

Thus, Luo Xiaole and her two companions temporarily joined Mo Chen's team of over a dozen people.

Everyone decided to set off immediately, at least to get away from this haunted place with zombies behind them.

"Roar!"

Before they could even reach the main entrance, the relentless roar of zombies echoed from outside.

That large iron gate indeed couldn't hold the zombies back!

They had already clawed their way through in an hour!

Now, whenever Luo Xiaole heard the word "zombie," her first thought was: stiffness!

What were they waiting for? Run!

Without looking back, she gestured to Luo Shu and led the way towards another back door of the warehouse.

"Fall back, fall back! Into the warehouse, escape through the back door!" Luo Shu shouted to the others.

Everyone scrambled towards the back, fleeing for their lives!

A girl in the group, who had never spoken before, saw Luo Xiaole running far ahead.

Her expression immediately soured.

Why was she running so fast when it came to escaping?

Luo Xiaole, at the front, couldn't concern herself with the convoluted thoughts behind her.

Seeing the lock on the back door, she didn't hesitate. She pulled out her small knife and skillfully pried open the lock.

She instantly pulled the door open.

The air outside rushed in unexpectedly.

Luo Xiaole saw that the warehouse back door opened onto a quiet road, usually devoid of people.

Such a road was convenient for unloading goods during normal times, and now it was convenient for their escape. It was great!

There were usually few people on this road, and now there were even fewer zombies.

Luo Xiaole quickly pulled the door wide open to allow others to escape.

Only when everyone stood on the road, not a single person missing, did they truly breathe a sigh of relief.

This trip for supplies had been a near-death experience, but the harvest was extremely rich.

Those with more strength had their backpacks filled with food.

The weaker girls' bags were filled with light and filling chocolate bars.

Only Luo Xiaole's bag was filled with tools like hammers, nails, screwdrivers, and small knives...

She even had several reinforced saws.

She had only packed a few boxes of bear biscuits and chocolate bars as an afterthought.

She patted her bag contentedly.

She was already looking forward to the next trade.

"Don't just stand around like idiots!" Zhou Xiaojun's exasperated voice came from behind. "Aren't you afraid those zombies will come out again?"

The sky was gradually darkening, the light fading.

Everything around began to appear dim and hazy.

"Should we find a place to stay for the night? It feels too dangerous to travel when it's this late," Luo Xiaole couldn't help but say.

It was a joke. Traveling at night, even if she stiffened, she wouldn't be able to see where the danger was coming from!

No one could protect her then!

"Look how timid you are," the girl who had been displeased with Luo Xiaole earlier pouted unhappily.

Then, she turned to Mo Chen with joy, "Don't we still have Mo Chen? With him here, I'm not afraid."

"I am afraid," Mo Chen interjected out of nowhere, for some reason.

"Visibility is poor at night. Let's rest for a night." Mo Chen dropped his words and walked forward.

The girl felt a flicker of surprise.

Mo Chen, he had responded to her?

Zhou Xiaojun quickly ran up from behind, catching up to Mo Chen after a few steps, looking puzzled. "What's wrong with you today? Usually, you just go where we say and do what we say, without any objections."

"Why are you talking so much today?" The more Zhou Xiaojun looked, the more he felt something was off with Mo Chen.

"You wouldn't understand," Mo Chen looked straight ahead, showing no intention of engaging in a proper conversation, his eyes returning to their usual impassive state.

Seeing his aloof demeanor, Zhou Xiaojun suddenly felt relieved, thinking this was how Mo Chen was supposed to be.

He even felt a little perverted for having such a thought.

"Then where are we staying tonight?" Zhou Xiaojun was bewildered. This place looked deserted of zombies, but it also seemed to have no place to shelter.

Mo Chen was too lazy to speak further. He raised his slender fingers and lightly pointed forward.

Zhou Xiaojun followed his gaze and saw a small shop at the corner of the road ahead, resembling a snack bar.

The small shop was very hidden, mostly obscured by a large tree. It would have taken some effort to spot it even in broad daylight.

In this dim light, Mo Chen had seen it at a glance?

Zhou Xiaojun looked at his handsome, upright back and thought, this guy's skills are already so strong, and his night vision is this good too?

Heaven is unfair!

They finally arrived at the snack bar.

Mo Chen finally stopped.

Luo Xiaole, as usual, stepped forward to prepare to pick the lock.

She deliberately took two steps back, standing behind Mo Chen, facing the snack bar, and stood still for a moment.

Good, no stiffness.

At least there shouldn't be anything inside this shop.

Only then did she happily scurry forward to pick the lock.

The chain "clanked" and fell to the ground.

Luo Xiaole slowly pulled open the shop door.

Looking at the items inside, she was momentarily stunned.
