Chapter 996: Night Raid on the Night Sun Palace
The alley was secluded, empty of people, with a mottled stone wall standing at its end, pitted and scarred with the marks of time.
It was dusk, and the last rays of the setting sun fell on the wall, reflecting an orange-red light.
At that moment, the void behind the wall rippled, and a figure in a blue robe flashed out, none other than Han Li.
As soon as he entered the alley, he turned his wrist and took out a Reincarnation Temple mask, placing it on his cheek. A ripple of light spread out, and he transformed into a demon youth with a short horn growing from between his eyebrows, and walked towards the entrance of the alley.
Outside the alley, not far ahead stood a huge, leafy banyan tree, its verdant canopy like an umbrella in the sky. Under the tree, seven or eight idle people were gathered, chatting idly.
Before Han Li approached, he heard a burly man in black, with a loud voice, exclaiming:
"Nonsense, I think the Third Prince is doing a great job as regent. In the past, even going to the Maha District required repeated identity verification. Now, with fewer of the rules and regulations set by the First Prince, whether it's business or cultivation, it's much more convenient."
"That's not entirely true. When the First Prince was in power, not to mention the Luo Jia and Maha Districts, even our Black Heaven District had much better security. But look at now, there are street brawls every now and then. Once they start fighting, there's no end to it. They don't care if they get hurt or killed, and they destroy people's houses, disturbing the neighbors for nothing." Another gaunt old man, disagreeing with his view, retorted.
"If the two princes could compromise and rule together, that would be great..." A young demon boy, nestled in the old man's arms, said.
The others laughed at this.
"May I ask, seniors, I've been traveling from outside the city. What area is this?" Han Li stepped forward, gave a salute, and asked, feigning ignorance.
"You're from outside the city? This is the southernmost part of the Black Heaven District. Where are you planning to go?" The middle-aged man looked up at the young man who had suddenly appeared, and said.
"I plan to go to the Maha District to join a senior member of my clan. I thought I was almost there, but I didn't expect to still be wandering around in the Black Heaven District. Ye Yang City is really big..." Han Li acted surprised, as if he had just arrived.
"Hehe, first time here, eh? While it's still light, hurry to the market ahead and rent a beast-drawn carriage. At your pace, you'll never reach the Maha District." The gaunt old man said with a slight smile.
Hearing this, Han Li was not in a hurry to leave, and said, "Just now, I heard you talking, and I'm really confused. Isn't the Holy Lord in power now?"
"Where did you come from, some remote backwater? Is your information so outdated? The Holy Lord reclused himself five hundred years ago. The Third Prince is the regent now." The middle-aged man was stunned and sneered.
"I see. But wasn't the First Prince in power before?" Han Li first acted enlightened, then frowned and asked doubtfully.
"The First Prince has been missing for over a thousand years. Some say he's in seclusion, some say he's traveling, some say he's been imprisoned by the Holy Lord. Anyway, there are all sorts of rumors." The gaunt old man laughed.
"Thank you."
Han Li cupped his fist and thanked him, then turned and walked along the main street towards the market.
...
Several days later, at night.
In the North Garden of the Imperial City, amidst a series of magnificent palaces, the lights were brightly lit, and squads of demon soldiers patrolled with halberds, the guards were heavily armed.
In the shadows of the palace walls, a figure crouched low, moving rapidly between the many palace buildings. He was dressed in black, looking like an ordinary demon youth, none other than Han Li.
At this moment, the aura on his body was almost completely suppressed. His movements depended entirely on his outstanding physical strength, without any fluctuation of spiritual power, so he naturally did not attract the attention of the patrolling soldiers.
In his eyes, the magic circles hidden everywhere in the palace walls were as clear as fire, and he did not trigger a single one while moving rapidly.
Before long, his figure arrived outside a beautiful, independent palace.
Before he approached the palace gate, Han Li's nose twitched slightly, and he smelled a strong aroma of medicinal herbs. Looking at the entire hall, he noticed that all the surrounding windows were tightly closed, and faint mist was rising from the roof.
After examining it for a moment, he raised his hand and pressed it against a restriction on the palace gate. A silver electric light suddenly flashed in his palm, and a spiderweb-like electric arc immediately spread out, covering the entire door.
The runes hidden on the door were almost instantly destroyed, and the original restriction completely lost its effect.
Han Li gently pushed the palace gate open, his figure flashed, and he entered the hall.
As soon as his figure appeared, before he could see the situation in front of him, he suddenly heard a loud whooshing sound by his ears.
He had expected this, and his figure suddenly ducked. He thrust his fists forward, and two clusters of starlight lit up at the ends of his fists, instantly smashing into the two people who were attacking him at close range.
Two muffled thuds were heard.
The two figures flew backwards from in front of Han Li, slamming heavily against two pillars, and collapsing in a heap.
Han Li did not want to burst out and kill people, so he struck the two punches with great precision, hitting the two key acupoints on those two, causing their magic energy to stagnate and they fell into unconsciousness.
"Since you don't kill people, you must be here to ask for something..." Accompanied by the sound of splashing water, a hoarse voice sounded.
Han Li did not immediately speak, but looked ahead.
In the center of the palace, there was a well-like pool, filled with a pool of black liquid. It looked somewhat viscous and was slowly churning, and the layers of mist were emanating from it.
In the pool, a bloated figure was slowly standing up, covered in a wide black cloak, obscuring his head and body, making it impossible to see his face.
"Is the fellow Daoist named Li?" Seeing that Han Li did not speak, the person continued to ask.
His bloated body slowly walked out of the pool, and flames seemed to rise from his body, sending out rolling heat waves that quickly dried the black cloak.
Hearing this, Han Li felt a slight surprise and asked without committing himself, "Are you the High Priest?"
"Why? Has Fellow Daoist Li searched so hard to find me, yet he can't even determine if I'm the person he's looking for?" The person asked again.
"The High Priest lives in seclusion and his whereabouts are always secretive. Today's defenses should not be so lax, so I'm a bit unsure." Han Li frowned slightly and said.
"Being in the middle of many palaces, with two early Taiyi stage cultivators acting as bodyguards, isn't that heavily guarded? Hehe, I think Fellow Daoist Li is just more skilled." The bloated man laughed.
"Time is short, I won't play games with you. Since you are the High Priest, you should know what I'm asking for, right?" Han Li asked with an unchanged expression.
"I knew it more than a thousand years ago, but unfortunately, I can't do what you're asking for." The High Priest sighed and said.
"Can't do it... If that's the case, then I can only take your head first, and then go see the real High Priest." Hearing this, Han Li sneered.
"It seems that Fellow Daoist still doesn't want to believe that I am the High Priest?" A hoarse voice sounded, sounding somewhat helpless.
"You are the High Priest, but you haven't even taken a look, how do you know you can't do it, can't save her?" Han Li asked in a deep voice.
"More than a thousand years ago, I cast a divination, and the hexagram showed that it was impossible." The High Priest sighed.
"Impossible, not impossible to do? Why does the High Priest say can't do it?" Han Li sneered.
"Knowing it's impossible and still doing it, is a great taboo." The High Priest shook his head and said.
"Now more than a thousand years have passed, the High Priest might as well cast another divination, perhaps it is possible now?" Han Li suppressed the fluctuations in his heart and asked again.
Hearing this, the High Priest paused slightly, then smiled again: "Since that's the case, I'll cast another divination. If it's still impossible, can Fellow Daoist Li not force things?"
Hearing this, Han Li did not commit himself.
Seeing this, the High Priest just shook his head slightly. He rubbed his palms together in front of him, and five coins appeared in his hand. He threw them casually, then suddenly stretched out his other palm, flat in the air, and caught the coins again.
The five coins were arranged in a plum blossom shape in his palm, with two or three facing up on each side.
The High Priest raised his hand and fiddled with the coins a little, then suddenly changed his expression, frowning and said: "Who exactly are you? Why is your fate so chaotic?"
"High Priest, you seem to have calculated something you shouldn't have?" Han Li's voice suddenly turned cold.
As soon as the words fell, the light around him flashed wildly, and nine Azure Bamboo Bee Cloud Swords whizzed out, cutting the surrounding space into pieces. The sword blades pointed directly at the High Priest from all directions.
Seeing this, the latter's eyes flashed with a strange look, as if he had suddenly thought of something, and his expression changed drastically. He asked, "Could it be that Fellow Daoist's surname is Han?"
"It seems that you are really determined to die..." Han Li said slowly, his expression unchanged.
"I think based on our position as members of the Reincarnation Temple, Fellow Daoist shouldn't do that, right?" Hearing this, the High Priest smiled hoarsely and said slowly.
With that, he slowly raised his arm, and a bloodless, pale hand reached out from his wide sleeve, holding a palm-sized circular token, engraved with the three characters "Reincarnation Token".
Seeing this, Han Li's eyes changed slightly, but he was also puzzled.
"Did you learn of my identity through the information in the Reincarnation Temple?" Han Li asked, without retracting his Azure Bamboo Bee Cloud Swords.
"That's not important... What's important is that what you're asking for can be done today." The High Priest shook his head and said slowly.
Hearing this, Han Li waved his hand without saying a word, and a silver light gate appeared out of thin air. Inside the gate, a scene of a room inside a small building appeared.
"This... Could it be the legendary Cave Heaven Treasure?" The High Priest asked in surprise.
"That's right, High Priest, please wait..." Han Li nodded and said.
With that, he stepped into the building, picked up Ti Hun, who was lying horizontally, and turned around to return to the hall.
