Chapter 3: BLAST FROM THE PAST

Chapter 3: BLAST FROM THE PAST

AH, I’m Bae Wonyoung.

Endless’ wasn’t a mere romance novel— it was Wonyoung’s life story.

His ’past life,’ to be precise.

When Wonyoung opened his eyes, he was surprised at how calm he was even after remembering everything.

I guess this is my real personality— not giving a fuck about anything because I’m tired.

In his past life, he had lived in poverty.

He lost his parents early, so he had to live with his paternal uncle and his family.

Long story short, the only thing his relatives provided for him was a small room in a shabby house.

The moment he started working part-time jobs, he became their cash cow.

I even had to feed my younger cousin, so I wasn’t able to save any money for myself.

If he weren’t smart and hardworking, he wouldn’t have bagged a full scholarship ride to Yeonhee University— one of the ’Big 3’ universities in the country.

It was worth it, though.

That was where I met Dujun Sunbae-nim, after all.

Thanks to Yun Dujun’s financial support, he was able to leave his so-called family.

Wonyoung suddenly remembered the conversation that he had with his sunbae after he ’ran away’ from home.

Yes, Yun Dujun really picked him up then.

"Now I don’t have a family, Sunbae-nim."

"Then should we get married?"

"Just because you’re physically attracted to me?"

"My family doesn’t want my child to be born out of wedlock, so they suggested that we get married temporarily."

"Oh."

"We can divorce later, Hoobae-nim. Of course, you’ll get alimony after that."

"Ah, right." Wonyoung raised his left hand and stared at his ring finger. "Dujun Sunbae-nim and I got married in the past. He never gave me a wedding ring, though. I guess he was just really waiting for our divorce then."

Speaking of divorce...

"When are we going to divorce then, Sunbae-nim?"

"Once my career as an actor takes off."

Yes, Yun Dujun was an aspiring actor back then.

And so was Wonyoung.

In fact, the two of them had a sunbae-hoobae relationship not only because they attended the same university— but also because they were in the same Theatre Club at the time.

Ah, dammit.

The memories that kept flooding into Wonyoung’s mind were giving him a headache.

I feel like my brain is about to explode from information overload.

He felt like he had a very long dream while ’watching’ the memories of his ’past life,’ that both felt familiar and distant to him, return.

But, judging by the time, it hadn’t even been five minutes since he fainted.

And, yet, his head was now filled with the memories of his ’past life.’

He was 100% sure that he was really the Bae Wonyoung in the novel Endless.

No, I’m not crazy. And this isn’t the case of me getting attached to a book character. Plus, I’m not creative enough to come up with Bae Wonyoung’s memories from childhood up to his confrontation with Lee Heeju.

However, after being aware of the truth, Wonyoung’s memories of the ’book’ that he had just read started fading from his memory.

Afraid that he might end up forgetting everything, he grabbed Endless again.

He wanted to reread it from the start.

But...

"What the fuck?" Wonyoung was in disbelief while flipping the pages of the book. "Why are all the pages blank now?!"

He suddenly got goosebumps.

This can’t be happening.

He grabbed his phone and called Han Myung again.

Fortunately, his manager picked it up this time.

"Han Myung, can you call the screenwriter who sent the Chained to You script to us? Then ask them if I can meet the author of the original novel," Wonyoung said in a hurry. "Tell them that if they do us this favor, I’ll take An Baekya’s role."

***

LUCKILY, Author hanwoobeef agreed to meet Wonyoung.

It was Han Myung who reached out to the writer and set up that meeting.

Apparently, Author hanwoofbeef hasn’t shown their face to the public yet. So, to protect their privacy, we decided to meet at Mountain Tiger Publishing— the writer’s company.

He got there thirty minutes earlier than scheduled, though.

I’m too nervous to stay at home.

Hence, Wonyoung ended up parking his car in front of the building.

Thankfully, it was a parking space.

The building was also a bit isolated from the residential area, so the streets were practically empty with a few cars passing by occasionally.

He wasn’t afraid of being recognized since it was dark.

It’s almost 7PM now, after all.

He was lucky the company agreed to let him meet Author hanwoobeef on such short notice— during past working hours, at that.

Anyway...

It was quiet there, but there was a storm in Wonyoung’s head.

Imagine being the main character of a toxic BL novel who somehow transmigrated to the real world— and then you found out that your readers ’ship’ you with your abuser.

Awful, right?

Thankfully, that didn’t happen to him.

But that could happen to An Baekya— the main character of an omegaverse novel titled ’Chained to You’— if the poor kid were in his shoes instead.

And that poor Omega is my son-in-law...

Wonyoung still couldn’t believe that he failed as a parent in his ’past life.’

According to Endless, Bae Wonyoung killed himself.

But I don’t remember committing suicide.

Wonyoung gently bumped his forehead on the steering wheel of his car, already stressed out when the memories of his past life started playing in his head like a tragic movie once again.

However, he still couldn’t remember ending his life.

The scary part?

It wasn’t the only thing that he was starting to forget.

How was my relationship with Dujun Sunbae-nim? What happened after I gave birth to Yun Yuhyun? When did Lee Heeju start being a part of our lives?

Wonyoung had so many thoughts in his head.

It was noisy inside his mind.

But that noise was soon swallowed by something louder.

HOOONK!

What was that?

Wonyoung lifted his head, but he quickly squinted his eyes when a blinding light hit his face.

The bright lights were coming from a semi-truck...

... and that semi-truck was about to hit his car at a very alarming rate.

In short, he didn’t have time to move out of its way.

For real?

That was how Wonyoung would die?

***

NO, Wonyoung didn’t die.

He opened his eyes, taking in a sharp breath.

Aw, it hurts.

Wonyoung wanted to cover his eyes with his hands because the ceiling lights almost blinded him. But he couldn’t move a muscle.

I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck.

Moreover, he also felt like he had almost drowned, and then someone pulled him out of the water just before he took what could have been his last breath.

My body feels heavy...

"Bae Wonyoung-nim?"

Hmm?

It took time before Wonyoung was able to open his eyes again.

Thankfully, the person whose face was hovering above him blocked the blinding lights.

Wait, that man...

Han Myung?

The man had the face of his manager-slash-friend.

But the Han Myung standing in front of him now was wearing a neat black suit and a Bluetooth earpiece in one ear, like a bodyguard...

... oh.

I remember now.

This Han Myung was the Han Myung that Yun Dujun assigned as Bae Wonyoung’s bodyguard-slash-butler.

Wait!

If that’s the case, then...

"I’m glad you finally woke up, Bae Won young-nim," Han Myung said in a cracked voice, tears welling up in his eyes. "You’ve been in a coma after giving birth to Young Master Yuhyun, sir."

EXCUSE ME?

That confirmed it, then.

Wonyoung had really returned inside the novel Endless as Bae Wonyoung!

But what about my apartment, my building, and my fat bank account?!
