Chapter 33: HATE AT FIRST SIGHT
WONYOUNG was woken up not by his alarm clock, but by the loud ringing of his phone.
When he grabbed his phone and checked who the hell was calling him so early in the morning, the sleepiness suddenly left his body.
This sunbae-nim doesn’t really care about time, huh?
Yun Dujun would either call so early in the morning or so late at night.
Despite Wonyoung’s inner complaint, he still answered the call.
"Yes, Sunbae-nim?"
"What would you like for breakfast? Ask the kid, too."
"Sunbae-nim, we’re at a hotel. There’s a breakfast buffet here, or we can just order room service. So, why would you ask..." Wonyoung trailed off, and then he got up abruptly when the realization hit him. "Sunbae-nim is dropping by?"
"Yes, and I’m with Yun Yuhyun."
"Are you crazy, Sunbae-nim?!"
"Did you just yell at me, Hoobae-nim?"
Wonyoung took a deep breath before repeating his question in a smaller voice. "Are you crazy, Sunbae-nim?"
"No, I’m not. Thank you for asking."
This jerk really had time for sarcasm...
"Sunbae-nim, have you told Yun Yuhyun about An Baekya?"
"Not yet. I’m bringing our son there so that you can help me explain the situation to him."
Haaah.
This crazy Alpha...
"Sunbae-nim, why are you in a hurry?" Wonyoung asked while pinching the bridge of his nose. "I told you we’re coming back to Seoul soon."
"Well, I’m bored."
"What?"
"I’m unemployed at the moment, so let’s do this now."
"Sunbae-nim—"
"Bae Wonyoung, you need legal documents to prove that you are now An Baekya’s foster parent. Otherwise, how will you convince his teachers that you’re telling the truth?"
Oh, right.
Wonyoung almost forgot about that part!
It wasn’t like An Baekya’s teachers would believe him just because he said he was the child’s new foster parent.
"I have your foster care license and placement documents with me, Hoobae-nim."
Tsk.
No, Yun Dujun didn’t tell Wonyoung that the Alpha got them their foster care license.
But I should have expected that when Sunbae-nim said he had already taken care of everything. Money really talks, huh?
Plus, Yun Dujun knew everything about Wonyoung anyway.
Sunbae-nim has access to my legal documents because he is my husband. He knows everything from my social security number to my bank account. Even my medical history. After all, they ran several tests on me to make sure I was fit and healthy enough to carry his baby.
Having said that, it was still annoying.
"Hoobae-nim, you’re spacing out again, aren’t you?"
"I want ssiat hotteok, Sunbae-nim."
Wonyoung was talking about one of Busan’s most famous street foods.
Ssiat hotteok was actually a twist on the traditional Korean hotteok, which was a sweet, fried pancake usually filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. Busan’s version was special because, after frying the pancake, it was sliced open and stuffed with a generous amount of seeds like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds— giving it a nutty and crunchy texture.
Just thinking about it is already making me drool.
"I’m sure An Baekya would also love some, so buy a lot, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, and then he decided to make Yun Dujun’s life a little hard. "But I only want ssiat hotteok from a specific, famous food stall."
Good luck waiting for at least an hour, Sunbae-nim.
Well, Wonyoung was pretty sure that Yun Dujun would just ask his bodyguard to line up for him.
But, at least, it buys us time.
***
WHEN Wonyoung looked for An Baekya, he found the child sitting on the sofa in the living room while watching an old drama on navilleTV (aka nTV)— a video streaming platform which served a similar function to Y*utube.
nTV was owned by Naville Corporation.
Yes, the company that Dujun Sunbae-nim’s family owns.
"Are you a fan of that show, An Baekya?"
"Good morning, Uncle Wonyoungie," An Baekya greeted Wonyoung politely before answering his question. "No, I’m not a fan of this show. I’m just watching this drama because this is where Park Soojung and Park Soojin debuted as child actors."
"Ah, the twins?" Wonyoung said, sitting down on the sofa next to An Baekya. "As far as I remember, only Park Soojung pursued being a celebrity. I don’t recall his exact role in your ’novel,’ though. I skipped a lot of stuff. But I remember him being an A-list actor."
"Yun Yuhyun beat him to a pulp in the previous ’timeline,’ Uncle."
Wonyoung almost choked on his saliva.
"Park Soojung and I became close friends, and that made Yun Yuhyun jealous. When Park Soojung tried to pay off my debts, Yun Yuhyun almost killed him."
"As Yun Yuhyun’s mother, I apologize on behalf of my son."
"You don’t have to apologize on behalf of that crazy bastard, Uncle."
Aigoo.
This kid just called my son a ’crazy bastard’ in front of me without hesitation...
Wonyoung couldn’t defend Yun Yuhyun, though.
The Yun Yuhyun from the novel was truly a crazy bastard, after all.
And now I’m even more worried.
"Baekya?"
"Yes, Uncle?"
"Dujun Sunbae-nim is on his way here," Wonyoung said nervously. "And he’s with Yun Yuhyun."
"Ah, I see."
"Will that be okay, Baekya? You’re going to meet your abuser."
"Yun Yuhyun is just a baby now, so I don’t think he can scare me now."
Pfft.
A five-year-old is a child, not a baby. But I understand An Baekya. He has the mind of an adult. So, Yun Yuhyun is nothing but a harmless baby to him now.
"That’s a relief, then."
"Uncle Wonyoungie, you don’t have to worry about me too much," An Baekya said, sighing while shaking his head. "I’m actually older than you mentally."
Wonyoung just laughed it off. "Sure, kid, sure."
Yeah, I’m bad at math.
***
AH, it smells good.
Wonyoung was actually conflicted.
He got distracted by the bag of ssiat hotteok that Yun Dunjun handed to him as soon as the Alpha set foot in the penthouse suite.
I want to eat them so bad.
But Wonyoung couldn’t take his eyes off Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya.
The two kids were having a stare-down as if they were sizing each other up.
Aigoo.
Yun Yuhyun and An Baekya were the same age, but their size difference was already crazy.
My son looks like he’s already in elementary school, while my future son-in-law is smaller than an average five-year-old.
It was definitely because An Baekya was malnourished.
I have to feed An Baekya well.
"Hoobae-nim, are you having fun?"
Wonyoung lifted his head and was a bit surprised when he realized how close Yun Dujun was standing in front of him. "You smell good, Sunbae-nim."
You’re so close, Sunbae-nim.
Yun Dujun smiled faintly. "Thank you, Hoobae-nim."
Shit.
Wonyoung only realized that he had switched his inner thoughts and dialogue when Yun Dujun thanked him for the compliment.
I meant to say that he’s standing so close— not reveal that I still find his scent addictive!
How embarrassing.
"You also smell good, Hoobae-nim."
Okay, that may or may not have made Wonyoung’s heart skip a beat.
In my defense, even if you’re not romantically attracted to Dujun Sunbae-nim, you’ll still blush when someone as handsome as him compliments you!
It didn’t help that Yun Dujun’s sexy voice was as addictive as his pheromones.
"Daddy, who is this baby?"
Wonyoung was grateful for the distraction.
And it was funny to hear Yun Yuhyun call An Baekya a ’baby.’
My son probably thinks An Baekya is younger than him because An Baekya is small.
"I’m not a baby," An Baekya said calmly, and then he extended his hand to Yun Yuhyun. "My name is An Baekya."
Yun Yuhyun just looked at An Baekya’s hand with a disgusted look on his face.
Aigoo.
"Yuhyun-ah, don’t be rude," Yun Dujun scolded his son coldly. "Your new friend introduced himself like a proper gentleman. So, you should do the same."
"Yes, Daddy," Yun Yuhyun answered his Alpha father politely, pouting. But the child still grabbed An Baekya’s hand and shook it. "My name is Yun Yuhyun—"
"BLERGH!"
Wonyoung gasped when An Baekya suddenly threw up, accidentally spilling the vomit on both his and Yun Yuhyun’s hands.
And that was when shit hit the fan.
At this rate, I can’t see the love line between An Baekya and Yun Yuhyun anymore...
