Chapter 22: THE MAIN CHARACTER
[AN BAEKYA used to be a famous child actor.
But it wasn’t a pleasant memory for him.
When he was in kindergarten, his maternal aunt and her husband sold him to a rich relative. This rich relative was a middle-aged woman who didn’t have a husband but wanted to raise a child.
But that was a lie.
The rich relative in question just saw the potential in An Baekya to be her cash cow.
After all, the child had the face and the talent of a future A-list actor.
In short, An Baekya was already an acting genius at such a tender age.
That ahjumma saw that.
It helped that the rich relative worked in the entertainment industry. Therefore, it was easy for her to have access to auditions for child actors.
That was how An Baekya started his career.
In just one year after his acting debut, he starred in a blockbuster movie that had achieved over 10 million viewers, earning him the title of the youngest 10-million actor in the country.
More acting projects and brand deals followed suit.
That success lasted for a few years until An Baekya’s young body collapsed due to extreme fatigue.
Yes, the child was severely overworked.
His fans cursed his company until the bosses let him take an indefinite hiatus. Hence, for quite a while, An Baekya stepped out of the limelight to recuperate. However, during that long break, a rival child actor rose to fame, making people forget about An Baekya.
When the rich relative realized that she couldn’t exploit the child anymore, she fled...
... with all the money that An Baekya had worked hard for.
And the worst part?
The rich relative left the kid a mountain of debt from scamming people using An Baekya’s name.]
That was how the Chained to You novel summarized the backstory of the main character.
Wonyoung suddenly remembered that important piece of information while running towards the scumbag who was trying to kidnap(?) An Baekya.
The child should still be at school, so what else could it be but kidnapping?
"Let go of the kid, you bastard!"
The kidnapper(?) stopped in his tracks, still holding onto An Baekya tightly, while giving Wonyoung a weird look. "Who the hell are you?"
"I should be the one asking you that," the kidnapper(?) said, scoffing. "What do you care about my business? This kid is my nephew!"
Oh.
So, this must be the husband of An Baekya’s maternal aunt.
And An Baekya’s maternal aunt is his legal guardian.
Not for long, though.
"Kid, is this ahjussi really your uncle?" Wonyoung asked, playing dumb. "I’m here if you need help."
"It’s true that he’s my uncle, but I don’t want to go with him!" An Baekya said, yelling desperately, before looking over his shoulder. "Please help me, Hyung-nim..."
The child trailed off as soon as he met Wonyoung’s eyes.
And then An Baekya suddenly went pale?
Hmm?
What’s wrong?
Wonyoung wanted to ask if An Baekya was hurt anywhere, but the damned ahjussi suddenly kicked him in the stomach.
He didn’t expect the attack, so he fell on his butt.
And, shit, the kick hurt like hell.
That damned ahjussi is a hard kicker!
Not only did Wonyoung fall to the ground because of the kick— he also threw up and gasped for air, unable to get up.
Argh.
This wasn’t the first time he got kicked in the gut, but this was the first time he got this helpless.
Ah, dammit.
This was one of the disadvantages of an Omega who was about to get their heat cycle.
We get physically weaker when we’re about to go in heat...
"Client-nim!"
It was Mr. Seo.
The private detective immediately helped Wonyoung get up.
"Should I bring you to the hospital?" Mr. Seo asked worriedly. "You look pale."
Wonyoung shook his head and was about to say something when...
"YOU FUCKING BRAT!"
Oh.
Wonyoung was relieved to see that the damned ahjussi had already put down An Baekya, but he got upset when that damned animal began hitting the child.
An Baekya used his arms to block the scumbag’s punches.
Yes, that big guy was throwing hands at a small child!
"Sir, please take a video of that bastard hitting An Baekya."
After saying that to Mr. Seo, Wonyoung gathered the remaining strength in his body before running towards An Baekya.
Yes, his stomach still felt upset after the kick.
And, yes, his legs were still wobbling a little.
But he forced himself to run.
I need to save my future son-in-law!
"Stop hitting the child, you piece of scum!"
When the scumbag turned around, Wonyoung immediately kicked him between his legs.
And, yes, he made sure to kick hard to ’crack’ the ’eggs.’
He knew he succeeded when the bastard let out a blood-curdling scream while jumping up and down away from them.
Heh.
Serves you right.
"An Baekya," Wonyoung said urgently while extending his hand to the child. Yes, he called An Baekya by his name, so the kid looked surprised. But he could just lie about how he knew his name later. For now, they had to get out of there. "Come with me— I’ll protect you."
To be honest, it was a gamble.
An Baekya, despite being only five years old, had already suffered too much from the bad adults around him.
So, he wouldn’t be surprised if the kid rejected his hand.
Thankfully, that didn’t happen.
An Baekya nodded shyly, and then he started to reach out to Wonyoung’s hand...
... but then the child’s gaze when past him, and then he let out a sharp breath.
"Watch out, Father-in-law!"
Wait, what?
To say that Wonyoung was shocked to hear An Baekya call him ’Father-in-law’ would be an understatement.
Did I hear it right?
But, unfortunately, he didn’t get to ask the kid because something hard hit him on the back of his head. He probably got hit pretty hard because he fell to the ground almost immediately— the back of his head throbbing, his vision now blurry.
Before everything went blank, Wonyoung heard An Baekya curse his uncle under his breath.
"That motherfucker has a death wish, huh?"
Aigoo.
Do five-year-old kids curse like a sailor these days?
