Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Chantie’s Upset
"If I’m defenseless, then what about you? You’ve already used your last card against him. He won’t hesitate next time."
"You don’t get it. Trenton’s not going to kill me!" she argued, though deep down she knew she was just trying to convince herself. Sooner or later, Trenton would want her dead. Just... not yet.
Daniel turned away from her with a hard expression. "I’ve made my decision."
Chantelle let out a tired sigh. "Fine. I’ll take you to Russell’s lab tomorrow. He has medicine there." She tried to compromise with him.
"No," he mumbled while sulking.
"What do you want then? Do you really want to die that badly?" She sat up, staring at him in disbelief.
"Why not? My wife doesn’t care about me anyway. Might as well die." He moved a little closer to her.
Chantelle couldn’t help laughing. He was acting like a child.
Who would’ve thought the Demon King could be this cute?
"I see. So, you really don’t want to live anymore?"
She poked his shoulder as her voice carried a hint of laughter.
His ears turned red, but he stayed stubborn. "Why ask if you don’t care?"
"I care." She playfully grabbed his ear.
However, he suddenly spun around and pulled her into his arms.
"You do?" he asked, grinning like a child.
She laughed softly and nodded. "The Wilson Group of Companies is mine now. If something happens to you, who’s going to give me my spending money?"
Daniel’s smile quickly disappeared.
She went on, "I came back to get revenge on you, remember? My plan was to make you fall for me, then get you to hand over all your assets. After that, I’d toss you aside. You can’t die yet. Not until I’m done."
"What do you mean you’re not done? I’m pretty sure I’ve paid that debt," Daniel said, hearing the playful tone in her voice. She just smiled and tapped her nose, clearly remembering the conversation he had with Trenton.
He had already given her everything... even been ready to die for her. And now she was saying she wasn’t finished yet?
How heartless.
"Are you going to sleep now? I’m tired." She looked away, flustered, though her eyes still showed affection.
Daniel leaned closer and gave her a quick kiss before settling back into his place.
"You’re coming with me to Russell’s lab tomorrow. Stop making things difficult." She hated seeing him treat his life like it didn’t matter.
"You’re coming with me too," he said firmly, giving his own condition.
She was at a loss for words. "We’re talking about your life, and you’re using it to threaten me."
"That’s because you’re my lover," he said simply.
Her heart skipped a beat. She turned away, not knowing what to say.
The next morning, Chantelle thought she’d wake up in Daniel’s arms like she used to in Easthan. But when she opened her eyes, the bed beside her was empty.
She sat up confidently.
The spot where Daniel had slept was cold. But it was only seven in the morning.
Why was he woke up so early?
She stepped out onto the balcony and saw Daniel in the yard, playing with their three children.
She felt relieved and called Thea.
"You finally remembered me, Chantie! Do you know how worried I’ve been? Philip told me everything!" Thea scolded her right away.
Chantelle felt warmth spread in her chest.
"I’m sorry. I’ve been busy and didn’t have time to call. Please forgive me, my lady. This servant failed to report."
"What can I do but forgive you? Now, tell me. What do you need from me?"
"Daniel’s not doing well. I want him to stay at your Grandpa’s place to recover when he gets back to Easthan."
"That’s no problem. The place is peaceful," Thea replied without thinking twice. Then, she paused, sensing something. "Wait... did you and Daniel make up?"
Chantelle went quiet. When she finally spoke, her voice trembled. "I think I’m still in love with him."
She had thought her hatred was stronger than her love. She believed she could never forgive him. But deep down, that hatred came from loving him too much.
She had never stopped loving him.
"That’s a good thing. Why are you crying?" Thea asked.
"I don’t know. I’m scared. I feel like I shouldn’t love him this much," Chantelle said softly, shaking her head. His teasing made her realize she might still have feelings for him.
That realization hit her hard, filling her with fear.
She was terrified that what happened six years ago might happen all over again.
"I think Mr. Wilson really loves you this time, Chantie. He’s ready to die for you. What else could that be, if not love?" Thea said gently. She understood why Chantelle was so scared. Daniel had hurt her before. It was normal for her to feel unsure.
"He’s Mr. Wilson. He’s always been someone who valued loyalty. Didn’t he do the same thing for Kate?" Just thinking about it made Chantelle’s heart ache.
She didn’t want to admit she still loved him. She couldn’t let herself fall for him again. She couldn’t keep walking down this road.
She didn’t want to feel that kind of pain again.
"What are you planning to do then?" Thea asked carefully. She was afraid Chantelle might shut herself away again... and take her children with her.
She couldn’t even imagine what Daniel might do.
"I don’t know. Maybe I just need space. If I stay away from him, maybe these feelings will fade."
"Chantie, you’ve already been away from him for six years. Did that help you forget him?" Thea’s words awaken her emotions.
Thea tried to encourage her. "Don’t overthink it. You’re not the same person you were back then. Even if you still love him, and even if he leaves you again, would you let him ruin you like he did before? Believe in yourself."
"I’m scared I won’t be able to fight back." Just thinking about becoming that woman who loved Daniel too much made her feel sick.
"You will fight. Did you forget you have three kids? You’re not going to lose yourself over a man again, are you?"
Thea saw Chantelle clearly, even when she couldn’t see herself. From where Thea stood, it was obvious Daniel was already in Chantelle’s hands. She had the upper hand. There was nothing to fear.
Thinking about her children calmed her. Thea was right. She wasn’t the woman she used to be. Now, she was a mother. Her children depended on her.
"You’ve already gotten rid of Trenton, Chantie. You should be living your life the way you want. Why are you overthinking everything?" Thea asked, while secretly sending a message to Philip on another device.
"Chantie’s upset? I’ll send Mr. Wilson to her!"
Philip quickly replied, "Got it!"
