Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Daniel, Be Careful!
Chantelle saw Daniel standing outside the washroom. But Daniel looked stunned when he saw the middle-aged woman with her daughter.
In that moment, Chantelle realized why Trenton had planted the bomb on the woman. Daniel knew her.
A bad feeling crept over Chantelle. She lost focus for a moment and accidentally bumped into a waiter.
Just then, she noticed the woman reaching into her clothes.
Chantelle’s heart skipped a beat.
"The target knows about the bomb," Chantelle whispered to Daniel, quickly apologizing to the waiter she had bumped into.
The waiter followed Daniel’s eyes and noticed he was staring at the woman’s waist. Without a word, the waiter turned and walked away, likely going to report what he saw.
Chantelle gave Daniel a quick glance, then turned and followed the waiter.
Daniel hadn’t seen Chantelle bump into the waiter. His eyes were focused on the girl walking beside the middle-aged woman.
People walked past him, but he didn’t look up. He seemed completely lost in thought.
Chantelle was confused. She didn’t recognize the girl or the woman. She had never seen them at the Wilson residence before.
Who are they?
But there was no time to figure it out. She still had to disable the bomb inside the restaurant.
Luckily, Daniel hadn’t approached the woman or the girl earlier. If he had, they might’ve been exposed.
By twelve-thirty, dark clouds had gathered in the sky. It looked like rain was coming. The lights in the restaurant flickered on.
Chantelle went into the kitchen and turned on all the high-power appliances. A moment later, the power went out.
She quickly put on her night-vision glasses and saw the bomb in the middle of the restaurant. Without wasting time, she started dismantling it.
Meanwhile, Daniel returned to the room. Calvin walked in with Alexander.
"Well, well. Mr. Wilson keeps his word," the middle-aged man said as he placed a bottle of medicine and a pair of keys on the table.
Calvin handed the medicine to Alexander. After a quick look, Alexander gave a nod.
It was the special remedy Daniel had been searching for Chantelle.
"The weapons are in the warehouse. These are the keys. Send your men to collect them," the middle-aged man said.
Daniel swiftly glanced at Calvin and gestured him to go.
Without a word, Calvin took the keys and left with a few men.
Moments later, gunshots echoed from downstairs.
The middle-aged man gave Daniel a fierce glare, then pulled out a gun and aimed it at his head. But before he could fire, Daniel kicked him hard.
Then, a group of men burst into the room. They didn’t go after Daniel. Instead, they grabbed Alexander and ran away. Only two stayed behind at the door and started shooting at Daniel.
Daniel dove under the table. Before he could fire back, Chantelle shot them dead.
"Chantelle!" Daniel’s eyes lit up. He was relieved to see her safe. He quickly stood and left the room with her.
"I’ve dismantled the bomb in the restaurant," Chantelle said, huffing and puffing. "And I asked Calvin to take the woman away."
Trenton’s men kept chasing after Chantelle and Daniel. The two fought back, shooting them down one by one until almost all of them were gone.
"Daniel!" a girl suddenly shouted.
Daniel turned his head, distracted. He missed the man behind Chantelle.
A bullet flew past her ear, grazing her face and leaving a deep cut. For a moment, Chantelle thought she was going to die. She quickly turned around and shot the man who fired at her.
But Daniel didn’t come to her. Instead, he ran after the girl being taken away by Trenton’s men.
Somehow, Chantelle’s aim had gotten sharper. Every shot she fired against Trenton’s men was decisive, taking them down one by one.
She glanced over at Daniel. He had already saved the girl and was holding her in his arms.
"Go back to the car and dismantle the bomb! Leave this to me!" Daniel shouted through the earpiece.
Chantelle didn’t look back at him; instead, she answered calmly, "We have bomb experts in the car. You must retreat first. I’ll handle things here."
"But I don’t trust them..."
"What? You don’t trust the experts, but you trust me? Do you want me to die in the explosion too?"
"No, that’s not what I meant."
"Daniel, be careful! Go to the right, that’s the exit!" the girl shouted. Chantelle could hear her clearly through the earpiece.
Daniel and the girl were close to the exit. Chantelle didn’t hold back and kept firing harder.
But Trenton’s men kept coming, and she was left fighting them alone.
Thankfully, Calvin showed up with his men, and they were all well-trained. Trenton’s men were utterly trapped and quickly started to retreat.
"Take them down and get out of here as fast as you can," Chantelle ordered.
She was worried Trenton might have more traps, so she stayed behind and fought alongside her team until the end.
When they had nearly defeated all of Trenton’s men, Chantelle called Daniel. "Have you made it to the base? How are the kids?"
Earlier, she and Daniel had agreed that whoever left the restaurant first would return to the base.
But Daniel didn’t answer. The line stayed silent for a long time.
"Don’t worry. I have everything in the base under control. The kids will be fine."
Chantelle’s heart sank. She ripped off her earphones and ordered everyone to retreat immediately. She had to get back to her children.
On the way back, her eyes turned red. Tears began to fill her eyes.
"Ms. Chantelle..." Calvin looked at her, hesitating if he should say anything.
"What is it? Did something happen to Kane and the kids at the base?" she asked, panic in her voice.
"Kane was worried about Daniel, so he turned on Daniel’s GPS to check his location. But Trenton’s men traced it and found the base."
"Why didn’t you tell me earlier?" Chantelle slammed the pedal and sped up.
What is Daniel thinking? Trenton’s headed to the base now. How could he say everything is under control?
