Chapter 301: The King Who Can’t Resist His Queen
What if something happened to her, and it wasn’t just Leofric’s test?
"I don’t think you need to worry about that anymore, husband." Primrose pulled the towel aside just enough to see Edmund’s face. "If no one could save me ... then I think I could save myself."
The first time she used her mind-control ability, it might have seemed like a coincidence. But when it happened a second, a third, and even more times afterward, Primrose could no longer call it an accident.
"Sir Leofric said that I already have a way to control my ability, even if I’m not an expert yet," Primrose said calmly. "I still need more time to practice, but ... I know I’ll be fine."
Leofric even told her that she could use her ability whenever she felt a strong emotion in her heart, and since Primrose was naturally dramatic, nurturing strong emotions wasn’t exactly a difficult thing for her.
"Besides, the palace’s security is already very strong." Primrose continued when Edmund stayed silent. "If Sir Leofric hadn’t helped that intruder sneak inside, then I don’t think he would’ve had the chance to get in at all."
Based on what the mysterious man said in his mind, it seemed clear that Leofric had opened the way for him. That was proof enough that the palace’s defenses weren’t easy to break without betrayal from within.
"But I think I should still strengthen the palace defense," Edmund finally said. "If there are traitors inside, then this palace won’t ever be safe. Maybe ... I really should assign you more personal guards."
Primrose’s hand moved from his half-dried hair to his face. Droplets of water rolled down his skin, making it softer and smoother, and she couldn’t help but caress him a little longer.
"Lady Solene wants to be my personal guard." Primrose locked her gaze on Edmund’s blue eyes. "Don’t you think she’s capable enough to protect me?"
Edmund swallowed hard as Primrose leaned closer, closing the last bit of distance between them. "Lady Solene is more than capable of protecting you, but ... it’s been a long time since she officially served in the military."
Even though Edmund knew Solene had fought in Moonshadow, he still doubted whether she could match the royal guards’ combat skills now.
"That’s why Lady Solene wants to take the royal guard’s test again." Primrose shifted from standing to sitting on Edmund’s lap. "Would you mind giving her the chance to return to the military?"
Edmund’s hand, which had been on her waist, slid down to her thigh. His fingers slipped beneath her nightgown, touching her bare skin directly.
"I can give her a chance." Edmund sounded absentminded, as if he was simply repeating her words rather than answering.
His distracted behavior made Primrose chuckle softly.
It seemed her husband really had missed her that much. She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned forward until their lips almost touched. "There’s one more thing ... Sir Callen also wants to take the royal guard’s test. Could you ask Sir Leofric to train him? Maybe ... you can even tell Sir Leofric that he’ll be forgiven if he can make Sir Callen pass the test."
"Mhm." Edmund agreed without a second thought, not even bothering to weigh the idea.
But really, who could blame him? What kind of man could think straight when his wife was sitting on his lap, close enough for him to breathe in her sweet scent?
Maybe some men could, but Edmund certainly wasn’t one of them.
"Edmund." Primrose tilted her head and lowered her gaze to his lips. "Do you want me to kiss you?"
"Yes ...." His other hand slid behind her back, pulling her even closer until their lips were only a breath apart. "Please."
Primrose no longer had any intention of teasing him further. She finally gave him gentle kisses, something that could take her husband’s mind off all the bad things that had happened to them that day.
Honestly, Primrose regretted that they could only ever have a deep conversation for no longer than ten minutes before it turned into something sexual.
Maybe it was Edmund’s fault for being so easily tempted, or maybe it was her fault for thirsting over him too much.
Either way, neither of them could be blamed.
After all, they hadn’t been able to share any intimacy these past few days because Edmund had been too scared of hurting her legs.
Primrose’s legs still ached a little, but it wasn’t anything unbearable. After running in the library that afternoon, she felt she could already walk normally for short distances.
Even so, Edmund still hesitated to go further than kisses and hugs. When he finally pulled away, he asked softly, "How’s your body? Do your legs still hurt? Do you feel uncomfortable in this position?"
Primrose let out a soft sigh. Her cheeks turned red from kissing too long, though she still thought it hadn’t been nearly long enough. "I’m fine." She pressed their foreheads together and whispered, "Do you want to make love?"
His eyes widened in shock. He clearly hadn’t expected her to be so direct. Normally, he was the one to ask, and she was the one who decided, but tonight seemed different.
Instead of answering right away, Edmund asked back, "Are you sure you’ll be alright? Maybe ... we can wait until you’re completely healed."
Primrose couldn’t help but laugh. "Husband, I don’t think you’ll be able to sleep tonight if we don’t do it now." She shifted her hips slightly, feeling the hardness pressing against her lower body. "Besides, your little one already looks impatient."
"I’d be damned if he wasn’t eager with you sitting on top of me, my wife." Edmund swallowed hard, still looking uncertain, though his hand had already slipped further under her nightgown. His fingers traced along her thigh up to her waist, making Primrose shiver a little at the coldness of his touch.
"I also ... won’t be able to sleep peacefully if you reject me." Primrose kissed his lips twice before whispering in the softest voice, "You’re not the only one who feels excited."
Her hands trailed down, exploring his chest before sliding lower across his firm abdomen. "Have you been training a bit too hard lately?" She tilted her head, kissing his jaw and neck lightly, just enough to tease him until he growled. "Your muscles feel firmer than usual."
It wasn’t just flattery, she meant every word.
He had been patrolling nonstop these past few days and fighting off countless intruders day and night. No wonder his muscles had become firmer than usual, and his skin had grown tanner from spending so much time outdoors.
If Primrose were being honest, she would admit that Edmund looked even hotter and more handsome than usual or maybe... she was just too horny, and her brain was tricking her into thinking that way.
"Husband, are you tired? Is that why you’re rejecting me?" she asked softly, leaning her head on his shoulder and fluttering her lashes at him. "Or ... do you not find me attractive enough tonight?"
She had been eating too many cookies these past few days just to kill time, so she worried she might’ve put on a little weight.
"Nonsense." Edmund sighed, pausing before suddenly laying her down on the bed. "You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes." His hand rested by her head, caging her in so that the only thing she could see was his face. "I’m just worried about your health."
"I’m fine," Primrose reassured him. "My doctors didn’t forbid me from having sex. Besides ... I can just lie here in bed and let you do all the work tonight." She smiled sweetly and added, "If you don’t mind."
Edmund bent down, kissing her a few times before murmuring, "I don’t mind." His voice grew lower, warmer. "I don’t mind spoiling my wife tonight."
Primrose didn’t need to say anything more after that. His words were enough to prove that he was no longer rejecting her offering.
She pulled him closer, kissing him over and over again until she was breathless. Her heart pounded wildly in her chest, not out of shyness, but because she felt so loved by him that she thought her heart might burst.
The fresh scent of soap mixed with his natural pheromones, leaving her a little dizzy and addicted to him.
"You can tell me if I’m being too rough with you," Edmund murmured, slipping off her panties without breaking eye contact. "I promise I’ll be gentler."
Primrose held her breath for a few seconds. The way he looked at her and spoke to her was so gentle, so full of love, that she almost questioned her own sanity.
She almost laughed at herself because she swore no sane woman could stay standing if their husband treated them the way Edmund treated her.
"I don’t mind if you’re a little rough with me tonight," Primrose whispered as she slowly slipped off his shirt, which honestly looked like it didn’t belong to him in the first place. "Besides, I’m pretty sure Sir Dorne will want a day off tomorrow after someone knocked him out today."
