Chapter 38: Chapter 36: So You’re Human Too
When it comes to ghost hunting, they have their own methods.
Wan Yu, along with a group of junior disciples, was laying out talismans and drawing some strange patterns on the ground.
Then, he took out a red thread and buried it in the ground.
The group was highly skilled, preparing everything within ten minutes.
Next, they just had to wait for Mo Lin to take the bait.
Mo Lin had caught a nightmare-level ghost and was preparing to leave with Feng Mingyu.
They hadn’t even reached the parking spot.
Suddenly, a group of people in Daoist robes rushed out.
As they got closer, they recognized the faces of the group Mo Lin had encountered at the Qi Daoist Temple earlier.
Leading them was Wan Yu.
Wan Yu held a wooden sword in his right hand and talismans in his left, muttering something to himself.
It reminded Mo Lin of scenes from old Jiushu movies with Daoists.
"Make a move!"
Wan Yu snorted coldly.
All around, the junior disciples sprang into action.
The four formed a team.
The four held red threads in their right hands and formed a square, trapping Mo Lin inside.
Another four held talismans, which they laid on the ground.
Some others held red sand or something similar.
Mo Lin couldn’t understand what it was, but it looked a bit like lime.
They sprinkled this stuff on the ground.
The pattern was elaborate, but Mo Lin couldn’t comprehend it.
Then they formed a circle on the ground, trapping Mo Lin inside.
A chubby man held a basin of incense ash and poured it over Mo Lin.
Black ash rained down everywhere.
Mo Lin was speechless.
He had just caught a nightmare-level ghost and was in a good mood.
But now his good mood was ruined by this basin of incense ash.
"Are you crazy?" Mo Lin shouted angrily at the chubby man.
The chubby man’s pupils dilated, "You... you’re okay?"
He looked incredulous.
"This can’t be..." The chubby man waved a talisman in front of Mo Lin’s face.
"You’re not scared?" The man asked Mo Lin again, puzzled.
"Slap!"
Mo Lin backhanded the chubby man across the face and shouted, "Is your brain flooded? Are you crazy?"
The chubby man looked aggrieved, "Senior Brother, this ghost is too fierce... he even hit me..."
Wan Yu was also panicked.
He shook a bell, muttering something under his breath.
Mo Lin, already annoyed, felt even more irritated by the sound of Wan Yu’s bell.
This group was purely mental.
Mo Lin waved his hand and broke the red strings blocking his way.
Then he kicked away the incense ash on the ground.
As for the talismans, Mo Lin was even more annoyed and casually tore one up.
"Are you guys having a mental breakdown in the middle of the night?" Mo Lin charged up to Wan Yu and questioned angrily.
Wan Yu, sweating from his forehead, continued muttering without responding.
Seeing Wan Yu not answering, Mo Lin said again, "What kind of mumbo jumbo are you doing?"
Mo Lin was very close to Wan Yu.
When he felt Mo Lin’s breath, Wan Yu’s tightly furrowed brow gradually relaxed.
"Holy crap.. you’re actually a human."
At that moment, he inexplicably felt relieved.
No wonder the talismans and red strings, things used against ghosts, had no effect on Mo Lin.
He had even set up a ghost hunting array.
But it was useless against Mo Lin.
Wan Yu was almost scared to death.
"Scared me to death... I thought I ran into something tough..." Wan Yu continued to complain.
"So you’re human..."
Hearing this, Mo Lin felt something was off and retorted, "So you’re human too..."
"Sorry... I thought you were a ghost..." Wan Yu said softly.
"You’re the ghost, your whole family’s a ghost, is your brain flooded? Can’t tell people from ghosts?" Mo Lin scolded.
"Um... sorry..."
Wan Yu looked embarrassed. He considered himself good at distinguishing people from ghosts.
But how could a normal person have such thick ghost qi?
Mo Lin’s ghost qi was intense, and there was even a ghost inside his body.
But this didn’t change the fact that Mo Lin was human.
Today’s incident was a major mix-up.
"What? He’s human?" The chubby man was also incredulous.
What kind of person is this ridiculous?
What kind of person has ghost qi soaring to the sky?
He couldn’t believe it... really couldn’t believe it.
The chubby man moved forward, felt Mo Lin’s breath with his hand, then exclaimed.
"He’s really a damn human..."
The statement felt weird.. as if he was cursing.
The chubby man looked incredulous, circling Mo Lin like some rare treasure.
"How strange... really strange..."
How could a living person have such thick ghost qi?
And this kind of ghost qi can’t be acquired overnight.
It was clearly ghost qi honed over time.
"Have you seen enough?" Mo Lin looked disgusted.
This dead fatso, the way he looked at him was too strange, making Mo Lin feel sick.
The chubby man awkwardly smiled.
Wan Yu’s expression was unpleasant.
They made such a big fuss, even arranging a ghost hunting array.. only to end up catching nothing.
"Sorry.. it’s purely a misunderstanding." Wan Yu never imagined he could confuse a person with a ghost.
It was downright embarrassing.
"Pay up.." Mo Lin demanded angrily.
These idiots dumped incense ash all over him.
The worst part was the incense hadn’t been completely burned.
It left a few burn holes in Mo Lin’s clothes.
They had to pay up.
"Pay up.. I’ll pay right away..." Wan Yu hurriedly took two thousand units of Netherworld Currency out of his pocket.
"Brother, I’m really sorry; this is my token of apology."
"This whole thing was purely a misunderstanding; I really didn’t mean it, a real mix-up."
Wan Yu acted very humbly.
He really didn’t mean to cause trouble for Mo Lin.
He just genuinely intended to catch ghosts.
Ended up mistaking Mo Lin for a ghost.
Mo Lin accepted the two thousand units of Netherworld Currency.
"Don’t let it happen again."
"It won’t, it definitely won’t happen again," Wan Yu quickly added.
Wan Yu’s attitude was extremely humble, and Mo Lin had vented his anger and said his piece.
Plus, Wan Yu had paid, so Mo Lin didn’t linger on the matter.
He turned and left with Feng Mingyu.
Feng Mingyu followed behind like a well-behaved little girl, silent throughout.
When Mo Lin met her earlier, she was lively and spirited.
Now she seemed deflated, like a frost-bitten eggplant.
"Why didn’t you help me just now?" Mo Lin teased Feng Mingyu.
"Actually.. I also thought you didn’t quite seem human.." Feng Mingyu murmured.
"Get out of the car... hurry off my car..."
"And I saved you from a nightmare-level ghost; Ungrateful brat?" Mo Lin teased Feng Mingyu.
"Tch..."
Feng Mingyu placed her hand on her face and made a ghost face at Mo Lin.
She didn’t get out of the car.
The earlier conversation was merely in jest.
Mo Lin drove Feng Mingyu home, then went home himself.
.....
Wan Yu watched Mo Lin’s departing figure and collapsed to the ground, relieved.
"Senior Brother, why was that guy so strange? He isn’t human, why does he have such heavy ghost qi? It’s too peculiar." The chubby man asked, puzzled.
A Ghost-Controlling Master also has ghost qi, but that qi comes from contract ghosts.
Mo Lin’s ghost qi came from himself.
That’s why Wan Yu and others mistook Mo Lin for a ghost.
"How would I know, the world is vast, and there are things we don’t understand."
Wan Yu warned, "Under no circumstances should you provoke him, it could be lethal."
"We’ll discuss his situation when Master returns; until then, everyone should leave him be."
In his final words, Wan Yu raised his voice—this wasn’t a reminder.
It was a warning to the junior disciples: Mo Lin shouldn’t be provoked.
