Chapter 1240: Chapter 1240: Extra Story of the Eel 77

She couldn’t figure out why this was happening—just as Lu Yuwen ran toward her, the suppressed grievance and sorrow in her heart surged up all at once, storming like an overwhelming tide, threatening to drown her whole!

And this emotion peaked instantly when Lu Yuwen pulled her into his arms!

Something warm dripped from the corner of her eyes—

Su Man realized it was tears.

God, how many years had it been since she last cried???

“Are you okay?” Lu Yuwen held her in his arms, then loosened his grip slightly to study her as he held her by the shoulders. “Are you hurt? As soon as I got your message, I rushed over. On the way, I called a lawyer friend for advice. He says the case might not go to court. Domestic abuse against a girlfriend isn’t exactly a pretty thing—the other party probably won’t want it getting out. A little compensation ought to shut them up. Don’t worry.”

Su Man’s eyes grew hotter, and her tears became unstoppable.

Since she turned ten, she hadn’t faced such an embarrassing scene!

She actually cried—in public!

Probably out of sheer embarrassment, she instinctively buried her face deep in Lu Yuwen’s chest, using his embrace as a cover to hide her increasingly uncontrollable tears.

Lu Yuwen froze momentarily before naturally patting Su Man’s back, speaking gently to comfort her: “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine. Uncle, Aunt, and I will find a way. As long as you’re not hurt, that’s all that matters. When I first got your message, I thought you’d run into some reckless drunkard…”

His words were almost identical to what Li Li had said earlier, yet for some reason, Su Man couldn’t stand hearing him reassure her.

The more he tried to console her, the faster her tears seemed to flow!

When Li Li tried to comfort her, didn’t it just make her angrier?

Lu Yuwen guided her down the corridor away from the crowd, took out a packet of tissues he carried with him, and handed her a few sheets to wipe away her tears.

His low voice was soothing, his gaze tender—Su Man suddenly turned into a delicate little woman in front of him.

Meanwhile, Li Li stood there utterly dumbfounded.

He…

He had never seen Su Man act like this!

His heart was profoundly shaken!

He was completely at a loss!!!

This couldn’t be the Su Man he knew—the tomboy Su Man?! Growing up, she’d been scolded mercilessly by her elders, bloodied from fistfights, and even injured her calf while skateboarding together! What sort of brutal situations hadn’t she endured? Yet had she ever cried even once?

Why was she crying now?

Why?!

Li Li desperately wanted to march over, grab her, and demand answers—ideally, crack open her skull to see if she’d hit her head somehow!

Just then, the neurosurgeon who’d been called in the middle of the night arrived. The half-bald old man in his lab coat strode briskly past everyone without a glance, heading straight into the room.

Everyone’s hearts were in their throats!

But their worry lasted less than a minute before angry yelling echoed from inside:

“Why call me over when he’s snoring?! I’ve done over ten surgeries today and *just* started to sleep properly tonight, and you drag me here for this?!”

His booming voice startled the snoring man on the bed awake. His eyes darted open, but in an instant, he squeezed them shut again and remained motionless.

“Doctor, do you think he’s passed out again?” The nurse asked nervously.

The doctor roared, “He’s faking it!”

From outside the room, the man’s girlfriend couldn’t hold back and burst in, crying her heart out: “Doctor, please check carefully! My boyfriend hit his head and bled profusely! Will he become brain-dead in the future? Turn into a vegetable? What am I going to do? Doctor, you must save him!”

The doctor snapped irritably: “If he turns into a vegetable, I’ll introduce my brother-in-law to you. How’s that sound?!”

Whether the woman was frightened into silence or seriously considering the proposal, she sniffled without another word.
