Chapter 1243: Chapter 1243: Extra Story of the Eel 80
Suspension from work usually leads to only two outcomes:
One, after a period of cold treatment, you return to your original position; the other, as a disciplinary measure, you’re reassigned to another department.
Su Man didn’t know which one awaited her.
Her parents, while leveraging their status and connections to create a comfortable environment for her, wouldn’t indulge or shield her, so Su Man had to face the consequences this time.
A perfectly good job—this was how she ruined it.
She packed her things simply and returned home, dejected and regretful.
...
As evening approached, she stayed at home and groomed herself, preparing for a long-awaited date.
While fixing her hair in front of the mirror, she reflexively thought: she truly didn’t like being a traffic cop. Although the suspension left her frustrated and a little indignant, she wasn’t particularly heartbroken. In fact, she felt an inexplicable sense of relief.
And in the end, this incident didn’t affect her cheerful anticipation for the upcoming date at all.
Su Man reflected on herself: was she really becoming a little too romance-centered?
The doorbell rang downstairs.
Su Man assumed it was her mom who had forgotten the key, so she lifted her dress and walked briskly down the stairs. Upon opening the door, she was momentarily stunned to find Li Li outside.
Li Li was equally surprised and then glanced over her from head to toe, his mockery practically unstoppable: "Suspended from work and still in the mood to dress up like some butterfly?"
Su Man: "..."
She was clearly dressed in a tasteful style today; where in the world did "butterfly" come from?!
"Whatever, never mind," Li Li scoffed, walking straight into the house and plopping down onto the living room sofa casually. "Let’s talk."
"Talk about what?" Su Man followed him curiously. "I’m heading out in a while."
"Heading out?" Li Li sized her up again, his expression sour. "You’re not about to meet that man again, are you?!"
Su Man knew Li Li didn’t have a good impression of Lu Yuwen. Sitting down in the seat beside him, she earnestly replied, "We agreed to have dinner together. Actually, you’re misunderstanding him—he’s genuinely a good person. I hope you won’t be so biased against him in the future..."
Li Li had specifically come today to talk to her about Lu Yuwen, but to his disbelief, Su Man was giving *him* a lecture first!
"How long have you known him to declare he’s ’good’?!" Li Li looked at Su Man incredulously. "Can you get some perspective? Are you really going to wait until the day he cons you into complete ruin to finally believe what I’m saying?"
Su Man frowned. "He hasn’t conned me."
Li Li: "Not conned you? Didn’t your dad help him get that business license? Wasn’t your mom involved in the renovations of his shop? He’s taken full advantage of your family’s connections, and now he’s about to take their daughter too! You don’t call this conning? He’s just a bum milking your family dry!"
Su Man couldn’t stand hearing Li Li insult Lu Yuwen. She took several deep breaths to suppress her anger before calmly explaining, "It’s not like that. You’ve misunderstood. My parents are kind to him because he helped my dad in the past..."
"Oh, please!" Li Li interrupted her furiously, pointing a finger at her. "You’ve been brainwashed by that little schemer! You’ve lost all ability to think for yourself! No matter what I say, you refuse to hear it! Su Man, I’m begging you, wake up already, or you’ll have no place to cry when things go south!"
"Enough!" Su Man finally snapped, glaring at Li Li. "Can you stop already? Lu Yuwen has never spoken ill of you—in fact, he defended you! And yet, you can’t say a single decent word about him? You’ve gone too far!"
Li Li laughed bitterly in his fury: "He defended me? That guy’s a manipulative snake! Our friendship fell apart entirely because of him stirring things up! Are you blind or just refusing to see it?!"
Su Man was on the verge of exploding. After taking a deep breath, she abruptly stood up.
Grabbing her bag, she said coldly, "Lu Yuwen was right—you’re just an immature clown who’s never been slapped by reality!"
With that, she turned and walked away, throwing back one final frosty remark: "Close the door when you leave!"
Li Li chased after her, yelling furiously, "He actually said that about me?! Yet you claim he’s never badmouthed me! Su Man! — You’re nothing but a hypocritical dog!!!"
