Chapter 35: The Raid
"But sir, what about the dinner tomorrow? The stakeholders are going to be there, and they’ll expect to see the new boss. They’ll be expecting you."
Dante frowned at that. Dante knew that he would be occupied with the Bellagrini family for a while, and he wouldn’t have time to focus on anything else until he was sure that he had dealt with them. But Dante also knew that showing up for important events like these was necessary. George never missed a single one of these events, because it was at events like these that you learned who was still on your side and who was plotting against your company. Dante decided that he was going to go to the event and greet the more important members before leaving quickly! There were just too many things to do, so Dante couldn’t waste time mingling for too long.
"I’ll show up for the event when I’m free. Until I return, Fredrick will keep the guests entertained."
"Fredrick? You mean Fredrick Lucas, George’s son?"
"Yes, I mean Fredrick Lucas. Is there a problem with that?"
Dante turned to give Florence a heated look, but Florence immediately shook her head. Florence knew that things couldn’t be peaceful with the Lucas family right now! George Lucas had stolen the title of Boss away from Fredrick and given it to Dante, so there was no way Fredrick didn’t have some sort of grudge against Dante! So seeing Dante commanding Fredrick so easily without bothering to consider the tension shocked Florence! Was this the sort of hard-heartedness you needed to have if you were the Boss? Only someone who was in complete control of their emotions could disregard all this tension and keep going like Dante was! But was it really going to be alright? Florence didn’t know the answer to that, but it wasn’t her job to question the boss, so she decided that she was just going to do as he said.
"I’ll inform Fredrick about your orders, sir."
"Good."
Dante turned when he saw Risa coming back toward him with five large books in her hands, and Florence’s eyes widened as Risa suddenly dumped the large books into her arms! They were so heavy that Florence almost fell over from the weight! How the hell did Risa carry all these!?
’She has a slimmer figure than me! How is she so strong!?’
Florence looked jealously at Risa’s figure, and she shook her head as she tried to hold the books properly. Dante told her that these were five years’ worth of information about the finances of the family.
"Make sure no one outside the family looks through the book, and if I hear that a digital copy was made anywhere, I’ll take your head."
Dante spoke to Florence in a calm tone that didn’t properly reflect the threat that he had just given her, and before Florence could respond, Dante’s phone rang. Dante picked up the call, and he spoke to someone on the other end before he gestured for Risa to follow him as he started walking away. Florence could only watch them go for a few seconds before she finally sighed tiredly.
’I should’ve become a banker like mama told me to.’

[The Outskirts of the Third District]
The sun had already begun to set in the sky, and the city was slowly being covered in a calm shadow. There was a beautiful moon shining its light upon the various buildings, but the beautiful sky couldn’t hide the ugly underworld that had slowly begun to wake up in the darkness. As the sun set in the sky, the city slowly went to sleep, and it was during this time that the gangsters carried out their own missions.
At a dilapidated building hidden deep inside an abandoned region of the city, a loud voice could be heard laughing in glee. There were various cars parked in front of the dilapidated building, and anyone who saw them would be able to tell that these were the same cars that the men who attacked the Lucas warehouse earlier had used in running away! The abandoned building was lit up with various bright lights that could be seen through the windows, and the sound of music and partying could be heard echoing through the walls! All the men were over the moon with excitement after their successful attack on the warehouse, and now they decided to unwind and relax before they had to go their separate ways the next day! There was a large boombox playing music across the house, and the men were drinking and smoking while playing various games! Some men were being led away to private rooms by hookers that the men had gotten from the streets, and there were two hookers sitting beside a man with a grenade launcher for an arm!
The man smiled, wrapped his hands around the woman beside him, and laughed loudly!
"Rahahahahah! Those fucking Lucas didn’t know what hit them! They think they’re so high and mighty just because they’re popular! There’ll be nothing by the time we’re done with them!"
The men all laughed along with their boss, and the partying intensified! They all believed that they had struck a serious blow to the Lucas with their attack, and they were all going to be paid handsomely by Silas once they got out of here. And if it had been any other gang that the men had attacked, then there was a very high chance that they would have gotten away with their actions. They had a lot of resources, and they had run very far away from the city, so it was unlikely that anyone would be able to find them here! But it hadn’t been any random gang that they attacked! They attacked the Lucas family! A family that had crawled its way up to the apex of the city’s underworld through blood and warfare! The moment they made this mistake, their fates had been sealed. Because the Lucas didn’t believe that they were the best because they were popular; instead, they were popular because they were the fucking best!
Vroom!
The sound of various cars coming down the dirt road echoed through the night! The cars picked up storms of dust as they headed for the dilapidated building, and a man who had been smoking in front of the building suddenly patted the man beside him on the shoulder and told him to look at what was happening! The men were shocked to see the cars! They hadn’t been able to notice the cars due to the loud music, and now they were right on top of them! The two men didn’t even think about trying to warn the others as they quickly began heading around the back to run away, but before they could go far, two bullets impacted their skulls!
Bam! Bam!
"Ugh!"
The bullets hadn’t come from anyone close by! It had come from a man lying on top of a building more than two miles away from the dilapidated house. This man had a calm, emotionless face that made him look like a stalking predator, and he was called Anubis by the members of the Lucas family for this reason! He was the best shooter in the entire family and the one in charge of the Lucas family sniper unit! Anubis put his hand to his ear and spoke to Dante through the comms.
"Stragglers have been neutralized. I’m on standby for any runners."
On the other side of the comms, Dante hummed as he accepted the report. Dante was sitting at the back of a large black Humvee driven by Risa, and he watched as the large convoy of cars circled the building where the men were partying. Risa came down from the driver’s seat and opened the door for Dante once they arrived and Dante came down calmly. He was wearing a full black suit with a long black coat covering it all, and he took off his sunglasses and looked up at the shadows dancing inside the house while the rest of his men came down from their cars. Philip and his men were all wearing black combat suits with bulletproof vests and M16 rifles in their hands. They all stood around the house and crouched readily while waiting for Dante’s orders, and the moment Dante was sure that they were all ready, he spoke calmly.
"The grenadier should be left alive. Kill everybody else."
"GO!"
Philip shouted to the men, and they all charged towards the house.
