Chapter 1550: Inescapable Guilt

Chapter 1550: Chapter 1550: Inescapable Guilt

Qin Youxuan became so agitated that her words were incoherent, but before she could finish, Dan Hanjie silenced her.

Her tiny fists clenched as she pounded angrily against his chest.

Dan Hanjie let her vent without even a single groan.

Only when Qin Youxuan was exhausted did he carry her to the bed.

The moment her body touched the mattress, she tensed up instantly, glaring at Dan Hanjie with fierce wariness in her eyes.

"I won’t touch you. It’s too late, there are no cars. I’ll leave tomorrow."

Dan Hanjie’s deep voice had a trace of indulgence.

His large hand brushed over her brows and eyes, only to be slapped away by Qin Youxuan.

She turned her back to him, pulled the blanket over herself, and forced her eyes shut.

But tears instantly streamed from the corners of her eyes.

Clenching her teeth, her shoulders still trembled uncontrollably.

Her low whimpering echoed clearly in the quiet night.

Dan Hanjie lay beside her, listening to the sound of her stifled sobs, feeling as though a massive stone weighed on his chest, an indescribable ache.

With a long arm, he pulled her into his embrace.

Ignoring her resistance, he held her tightly.

Qin Youxuan turned over and buried herself in his arms, sinking her teeth into his chest.

Just like she used to when she felt wronged—some habits neither of them could quit.

"Stop crying." Dan Hanjie’s magnetic voice carried a hint of barely perceptible helplessness.

For such an indifferent and noble man, it was the first time he felt such heart-wrenching pain because of a woman’s tears.

Qin Youxuan said nothing and bit down even harder.

Dan Hanjie let out a muffled grunt, his large hand pressing against the back of her head, though without exerting any force.

He let her vent her emotions in his arms until she cried herself to exhaustion and drifted off to sleep.

Her small, tear-streaked face looked so pitiful, brimming with grievance.

...

The next morning, when Qin Youxuan woke up, Dan Hanjie was already gone.

Gazing at the empty space beside her, Qin Youxuan’s eyes darkened.

Her gaze fell on the suitcase he hadn’t taken with him, her delicate brows furrowing.

He hadn’t left?

Qin Youxuan’s emotions felt like they were on a roller coaster. She quickly sat upright, rubbed her eyes, and ran out of the room.

After searching all around and failing to find any trace of him, she returned despondently.

Arriving at the doorway, she finally realized what she had just been doing.

She had been the one who told him to leave. If he stayed, why would she have any reason to feel happy?

"Youxuan, you’re up..."

Su Yiru stood behind her, hesitating as she called out to the distracted Qin Youxuan.

Qin Youxuan turned her head to look at her but didn’t say anything.

"Dan Hanjie left this morning. When I saw him leave, his expression didn’t look good. Did you two say something yesterday?" Su Yiru’s eyes flickered.

She was worried, unsure how much Qin Youxuan had overheard the night before.

"We didn’t say anything. This is the Ye Family; he’s never been welcome here. It’s better that he’s gone."

Qin Youxuan bit her lip and turned back to her room.

She dragged all of Dan Hanjie’s luggage out and asked the housekeeper to throw it away.

Only then did she clap her hands and lie back on the bed.

Hugging her pillow, she tossed and turned, but no matter what, she couldn’t fall asleep.

Her swollen eyes, puffy like walnuts, stung at the slightest touch.

But her mind kept drifting to Dan Hanjie—he hadn’t stepped out of the house for so many days. Where would he go today?

The media had been relentlessly chasing after his news. She wondered if he’d end up getting cornered by them...

"Thud—"

Qin Youxuan raised her hand and gave her forehead a firm smack.

"None of this has anything to do with you anymore, Qin Youxuan. You don’t owe him anything. He killed your father!"
