The few guards at the gate were still wondering what could have happened at this late hour that required the base chief to be summoned, fearing they’d be reprimanded for disturbing his sleep.
However, as they shone their powerful flashlights outside and saw the mountains of supplies piled up, all their grievances vanished.
They immediately let Ding Yun in and quickly called the base chief’s operator.
While communication was not as convenient as before the apocalypse, this only applied to ordinary people. Key positions, important departments, and high-level base leaders could still maintain smooth communication within a certain range, as establishing a small-scale communication network wasn't particularly difficult.
Upon learning of the situation, the operator didn’t dare to delay and woke the base chief.
Ding Yun then waited in the lounge by the door for over ten minutes for the base chief to arrive. This time, the base chief seemed to have prepared many words for Ding Yun. He eagerly clasped Ding Yun’s hand upon meeting her, his emotions running high. However, Ding Yun truly didn’t want to hear his thanks and feared he would ask for favors after expressing gratitude. Thus, she directly stated:
“You don’t need to thank me. I’ve been busy all night and am very tired. The goods are outside. You can receive them yourself. I’m going back to sleep now.”
With that, Ding Yun broke free from his grasp.
Yawning, she returned home.
“Noble character, truly noble character.
Quick, quickly call everyone who can move in the various departments to come out and move the supplies. We’ve struck it rich this time. You all saw that person just now, didn’t you? Pass down the word: if you see her again, treat her as you would me. You must be respectful, understand?
Oh, no, you must be even more respectful than you are to me.”
“She might be needed in the future. You must also be polite to her family and ensure they don’t suffer any bullying within the base.
That’s all for now. Hurry up and get to work!”
As the base chief finished his orders, his subordinates quickly began notifying people, opening doors, and preparing to register the incoming goods. A flurry of activity ensued.
Meanwhile, Ding Yun returned home without disturbing her parents.
She slept for an hour to catch up and then got up. After greeting them while they were having breakfast and chatting for a while, she returned to her room to continue pondering how to complete her mission.
…
Huston United Base.
The base’s director, Kames, along with the other eighteen elders of the council, once again pressured the base’s research institute to accelerate their research progress. They warned that if they didn’t, they, the powerful elite whose average age exceeded ninety-five, would soon be unable to hold on.
“It’s been over a year, almost two years, since the apocalypse began. The ability crystals you predicted might appear have now materialized. Why haven’t the miracle factors that allow for direct evolution without side effects been successfully researched? How much longer must we wait?”
“Two months ago, you told us that with enough ability crystals, you could create a perfect evolution potion, which, combined with miracle factors, would promote human perfect evolution. Yet, two months have passed.
You’re now telling me we still need to wait.
If you can’t provide a reasonable explanation, I believe not only is your position as research institute director untenable, but your life is also forfeit. Are you treating us like fools?”
Amidst the angry roars of Kames and an elder, the research institute’s director, Vic, could only brace himself and try his best to defend himself:
“No, no, how would I dare?
In fact, the assurances I made earlier are largely sound. We have even manufactured a near-perfect evolution potion.
Now, only one final challenge remains.
That is, the ability crystals from the zombies themselves have special properties, and the resulting evolution potions also possess these special properties. However, a person’s specific attribute is hard to determine. If the attributes match,
the evolution potion can naturally be used.
But the crucial problem is that we cannot currently ascertain the attribute of a normal person. We have tried randomly testing a few individuals, but due to attribute differences, they all died directly, their pineal glands exploding. Once this problem is solved, human evolution will be entirely possible.”
They had only recently discovered this issue. Who would have thought that besides race, gender, and personality, humans also had different attributes?
When the zombies mutated and developed various strange abilities, they hadn’t paid much attention to this aspect. It wasn’t until recently, during an experiment, that they injected a person with an evolution potion made from a hundred water-attribute zombie crystal cores. Shortly after the injection, flames erupted from the person’s pineal gland, resisting the water-attribute evolution potion. Upon failing to resist, the pineal gland exploded, leading them to realize this point.
The difficulty then arose: before injecting the evolution potion, no one knew a person’s attribute. They also hadn’t analyzed any commonalities from the zombies to determine which type of person would possess which attribute.
However, once the evolution potion was injected, if the attributes were lucky enough to match, evolution might succeed. But if they were unlucky, only death would result. They had no way to interrupt the process. The different attributes they had discovered so far exceeded seventy types, making the probability of a perfect match incredibly low and difficult.
“Then how do you plan to solve this problem?
We don’t have much time left. I’ll give you another six months. If you can’t resolve it within six months, you will be buried with us.”
“The Human Purge Plan and the Human Evolution Plan are not that secret. Once other research institutions discover the specific function of ability crystals, it will be easy to deduce that the zombie virus was deliberately engineered and released by us to manufacture ability crystals.
We are out of time, do you understand?
Not all high-level officials in every country are on our side. Only through successful evolution can we completely usher in a new era, release a zombie virus that can infect everyone, and eradicate the countries that oppose us or disagree with our methods.”
“I will do my best. We are currently experimenting with the dosage of evolution potions that can activate human attributes without harming the body.
As long as we have sufficient samples,
we should be able to determine the accurate dosage very soon…”
“Very well. I will send people to wipe out one or two more bases and send you tens of thousands of people for further experimentation. Do not fear the loss of lives; ensure the diversity of samples.
Ensure that the potions we use are flawless.”
“Yes!”
