Chapter 35: Meeting at the cafe
Jaden stood before a wide mirror as he fixed his tie. He wore a black shirt, a black coat draped over it, black trousers, and black leather shoes, completing his simple attire. The attire was nothing special... something the mayor’s son would usually avoid wearing, but Jaden knew that the city wasn’t affected by what he wore.
He remembered entering the city while wearing his clothes from Earth after all.
"All set," Jaden added with a grin and walked out of the bath as he made his way towards the hall.
His room also had a similar mirror, but he liked to use the one in the bath more than his own.
Descending the stairs, his eyes landed on Shelly, who stood near the entrance of the mansion’s hall while wearing the usual maid uniform and the usual indifferent expression.
Walking towards her, Jaden wore his usual playful smile and greeted her.
"Good morning, Shelly."
Shelly finally looked at him and replied flatly.
"Good morning."
Both of them exchanged words through their eyes for a few moments, and then Jaden spoke as he walked towards the exit gates.
"Let’s go."
Shelly followed behind him with her hands folded at her abdomen.
The duo walked past the iron gates and boarded a carriage which was already standing there. The carriage driver pulled at the reins, and the carriage began to move.
Their carriage passed through the streets of the nightshade city without any obstacles, as there was nearly no crowd at this time of the day. The civilians were either busy setting up their shops and stalls or leaving for other work.
They soon entered the central district, and the carriage stopped before a three-storey building. The building had cream-coloured walls, and its inside was being illuminated by the steaming sunlight through the colourful glass windows.
Jaden and Shelly stepped down from the carriage, and Shelly paid the carriage charge before stepping closer to Jaden.
Jaden looked at the three-storey building, which was a cafe frequented by city nobles and higher-ups with interest in his eyes, before he asked.
"So... this is the Sunflower Cafe?"
Shelly didn’t say anything and just gave a slight nod.
Remembering who he was with, Jaden heaved a sigh and stepped towards the entrance of the Sunflower Cafe.
As he pushed the entrance door, a slight melodious chime rang within the cafe, and Jaden looked at the small silver bell hanging from the ceiling.
Looking around, his eyes fell onto the chairs and tables covered with designed table cloths set up beside the windows... the chairs also looked comfortable.
’No wonder it is so famous among the nobles of the city.’
Right then, a dark-haired young woman with sparkling brown eyes walked up to them and called out.
"Lord Jaden, it’s a pleasure to have you in our cafe."
Jaden smiled at her and replied.
"The pleasure is mine."
The young woman straightened and looked at both of them with a sweet smile. She wore a simple dark gown, which looked quite good on her; however, Jaden had to lower his head to look at her face because of her short stature.
Seeing him do that, a vein popped out of her head, but she calmed herself and added.
"Please, follow me."
She then turned towards the stairs at the far end and walked towards them while unknowingly whispering a few words.
"Fucking giants! Hmph! It’s you all who are taller than needed."
Jaden nearly let out a chuckle, but forced himself not to; even Shelly smiled a little at the waitress’s tantrum.
The duo followed behind her, and they soon reached a tall door leading to the room on the third floor.
The waitress bowed to them and added.
"This is your room, please enjoy yourselves."
After saying that, the waitress left with hurried steps as she muttered something under her breath.
Jaden was sure that she was once again cursing others for being taller than needed.
He finally let out a chuckle.
"She is a funny one, isn’t she?"
Shelly gave him a slight nod and replied.
"She is."
Hearing her reply, Jaden turned to her with a surprised look.
’Oh? Even she likes her, heh...’
He shook his head at that thought and pushed open the tall door. Just as he did so, a room with intricately designed red walls with a white wooden table at the centre and five chairs placed around it. This time, the table was round and the chairs were positioned like stars.
"Hmm... It’s good, alright," he praised as he walked towards the chair at the far end and sat in it.
Shelly also walked and stood beside him as the duo waited for others to come.
A few moments passed, and the sound of curses came through the hallway leading to their room.
"How the fuck would I know? You sweet devouring shit."
"What? Why do you always swear at me! You stupid madman!"
"The fuck did you say?"
"Fuck you!"
"W-what?! Come here, you bitch!"
Hearing those words, Jaden facepalmed himself and heaved a sigh as he muttered.
"These two..."
The doors opened with a thud as Arden ran and hid behind Jaden’s chair.
Jamie soon walked in with a furious look and looked around, searching for Arden.
"Calm down, you two... take your seats."
Jamie looked at Jaden and let out a heavy sigh as he cursed under his breath and walked towards his chair.
"Fucking ant."
Arden also stood up and walked towards his chair as he smirked at Jamie.
Seeing the smirk spread across his face, Jamie clenched his fists and let out a short breath to calm himself, but he still ended up cursing.
"Fuck, where are the others? Dammit."
Jaden looked at the two of them and leaned back in his chair as he thought.
’How did the two of them manage to survive till now? ...Is this city really dangerous?’
Right at that moment, the doors parted once again, and Navin and Selina stepped inside.
