Chapter 65: Ruan Chanchan: Keep This Matter To Yourself

Turned out that Ruan Chanchan’s worries were quite spot on. That night, Ruan Zeqiu developed a fever. Fortunately, Ruan Chanchan had already treated his wounds; thus, not a single one festered, and with Ruan Chanchan feeding him the fever medicine by mixing it in water, Ruan Zeqiu’s fever went down by a notch.

When the mer woke up the next morning, he felt quite tired and his throat was parched. He felt so thirsty that he couldn’t help but lick his dry lips.

"Are you thirsty?"

He raised his head and looked at Ruan Chanchan, who had woken up upon hearing the rustling sounds. She looked at Ruan Zeqiu and yawned before stretching out her hand and putting it on her forehead, and then placing the other hand on top of Ruan Zeqiu’s forehead. She carefully measured their temperature and sighed. "It seems like your fever has subsided a lot."

Ruan Chanchan was quite worried last night when Ruan Zeqiu started burning and calling for their late father. She didn’t have any idea what kind of person their late father was, but he must have been nice to the siblings because Ruan Zeqiu called for their father instead of sister or mother.

However, even if he was kind to the siblings, Daddy Ruan was gone.

Fortunately, Ruan Chanchan had always kept some common medicines in her supermarket, and she could use them in times of need. If not, she was worried that with such a high fever, Ruan Zeqiu was going to get his mind burnt. Fortunately, she had enough medicine with her and was able to bring the fever down or else, who knows what might have happened to this mer? If he had turned into a fool, Ruan Chanchan was worried that she might not have taken such good care of him as if he had taken care of her predecessor.

After all, when she lived as Mo Qiang, her father had taken care of her. As her father loved her more than his own life, she was treated like a treasure in the palm of his hands. How could she know how to take care of others? And when she died and started the cycle of repaying for her sin, she was either born as someone who was orphaned at birth, abandoned or even thrown out of the house. Worst came to worst, her parents would die in an accident, leaving her alone.

Year after year, she had been alone; how could she know how to take care of anyone? Especially if that someone was a fool? Of course, she could have learnt how to take care of Ruan Zeqiu, but given their situation, Ruan Chanchan knew that if Ruan Zeqiu became a fool, they might not even have a place in the tribe.

Fortunately, everything was alright.

"I–I had a fever?" Ruan Zeqiu was stunned. He looked down and tried to move his hands and feet; however, the more he tried to move, the more he felt that his hands and feet had turned into lead. He raised his head and looked at Ruan Chanchan with a frown on his face. He said to her, "Am I dreaming?" he asked with a worried look on his face. How could he survive after getting a fever?

When Ruan Chanchan heard his words, she was amused. She curled her lips and flicked him on the forehead. She said to him, "What do you mean by ’you are dreaming’? Do you think that you are dreaming of getting better?"

Ruan Zeqiu nodded. He had seen many children around his age dying due to fever. How could he not be surprised after hearing that he had survived the night, even though he was suffering through a high fever? It was simply unbelievable! But then he thought about all the magical things that his sister could do, and his heart couldn’t help but swell with warmth and pride.

His sister! His sister was able to do something that even the guardians of the Beast Temple wouldn’t be able to do.

Ruan Chanchan knew what the mer was thinking about; however, she didn’t say anything. She had once acted arrogant and conceited, but now Ruan Chanchan no longer had the same attitude towards life. She was no longer keen on taking credit for something that she had done. As long as others knew that it was her, that was enough.

"Sister, what kind of magical thing did you give me? Even the guardians of the beast temple cannot save someone who is suffering from a high fever. Even the priestess of the beast temple is helpless when it comes to treating high fever," Ruan Zeqiu remarked with an awed voice.

"It’s nothing. What matters is that you are alright," said Ruan Chanchan as she took the cloth that she had taken out of her space and wrung it before dipping it in the cold water and placing it on Ruan Zeqiu’s forehead. "You should, however, keep this matter to yourself. You already saw what your sister can do; it’s something that no one can do. What if someone takes your sister away with them?"

"How can they do that? I will fight to the death with them!" Ruan Zeqiu sat up abruptly. However, as soon as he sat up straight, his vision turned dark, and he nearly fainted again. Fortunately, Ruan Chanchan pushed him back on the ground and said to him, "You need to rest. If you continue jumping around, then I am afraid that you will end up getting sicker instead of getting better."

"How am I supposed to rest? What about the hunt!?" Ruan Zeqiu was still worried about the hunt, which left Ruan Chanchan speechless. She said to him, "There is no way you can join the hunt with your body burning."

"Then what will we eat?" Ruan Zeqiu questioned fretfully. The two of them were alone, and they had no elders who would take care of them. If he didn’t go out to hunt, then how would they feed themselves? He had never fallen sick before but he did know that fever didn’t just go away.
