Chapter 67: Yuan Ni: Sister Xia~

"You—How dare you!" Nan Zhi’s face flushed red. The reason he came looking for trouble with Ruan Chanchan was that he wanted to prove to the members of the tribe that Ruan Chanchan hadn’t changed that much and that a fool would always stay a fool, but he never thought that Ruan Chanchan would actually confront him head-on.

This woman, who couldn’t even speak a single comprehensive sentence, was now telling him to get lost? It was a slap in his face.

"What do you mean by dare you?" Ruan Chanchan hadn’t forgotten how this mer had caused trouble for her the last time when the two of them met. Just because her family had a warrior-kind beastmer and his family didn’t have one, the mer kept targeting her. The past – her was a fool and didn’t know anything better, and yet Nan Zhi had never shown her any kindness. Since that was the case, why should she hold back?

Anyway, she had been holding back for a long time.

Ruan Chanchan sneered and looked at the mer before saying to him, "Do you think you are my mother? Why will I stay quiet when you are causing trouble for me for no reason?"

Nan Zhi’s face turned red because of the embarrassment that he was feeling at the moment. He glared at Ruan Chanchan and said to her, "Don’t feel so smug. Once my sister returns, I will tell her what you did."

"You will tell her what? How you came looking for trouble and ended up getting your arse handed to you? Since you couldn’t deal with me, are you going to ask your big sister to take care of me? Grow up."

After she finished speaking, Ruan Chanchan rolled her eyes and walked away. It wasn’t that she was unwilling to fight with Nan Zhi, but Ruan Chanchan didn’t want to throw her weight around the tribe before she could establish her foothold. She and her brothers were still treated as outsiders by these people, and she didn’t want to hand them any more ammunition to use against her or her brother.

Nan Zhi’s expression changed again and again. However, before he could lose his temper, he realised that Ruan Chanchan was the only person who had spoken to him as if his sister was going to return alive. She didn’t mock him for waiting for someone who was never going to return, nor did she say any harsh words that would imply that his sister was dead.

He blinked his eyes and turned his head away with a huff.

Ruan Chanchan didn’t know that her casual words had touched Nan Zhi’s heart. She walked to the forest and started collecting dry wooden branches and logs. However, just as she was about to turn around and pick another log, she ran into someone.

"Ouch!"

"What the—"

Ruan Chanchan raised her head while rubbing her forehead. She looked at Yuan Ni, who had plopped on the ground and was now glaring at her.

"Can you not watch where you are going?" he snapped at her.

Seriously, what a stroke of bad luck. He came out of the cave to avoid Ruan Chanchan’s topic, but who would have thought that he would run into her in the forest?

When Ruan Chanchan heard his scolding, she was a bit stupefied. As far as she knew, she hadn’t done anything to make the mer get so angry at her, but since it was indeed her fault, she sighed and apologised. "I am sorry. Are you hurt?" As she spoke, she stretched out her hand for the mer to take.

However, as soon as she offered her hand to the young mer, the latter smacked it to one side and huffed. "Don’t think that by doing such things, you can win my heart."

After speaking, Yuan Ni got to his feet on his own and then walked past Ruan Chanchan with a snort. Upon seeing the actions of the mer, Ruan Chanchan was speechless. Just what was that?

"But—who are you?" Ruan Chanchan muttered the mer. What kind of claims was he even making by telling her that she couldn’t win his affections? Why would she even try to do such a thing?

"Darling, don’t think too much," said Xiao Xi. He was also unhappy with how that mer had treated Ruan Chanchan, but he didn’t want to bother with such a self-centred mer. He had read all about narcissists, and that mer did reflect the ambitions of becoming one. Just because Ruan Chanchan helped him, did he think that she was trying to win his heart? Humph, he truly needed to check his own eyes before making such claims.

Xiao Xi then turned to look at Ruan Chanchan and said to her, "I think that mer has a screw loose in his mind. You didn’t even say anything to him, and yet he said those nonsensical words; he must have lost his mind."

"I think so too. Maybe that poor guy is just as crazy as I was in the past," said Ruan Chanchan as she turned around and started looking for dried wood. She didn’t take the ugly incident to heart.

On the other side, Yuan Ni, who had walked away, turned to look behind him. He thought that Ruan Chanchan would definitely chase after him, and was stumped when he saw that the woman hadn’t even bothered to look for him and was already heading away. His expression stiffened. Did he really think too much?

Did Ruan Chanchan really have no intentions when she approached him?

Yuan Ni pondered and recalled how the woman stared at him as if he had gone crazy, and his expression couldn’t help but turn a bit awkward.

"Ah Ni!"

Yuan Ni snapped his head and turned to look at Shao Xia, who was waving her hand at him. The second the mer saw Shao Xia, he forgot all about Ruan Chanchan and the warnings that his grandmother had given to him and he rushed over to where Shao Xia was standing.

"Sister Xia, you–"
