Zhúyàn finally got home and saw several missed calls on her phone.
One had no contact name, while the other two were saved as "Pretty Boy" and "White Lotus."
Honestly, sometimes it's better not to have certain things.
She dialed the number with no name. After a long pause, it was answered with a furious roar: "Where have you been? Why aren't you answering your phone!"
Zhúyàn thought for a moment and realized it was the original host's mother. Mimicking the original host's tone, she replied, "I went to see a movie. Is something wrong?"
"Watching a movie? Who were you with? You don't come home on the weekend, are you trying to fly to heaven?"
"What's it to you?" The original host was very rebellious, and Zhúyàn followed suit: "You never seem to care about me, so spit it out if you have something to say, or I'm hanging up."
"You ungrateful girl! You've really turned into a devil. Come home tomorrow, someone wants to see you."
"Who?"
Yan Mu probably intended to say, but for some reason, she didn't: "You'll know when you get back. Get some rest, and come back early tomorrow!"
With that, the call ended.
"What's up?"
Zhúyàn glanced at her phone, tossing it onto the sofa: "My mom, wants me to go back tomorrow."
Jiang Chóngyǎn snuggled closer, hugging her arm: "I'll go with you."
"Mmm, I don't feel comfortable leaving you running around. I'll take a shower and get some rest."
She said this and got up, heading into the bathroom.
Jiang Chóngyǎn wanted to ask why she wasn't comfortable, but Zhúyàn was too quick, disappearing before he could ask.
What's there to be uncomfortable about?
Really.
"Wuwu..."
The phone vibrated. It was the one Zhúyàn had left on the sofa. He picked it up and saw "White Lotus" flashing on the screen.
He hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Yan Zhu, where the hell have you been? You're not answering your phone."
"She's taking a shower. Is there something you need?"
"Holy crap!" The female voice on the other end was astonished: "Who are you! Her gigolo? This idiot has gotten bold, actually finding a gigolo. Is she tired of living!"
Jiang Chóngyǎn frowned and hung up the phone.
A moment later, the caller rang again.
After three consecutive calls, Jiang Chóngyǎn finally picked up: "If you have something to say, say it."
"Hey, hey, hey, I do have something! Don't hang up, you're quite spirited... Tell Yan Zhu not to come back tomorrow, no, don't come back at all for now. I don't know who she's offended outside? They've come to your house, and your mom can't handle it. Tell her to lay low outside until this blows over, and come back then. If you're out of money, come to me, I'll lend you some."
Jiang Chóngyǎn's frown deepened. He perfunctorily replied, "Understood, I'll tell her. Thank you."
After speaking, he hung up the phone.
Soon, another message popped up on the phone.
It was a money transfer.
Zhúyàn emerged from the bathroom, her hair still damp. Seeing him holding his phone, she asked, "Who is it this time!"
"White Lotus." Jiang Chóngyǎn didn't know who it was, so he could only relay: "She says you shouldn't go back for the next couple of days, that you've offended someone, and that person has gone to your house. Your mom can't handle it, and she's transferred money to you."
Zhúyàn recalled that it was the original host's half-sister. This action didn't quite align with the character's personality in the plot.
But then again, they grew up together; there shouldn't be so many problematic relatives.
It was probably because her stepfather was a smooth talker, the original host was rebellious, and Yan Mu favored her younger daughter. In comparison, the two had some conflicts. But in a true crisis, one wouldn't just watch the other die.
"So, are we still going tomorrow?"
Zhúyàn could guess with her toes who she had offended.
It seemed like the person had just been released from solitary confinement.
Again and again, they were incredibly obnoxious and practically courted death.
It would be unreasonable not to fulfill their wishes.
"Yes, of course, we're going!"
