Nan Bei’s gaze shifted to Zhuo Jin: “She’s always been with us. Were you… yours, too?”
“Everyone who looked in the mirror.”
This was trouble.
She had witnessed Zhuo Jin’s combat prowess. While a copy might not be as strong as the real Zhuo Jin, she could easily deal with these people.
Perhaps the other party hadn't intended to conceal their identities.
“Miss Jiang, what do we do?”
“Let’s go find Zhan Ying first.”
Zhan Ying had likely been taken by other copies earlier. The fact that they hadn’t killed her but merely abandoned her here suggested Nan Bei’s earlier guess wasn’t entirely correct.
“How do we find her?”
“Follow me.”
She turned to leave, but Jian Yan immediately latched onto her arm: “I’m going with you.”
Zhuo Jin’s expression remained unchanged: “Mm.”
Jian Yan: “…”
What did “Mm” mean? This woman used to talk so much. Why was she acting so aloof now? So annoying.
Shen Yu and the middle-aged man, ignoring their pain, scrambled to their feet and followed.
Seeing Zhuo Jin heading directly upstairs with clear purpose, Nan Bei asked, puzzled: “Do you know where she is?”
“Mm.”
“Why?”
“I put something on her.” As soon as Zhuo Jin finished speaking, her footsteps halted.
Across from them stood the group of eight they had seen earlier.
When they had first seen them, only one of them was a copy. Now, only three were still normal humans.
They were quite efficient.
She ignored these people and turned to go upstairs.
“Wait!”
This time, it was someone from the opposing group who spoke. A woman, not yet replaced by a copy, called out to them and then ran straight towards them: “Save me!”
“Qin Lu, what are you doing?”
“You’re fake!” the woman yelled from behind Zhuo Jin, “You killed Brother Jiu. I saw it with my own eyes. He’s a fake!”
The man she pointed at stepped forward, enraged: “What nonsense are you spouting? I’m perfectly fine, don’t curse me.”
The man spoke as he walked over, and said to Zhuo Jin, “I’m so sorry. She’s been through a lot and isn’t thinking straight. I…”
“Kill him!”
Nan Bei nudged Shen Yu beside her.
“You do it.”
Shen Yu reacted immediately, drawing a gun in a flash and firing without hesitation at the man’s head.
“Bang!”
Blood splattered onto the woman, yet she showed no fear: “He’s dead, finally dead! Dead…”
“They killed our boss. Brothers, attack!”
The copies incited the remaining two normal individuals to charge forward. Zhuo Jin’s hand conjured a sword light, and she slashed without hesitation.
The copies were instantly sent flying several meters, crashing to the ground.
The two normal individuals, however, remained rooted to the spot.
She leaped over them and swung her sword at the copies on the ground. Just as she was about to kill them all, they seemed to be protected by something. Her attack missed, and the copies quickly scrambled up, turned, and fled.
Zhuo Jin withdrew her spiritual energy and looked back at Jian Yan.
He smiled innocently.
What are you looking at?
Stupid woman, I was trying to save you.
Why butt into other people’s business?
Of course, he couldn’t speak like this, given his delicate and kind persona.
Nan Bei quickly interjected: “You already have two points. You can’t kill anymore. Wait for them to make a move next time.”
Zhuo Jin replied without any hesitation: “It’s fine. This place is going to be destroyed anyway.”
The two men left behind were staring blankly at Qin Lu, seemingly bewildered by their current predicament.
Qin Lu, on the other hand, was somewhat afraid of them.
Sometime ago, the eight people around her had started to become increasingly abnormal. Her intuition was strong, and she had sensed something was wrong for a while but had never dared to voice it.
Not until she personally witnessed two people in their group kill their leader, only for him to safely return to the group as if nothing had happened.
She had kept telling herself she was mistaken, but the seed of doubt had taken root, sprouted, and finally, she could no longer bear it and wanted to escape.
She happened to meet them, and that’s how it ended.
Nan Bei comforted her: “They should be real.”
“…Should be?”
The younger of the two men asked aggrievedly: “What real or fake? What are you talking about? Qin Lu, you just said Brother Jiu wasn’t Brother Jiu, then they… what is going on?”
Qin Lu sobbed as she explained: “When we stopped to rest earlier, I saw Wu Chen and Shi Zuo kill Brother Jiu with my own eyes and threw his body downstairs. But when I went back, Brother Jiu was still with the group. I was terrified, I thought I was mistaken, but Brother Jiu’s behavior became stranger and stranger, he made no sound when he walked. That’s when I dared to suspect he had been replaced. Others too. There are only three of us left,呜呜呜…”
The other two men listened to her words, and recalling the suspicious incidents along their journey, they were thoroughly terrified.
“You mean everyone else is fake? Where did they come from? Why are they exactly the same as…”
