The third year of the apocalypse.
The world's surviving population is no more than one hundred million. Most of these people are gathered in human survivor bases. Within the country, there are over fifty large and small bases. The A City base, with the largest population, has over three million survivors. Lin City ranks among the top, with a population close to two million.
Two years ago, Lin City base researched a drug that could combat the R virus. This drug not only protected ordinary people from the R virus but could also be spread on the soil, restoring its normal vitality.
The only drawback was that this drug was produced using spiritual spring water. Therefore, even with knowledge of all its components, other bases could not manufacture it. They relied on Lin City base's medicine to restore plants, allowing their crops to survive.
Although A City remained the largest base, Lin City base was the most important. Foreign countries had also developed a drug, but its effectiveness against the virus was less significant and it could only be used on humans. To survive better, many foreign bases found ways to purchase medicine from Lin City.
Lin City base did not deliberately make things difficult for them. Almost everyone who came to buy or exchange medicine could take some away. Lin City base, both internally and externally, was renowned.
However, a large population also brings disadvantages. Their strategy of unified resource management and dispatch had been increasingly criticized before the drug was developed. Many newly joined smaller organizations did not obey orders, not overtly opposing them, but subtly causing trouble behind the scenes.
Jin Wen Ye suppressed them with his strong hand, while urging the research department to speed up. Finally, in the first year of the apocalypse, the drug was developed. No longer worried about ordinary people starving to death, Jin Wen Ye boldly loosened his control, allocating all resources. Based on people's contribution points, he distributed housing, tools, weapons, food, and land...
This city now resembled a small country. Jin Wen Ye was the supreme official administrator, and Shen Zhong Yan was the base's top expert. In addition to the esper organization, the base also had tens of thousands of soldiers, most of whom were conscripted later, while some were survivors who joined later.
Most of these people were loyal to the government and stood firmly on Jin Wen Ye's side. Although factions existed among the subordinates, they only dared to engage in minor clandestine activities due to the watchful eyes above. This situation had persisted for two years, but recently, trouble had begun to stir again.
"We've heard of that group from Northern Myanmar for a long time. They were notorious for being lawless even before. After the apocalypse descended, human order collapsed. In this era of declining magic, the entire world is the same, but they are particularly unique. Northern Myanmar was mostly forest before. After the R virus spread, most of the world turned into desert, and it was no exception there. They have a survivor base with nearly a hundred thousand people in that city. It's a paradise for high-level espers, and a hell for ordinary people and low-level espers. They used to openly rob other bases. Rare espers, women, and weapons were their main targets. They hadn't dared to come here before, until this group joined four months ago."
Shen Qian pointed to the image on the projector: "They have always been in contact with the forces in Northern Myanmar. During this period, they resold base weapons and kidnapped over twenty women. This group has now been apprehended. My suggestion is to round them all up and eliminate them completely."
"But aren't other countries' governments now calling for all humans to unite? If we directly suppress them, won't we be criticized?"
Jin Wen Ye and Sang Jue couldn't help but laugh. Jin Wen Ye said, "We don't offend others unless they offend us. I also agree to round them up. As for other countries, they couldn't control us before, and now they need us for everything. Even if they find out, what can they do? Condemn us? Are you afraid of their condemnation?"
A young soldier who looked refined said, "Those people are the most insidious and hypocritical. Their words can be treated as fart. I agree to round them up. Damn it, if I didn't want to kill innocent people, I would have bombed them with a missile, anyway, no one can control us now."
The United Federation had long been a mere formality. Over the past two years, the number of aliens at sea had increased, and they were growing larger. The latest satellite images showed that the sea snakes in the Atlantic had grown to over ten kilometers long. Forget ships and submarines, even aircraft had to fly higher over the sea.
However, the skies were not safe either. The reproductive capacity of alien birds was astonishing. For example, their base was attacked by alien birds on average twice a month. After two years, not only had they not been eradicated, but they had become more numerous and larger. Some of them were mutated variants after being infected by the virus, possessing strong physical attacks, and now also chemical attacks.
Transportation between countries across the sea had become a major problem. Now, there was almost no contact. If it weren't for the existence of 007, they wouldn't even have communication.
Who cares about whom?
"I agree."
"I also agree."
People in the conference room raised their hands one after another, and soon the number exceeded two-thirds. Shen Qian said, "Then this matter is settled. We don't need to make a big fuss. We just need to eliminate this organization targeting our base. Those who want to go should sign up as soon as possible. The contribution points will be 1.5 times that of other missions."
"I'll go." Sang Jue stood up first. "I'll lead the team."
Others were eager to try.
Now that their base was large, and except for the occasional aliens that actively sought death, most aliens did not dare to approach them. The places where they could usually earn contribution points were for building and strengthening the base.
Therefore, everyone cherished the opportunity to go out on missions.
"I want to go too. I have a few newcomers under me who want to be trained. Sang Jue, shall we go together?"
Sang Jue said, "There will be plenty of opportunities for training later. You might not know this from before the apocalypse, but a gang in Northern Myanmar came from Central America. They were a branch of a large drug trafficking group, originally intending to develop their drug lines in Eurasia, but the apocalypse descended. Most of those people had undergone military-style management. Their training was very strict, and some were killing machines trained by an international organization. Even without espers, the ferocity of those people was not something ordinary espers could deal with. You can choose people, but training is out of the question. Try to pick some veterans to avoid casualties if you encounter them."
That person also cared about his subordinates. Upon hearing this, he immediately said, "Then I'll pick some veterans to go with you. Be prepared. I've heard of the people from that drug trafficking group before; they are like madmen, slaughtering like knives."
The people in the conference room remembered the various international news they had seen before and had no good impression of the group from Northern Myanmar. Those who had just wanted to go together also gave up the idea.
They prepared for this matter for about a week. During this time, they interrogated the controlled individuals and obtained a lot of useful information. A week later, they disguised themselves as "trading" personnel and set off for Northern Myanmar.
