Chapter 517 Collective Karma of the Mortal Realm (36)

Jiang Yuheng initially did not want to participate in their base's defense, but upon thinking that he might see Mr. Shen, whom he hadn't seen for three to four days, he jumped from the second floor and ran over.

No one knew how many types of xenomorphs there were. This was just a general term. In fact, any species they might encounter, whether seen or unseen, or even species that did not exist in this world, could be their enemy.

Looking at the pile of bizarre, ferocious creatures in front of them, completely different from the last time, everyone felt discomfort, both physically and mentally.

The first wave of xenomorphs was similar to the previous ones. Their bodies could still vaguely show their original forms, evolved from animals. Their bodies had undergone replication; some had replicated heads, some forelimbs, some wings. The replicated parts varied in size, making them look like monsters from failed genetic modifications.

They charged forward with no regard for their own safety, and the human forces met them without fear. The frontline ability users tried their best to deal with most of the xenomorphs. Any stragglers or injured but not yet dead ones were shot with guns or killed with knives. With their cooperation, no xenomorph could break through that gate.

Jiang Yuheng discovered they were very experienced in fighting xenomorphs. Most fourth-tier ability users did not act recklessly just because their energy was abundant at the beginning. They used their abilities with precision. For example, Jin Wenye would only stun the xenomorphs, aiming fireballs at vital spots, while ice users would freeze them, and those behind would deliver the finishing blows.

A dozen high-tier ability users, along with some soldiers, could hold a gate. As long as no particularly powerful xenomorph appeared, they wouldn't need any help.

He didn't help, and Shen Chongyan hadn't arrived yet.

Jiang Yuheng felt conflicted for a moment. Without a more powerful xenomorph, Shen Chongyan wouldn't appear. But if he did come, there might be casualties. He wanted to witness the legendary Mr. Shen, who could hold off ten thousand enemies alone, but he didn't want anyone to die because of it.

However, neither of these scenarios was within his control. While he was wrestling with this, he suddenly felt a tremor, the kind of sound made when something heavy crashed to the ground.

Looking up, a xenomorph resembling a black bear spirit, tens or even hundreds of meters tall, was aggressively approaching the base. Its physique was large and robust, its overall color grayish-black. Its body was covered in a thick layer of what looked like knotted fur or scales, making it appear incredibly formidable.

Jin Wenye quickly ordered the ordinary people to retreat and charged towards the giant monster himself. A lightning strike hit the monster, but not its head. The monster roared and stomped down with a foot, nearly crushing Jin Wenye.

Jin Wenye struck its leg again with lightning, this time using more energy. A black burn mark appeared on the xenomorph's leg. The creature shrieked, and that leg suddenly knelt to the ground with a thud. It extended its large claws to grab Jin Wenye, who was trying to fly away.

Jin Wenye was almost swatted away. He leaped with all his might, narrowly dodging the xenomorph's massive claw. Losing control of his body, he fell heavily to the ground.

Other ability users from behind rushed forward to help deal with the xenomorph. Jin Wenye got up from the ground and cooperated with the others to attack the large creature.

Another wave of smaller xenomorphs charged over, greatly dispersing their combat effectiveness. Ordinary people using weapons encountered xenomorph attacks, and soon, some were injured.

"Still not here?" Jiang Yuheng felt a bit puzzled. With things escalating like this, why hadn't Mr. Shen appeared? Was he going to watch these people die?

He joined the battle. Cao Jinman saw him and hurried over, "Why are you here?"

Jiang Yuheng plunged an ice spike into the mutated head of a xenomorph, watching it fall to the ground, incapacitated. Soldiers with guns in the distance shot it in the head, and the xenomorph died irrevocably.

"I came to see the legendary Mr. Shen. He's still not here. Is he waiting until you're all almost dead to appear?"

Cao Jinman was somewhat speechless.

"If it's just this much, we can handle it."

Unfortunately, things soon became more complicated than they imagined. Jin Wenye, who was at the forefront, received distress calls from several other entrances. He looked at the xenomorphs swaying and falling in front of him, with more relentlessly swarming from behind, and felt a headache coming on.

"Team Two, go to Gate Four to help defend. Artillery team, assist Gate Three. Anti-air defense, watch out for aerial xenomorphs!"

Another large wave of xenomorphs surged forward. Among them were a dozen super-sized ones, the tallest potentially exceeding one hundred meters. In the middle was a large xenomorph resembling a lion-tiger, majestic and imposing, looking very difficult to deal with.

The largest xenomorph, like the one they encountered earlier, was covered in black and green pustules from which disgusting pus dripped. As the pustules fell off, smaller xenomorphs crawled out, making one's skin crawl.

"Damn it, so disgusting!"

Jiang Yuheng immediately covered his mouth, afraid he would throw up from disgust.

He placed his hand on the ground, and white frost spread out, freezing all the small xenomorphs that had just fallen to the ground.

However, as an ice-type ability user, using his abilities this way consumed a lot of energy.

He repeated the action a few times and felt his energy being depleted. Just as he was considering making a tactical retreat, a female ability user ran over and handed him a bottle of water. "Spirit spring water to replenish your energy. I'm a water-type ability user. We can cooperate later; I'll sprinkle water, and you freeze them. This way, it's more energy-efficient."

The other person clearly regarded him as a comrade. Jiang Yuheng didn't explain. He opened the bottle and took a large gulp. This spirit spring water was clearly different from the one they got downstairs in the residential building. That one was delicious but its effect was not very noticeable. This one, as soon as he drank it, gave him a feeling of instant power.

While surprised, he also felt it was only natural. The supply of spirit spring water was limited. Ordinary people used it for drinking, and it was good enough to have some. Soldiers needed to replenish their energy with it, and a higher purity was necessary for it to be effective.

He rested for a while, and his energy finally recovered somewhat. The others were ready. He and the female ability user used their abilities simultaneously. A basin of water was poured from the air, drenching most of the small xenomorphs and a few larger ones.

Jiang Yuheng immediately followed up, an icy chill spreading and instantly encasing the xenomorphs in a layer of ice. Taking advantage of the xenomorphs being frozen in place and immobile, the soldiers with guns rushed forward. One soldier with a shotgun fired a shot at the abdomen of the largest xenomorph, creating a large hole.

However, due to its immense size, it was not dead yet. It slowly reached up with its claw to touch the wound on its abdomen, then suddenly roared and charged towards them.

"Run!"

"Damn it!"

The grotesquely-shaped lion-tiger xenomorph rushed in from the side and bit into the waist of an ability user. The ability user screamed. Jin Wenye, snapping back to reality, was about to unleash lightning but hesitated upon seeing the person in its mouth.

"Don't mind me, kill it!"
