Chapter 220: Chapter 186: Not That Outstanding
This isn’t right, is it?
"Uncle?"
When Lin Li tried calling again and saw Chen Zhongping’s face become serious when he looked at him, possibly even glaring, Lin Li understood.
The Chen Family probably inherited the art of face-changing.
But it’s understandable; he brought it on himself. Can’t blame Old Chen for not having a good attitude towards him.
Since being ’targeted’, Lin Li quietly scrolled through his phone all the way, responding occasionally when the two girls behind him spoke.
Every time he spoke, Lin Li felt the gaze from the front seat.
So many witty remarks had to be swallowed regretfully.
Next time, he should ensure the surroundings are safe before messing around, Lin Li regrets his recent long-winded speech.
Bai Bufan’s house is quite far; after more than half an hour, the car finally arrived at his apartment block.
"Lin Li: @Bai Bufan, we’re downstairs. Where are you?"
Seeing no one at the first floor, Lin Li sent a message in the group.
"Bai Bufan: Didn’t you say ten minutes? Why are you here now? I’m still packing, wait a bit."
"Chen Yu Ying: No worries, take your time packing."
Chen Yu Ying doesn’t like making people wait, so she always gives a later expected arrival time. It was the same when they arrived at Lin Li’s house earlier.
"I’ll go up and rush him."
After the car stopped completely, Lin Li felt Chen Zhongping wasn’t watching the road anymore and was spying on him, making him feel uncomfortable staying in the car.
So he might as well visit Bai Bufan’s house, maybe he could find some gold bars or other small items, take full advantage.
Chen Yu Ying and Ding Sihan had no objections, so Lin Li went up alone.
Bai Bufan had already shared his exact location, including his apartment number, in the group.
"Knock knock knock." Once he reached by elevator, Lin Li knocked on the door.
The door was opened by a woman, presumably Bai Bufan’s mom.
"Hello Auntie, I’m Lin Li, Bufan’s classmate." Lin Li nodded politely and bowed slightly.
"Ah, hello hello, you’re here early! Bufan just woke up and is freshening up, come in first, here are some slippers for you." Mrs. Bai was very warm and welcoming.
If only Old Chen were this friendly, or the few hours left of the journey wouldn’t be so arduous.
Lin Li walked into the bathroom to meet eyes with Bai Bufan, who was brushing his teeth, dressed in pajamas and shorts.
Bai Bufan was a bit awkward: "Haha, hello, I’m Venom."
"Weren’t you packing? Why just woke up? Looks like you got up after seeing my message?" Lin Li smirked without genuine amusement.
"I’m packing myself, am I not part of the stuff?" Bai Bufan chuckled.
"Playing dumb, you little rascal, tell me Buffan, what kind of wise guy are you?" Lin Li’s expression was doting, but his words carried a slight jab.
Bai Bufan: "..."
"I’m almost ready, just need to change clothes after washing up, packed my things last night, didn’t expect you all to be early. Justice is always delayed, why can’t I sleep ten more minutes?"
Bai Bufan felt a bit aggrieved.
Lin Li: "..."
Bringing justice into oversleeping, Bai Bufan sure has a way.
After rinsing his mouth, Bai Bufan hastily wiped his face and headed to the bedroom.
Lin Li followed him.
Neat and tidy.
—Except that it has nothing to do with Bai Bufan’s bedroom.
As everyone knows, dirty clothes in the washing machine, clean clothes in the closet, and those in-between clothes just go on the chair next to the bed, while Bai Bufan’s bedroom chair was bearing weights it shouldn’t at this age.
"Weren’t you told to finish homework these days, why is it all blank?" Lin Li wandered around, touching and probing, noticed the blank homework on the desk, and teased.
"No way, I tried, but just after one problem my phone got jealous, had to appease it for three hours. With such a phone, what can I do?"
Bai Bufan, in the middle of changing clothes, explained helplessly.
"Lin Li, you must know, a phone’s lifespan is 3 to 5 years, but human lifespan is 70 to 100 years. Phones are just a passersby in humans’ lives, but for phones, humans are their entire lives, so I mustn’t neglect it, must spend more time with it."
"Didn’t expect you to be so sentimental." Lin Li was moved, touched by his words.
"Yes, yes."
Lin Li: "Then why get a new phone? Your old one still has life, being so sentimental, I’ll help you deal with the new one when it arrives."
"No, that’s another matter completely, isn’t there a possibility I’m devoted to the harem philosophy?" Bai Bufan immediately corrected.
Lin Li responded with a scornful laugh.
After changing clothes, Bai Bufan carried the suitcase that was ready in the living room, and went to change shoes at the entrance.
"Auntie, we’re leaving." Seeing Mrs. Bai sitting on the living room sofa, Lin Li bade farewell.
"Leaving? Take some fruits for the road." Mrs. Bai immediately got up, grabbed some oranges from the coffee table, and handed them to Lin Li.
"No need, thank you, Auntie, the car’s fully stocked, we’ve got everything. Thanks anyway." Lin Li said.
"Such a good, polite kid, if only Bufan were more like you." Mrs. Bai nodded contently at Lin Li.
While bending over to change shoes, Bai Bufan halted his movement, looked at his mother through his legs: "Huh?"
Is this even human language?
Good? Polite?
If one day he really was like Lin Li, their house would probably start anew.
"Lin Li? Sensible and polite? Mom, your misunderstanding of him is too deep, he’s even more me than I am!" Bai Bufan couldn’t stand his mom praising Lin Li, he immediately undermined.
"How dare you curse!" Mrs. Bai frowned.
Bai Bufan: "..."
Geez, mom’s words are hurtful.
"Lin Li, you must be very good at home, right?" Mrs. Bai asked Lin Li.
"Not particularly good." Lin Li shook his head.
Bai Bufan snorted, acknowledging Lin Li’s honesty.
"I usually linger in bed until around four or five in the morning, after making breakfast for the family, I take at least an hour of rest, then do laundry and mop the floor. At noon, I usually give my mom a simple massage..." Lin Li continued to describe.
"Just earlier, we debated who’s cleaning the house with my mom."
Out in the world, identity is self-given.
Bai Bufan couldn’t believe what he heard.
Because he’s been in the rain, should he tear his umbrella too?
Seeing his mom’s gaze towards Lin Li getting more pleased while her look towards him got more distasteful, Bai Bufan hurriedly pulled Lin Li away, whispering: "Shut it! Shut it! Come on! Don’t keep them waiting!"
After the elevator doors closed and the first floor was selected, Bai Bufan suddenly pressed the open door button and intended to go outside.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Li asked in confusion.
"I forgot the pocket money by my bed; too troublesome to deposit seventy to eighty bucks in the bank, useless at home, just like waste paper, gotta spend it." Bai Bufan explained.
"Unnecessary, spend it next time, they’ve been waiting quite a few minutes already." Lin Li held Bai Bufan’s arm, signaling time was of the essence.
"My house is right here, getting my mom to fetch it takes less than thirty seconds, how much time can it waste." Bai Bufan emphasized.
"Oh, honestly, can’t do anything about you, already got them for you, here." Sighing, Lin Li got those scattered bills out from his pocket, handing them to Bai Bufan.
"Eh? Thanks." After seeing they really were his bedside money, Bai Bufan happily accepted.
The elevator doors closed, beginning to descend.
"Wait."
Bai Bufan realized something and turned, pressing his forehead against Lin Li’s:
"Why is my money in your pocket?"
"Obviously I foresaw you’d forget, surely can’t be I wanted to take them, right? Impossible, I wouldn’t do such a thing." Lin Li answered innocently.
"You only took the money, right?"
Lin Li stepped back and nodded hard: "Yes."
Bai Bufan squinted, reached into Lin Li’s pockets, felt familiar items, revealing a relaxed smile, voice turning cold:
"What’s the hell is this?"
"My lucky fidget spinner."
"What the hell is this?"
"My lucky nail clipper."
"What’s the hell is this?"
"My genuine Xiling chicken roll, in abstinence, stop meddling."
"Damn he’s right! Are you wearing crotchless pants?" Bai Bufan flinched, then hysterically pressed the elevator’s sanitizing alcohol.
"Just kidding, it’s actually your bedside corndog, hehe."
"...Damn it!"
