Chapter 238: Chapter 198: Wonderful, Lin Li Is Going to Become a Pillar
Prejudice is a mountain impossible to transverse.
But Lin Li quickly noticed that Chen Yu Ying’s expression while saying this was teasing.
Turns out, it was intentional.
Then it’s okay. In that case, any mountain is just a piece of cake for Lin Li.
Rat poison can kill rats, so just feed the mountain some yam, and the mountain will behave.
If Yu Gong had had Lin Li’s intelligence back then, he wouldn’t have needed generations to move mountains. He was like an Old Deng with heirs, who didn’t need to worry about marrying and having kids, but what about future generations?
Yu Gong’s grandson, after hearing his grandfather’s vow, probably started apologizing to his younger brother, saying, "Sorry, bro, you’re probably gonna be stuck for life."
"It’s a pity that you obviously had the chance to have freshly made breakfast on-site, but now you can only have takeout. That’s not stealing a bike." But you still have to go through the motions, Lin Li shrugged helplessly.
"Is this bike rented, or did you buy it?" Chen Yu Ying leaned in closer, looked at the electric bike for a while, and curiously asked.
Today’s electric bike was much smaller and looked fresher compared to the delivery bike Lin Li used before, without the big thermal box at the back.
Riding it was much more comfortable, naturally a choice Lin Li made.
"I’m not Chen Yu Ying, of course it’s rented." Lin Li responded as if it were obvious.
Hearing her name from Lin Li instead of "class monitor" was still a novelty for Chen Yu Ying, causing her to blush inexplicably and give Lin Li a playful glare.
"Why rent an electric bike?" she asked.
"Aren’t we going out today? We can’t really ask uncle to take us, right? It wouldn’t feel right. Having an adult around means we can’t have as much fun, and even if we kept him waiting, it would be time-restricted. So, it’s not as good as taking a cab. But with five people, we’d need two cabs, isn’t that wasteful?
So after my morning workout, I went to a nearby electric bike shop and rented this electric bike. That way, we only need one cab, and with an extra transportation option, any small issue can be resolved differently."
Lin Li explained.
The core reason, actually, is that no matter how fluently Chen Yu Ying learns to ride a bicycle, the task won’t progress at all. Lin Li’s ultimate goal in teaching her is to have her learn the electric bike.
The electric bike is the real mecha.
But what he said was indeed a secondary reason.
"Seems like that,"
Although it didn’t feel particularly necessary, Lin Li had already rented it; what’s done is done. It’s meant to have fun when going out, and it’s a harmless matter. So, with a smile, Chen Yu Ying nodded her approval to Lin Li.
Lin Li felt very satisfied, his lips curving up.
They chatted at the doorway for a while, and in just a few minutes, the delivery person arrived with the breakfast Chen Yu Ying ordered.
After Lin Li took it, the two returned to the first floor of the homestay.
Chen Yu Ying leisurely ate her breakfast on the sofa, while Lin Li brought the bicycle, which he had already washed and tested in the morning, outside the homestay.
"Class monitor, did you bring socks that cover your ankles?" Lin Li asked upon returning, looking at Chen Yu Ying.
"I did, why?" Chen Yu Ying had brought both sandals near the entrance and a pair of sneakers.
"Give them to me for a moment." Lin Li snapped his fingers and held out his hand.
Three seconds later, Lin Li stared widened eyes, feeling hurt as he questioned Chen Yu Ying, "Why are you looking at me like that, class monitor? It’s hurting my feelings. I’ll modify them a bit and return them right away."
"Oh." She replied weakly, going up and down the stairs.
Soon, Lin Li wrapped an ’armband’ around the sock cuffs, taped them together simply, and handed them back.
"What’s this for?" she asked.
"I’m worried about your feet getting tangled in the bike pedals if you panic, and since the ankle and knee are the most vulnerable spots during a fall, having this double protection will save us some trouble," Lin Li explained.
Many people have scars on their ankles, mostly from getting caught while riding a bike.
"Oh, I see." Chen Yu Ying nodded.
Occasionally, Lin Li’s attentiveness is unfamiliar.
"Too bad neither of us brought stockings; otherwise, we could cover both your ankles and knees—two birds with one stone. It’s a pity." Lin Li sighed.
Chen Yu Ying: "..."
Familiar now.
"What could thin stockings possibly protect, and covering ankles and knees is only two wishes, right?" she questioned.
Lin Li gave her a condescending look and replied instantly, "Because the third wish is to see you wearing them, class monitor."
Chen Yu Ying: "..."
Now it’s unmistakably familiar.
"By the way, class monitor, even though I prefer black stockings, I’d accept white, yellow, green, pink, or purple as well." Lin Li continued his cheeky banter.
"I only have white ones; black ones are too embarrassing. Plus, I’m not wearing them for you. No color will change that." Lin Li was looking up at the ceiling, so despite the conversation topic, Chen Yu Ying didn’t feel uncomfortable.
When Lin Li’s words go too far, his behavior becomes unusually restrained.
That’s a ’good’ way to be cheeky.
Managing his cheeky remarks so as not to be genuinely disliked.
Taking a bite of toast, she threw the remaining slices to Lin Li, saying, "I’m full. There are two more slices; you can have them."
Lin Li caught them steadily, "I had a hearty breakfast, too, but since you insist, I’ll keep them for the dog."
