Yu Mengzhi’s expression was flustered.
Chen Jinzhao was really something, always bringing up things that reminded her of the madness of those two nights.
She glanced inadvertently at the bed in the bedroom but chuckled, "Your shoddy wooden bed, won't it collapse after a few days? I said, you still don't meet my requirements."
"To be precise, it should be the Yu family's requirements."
Chen Jinzhao originally wanted to tease Yu Mengzhi, but instead, he was teased back. He could only change the subject, "President Yu, why don't you stay for dinner?"
"You can cook?" Yu Mengzhi was surprised.
Chen Jinzhao laughed, "President Yu, what are you joking about? If I couldn't cook, wouldn't I have starved to death long ago?"
Yu Mengzhi glanced at the time. It was indeed lunchtime, so she nodded almost unconsciously, "Alright, I'll see how your skills are."
Chen Jinzhao took his phone and went downstairs to buy groceries outside the community. Yu Mengzhi stood with her arms crossed, scanning the room.
Her gaze was drawn to the photos on the wall. Besides a few photos of Chen Jinzhao and his mother, most of them were of him and his comrades. In these photos, Chen Jinzhao wore a military uniform, and his sword-like eyebrows and sharp eyes exuded a formidable heroic aura. Yu Mengzhi looked surprised, finding it difficult to reconcile the heroic non-commissioned officer in the photos with the scoundrel-like security guard in reality.
"Strange..."
"After a non-commissioned officer transfers out, they are usually assigned to public institutions. Why would he end up as a security guard?" For the first time, Yu Mengzhi felt a hint of curiosity about Chen Jinzhao's background.
Just curiosity, nothing more.
Not long after.
Chen Jinzhao returned home with the groceries. He saw Yu Mengzhi sitting on the sofa with her eyes closed, resting. He didn't disturb her and started cooking.
Yu Mengzhi heard the commotion from the kitchen and walked in to watch Chen Jinzhao cook.
Admittedly.
Chen Jinzhao really had some skills.
After half an hour of busy work, four dishes and one soup were neatly arranged on the dining table.
Yu Mengzhi’s beautiful eyes sparkled with delight. After tasting a small bite, her eyes lit up, "Your cooking is really good, better than my housekeeper's. I never expected you to know these things."
"This is not difficult. It's easy to learn if you're willing to learn," Chen Jinzhao said.
"You, a pampered young master born with a silver spoon, probably don't even know all the grains. Asking you to cook is really difficult for you."
Yu Mengzhi: "..."
This lunch was unusually quiet, with only occasional words exchanged at the dining table.
Yu Mengzhi found Chen Jinzhao's cooking to be very much to her taste. She couldn't help but take an extra bowl of rice, which earned her a strange look from Chen Jinzhao, making her feel quite awkward.
After lunch.
Chen Jinzhao escorted Yu Mengzhi downstairs and watched her drive away.
The scenery outside the car window receded. Yu Mengzhi was in a particularly good mood, humming a little tune in the car.
Speaking of which.
She hadn't felt this happy for a long time.
Yu Mengzhi even thought about asking Chen Jinzhao to cook for her again next time she had the chance. This was the human warmth she yearned for. Thinking of this, Yu Mengzhi shook her head again.
What was wrong with her?
Why did Chen Jinzhao's figure keep appearing in her mind uncontrollably?
Could it be...
She had fallen for this security guard?
Yu Mengzhi was startled by this somewhat wild thought and quickly collected her thoughts, not wanting to dwell on it. They were ultimately people from two different worlds.
Friends were fine, but partners were not.
In the rental apartment.
Chen Jinzhao lay on the bed, taking a nap. The figures of Yu Mengzhi and Xu Nianqing occasionally flickered in his mind. He even compared the two, something every man had fantasized about.
Even Chen Jinzhao was not immune.
It was hard to say who was better. The one who suited him was the best.
Xu Nianqing had abandoned Chen Jinzhao before and was now on the verge of marriage. Chen Jinzhao had already given up any thoughts in that direction.
Perhaps it was due to his damned machismo that Chen Jinzhao often thought of Yu Mengzhi.
Muzzy, Chen Jinzhao fell asleep.
When he woke up again, it was already past five in the afternoon. Rays of dusk filtered through the mottled glass window, casting onto Chen Jinzhao's lazy face in the small bedroom.
The setting sun is beautiful, but it heralds the coming dusk.
Every time he woke up from a nap, Chen Jinzhao felt a deep sense of loneliness in his chest. He glanced at his lifeless chat app again, and the loneliness intensified and surged.
Chen Jinzhao washed his face, and his mind cleared up.
On his way downstairs to eat outside the community, a figure covered in excess flesh blocked his path, making Chen Jinzhao impatient.
However, when he saw the other person's face clearly, his anger disappeared.
"Liang Zhichao, why is it you?" Chen Jinzhao was surprised.
Liang Zhichao was Chen Jinzhao's high school classmate. Chen Jinzhao was the class monitor back then and knew every student in the class like the back of his hand.
For example, Liang Zhichao before him was a sports-major student who later went to a northern sports institute. However, Chen Jinzhao later heard that Liang Zhichao dropped out of school before completing his studies.
He didn't expect to run into Liang Zhichao here.
Liang Zhichao shook his excess flesh and chuckled, "Chen Jinzhao, long time no see. I heard that you, the top student, also dropped out and are now working as a security guard at a pharmaceutical company?"
The contempt in his words made Chen Jinzhao uncomfortable.
Chen Jinzhao casually replied a few words and then planned to leave. Liang Zhichao, however, blocked his path again, "Chen Jinzhao, come with me. We haven't seen each other for so many years, we should catch up."
"Sorry, I don't have time." Chen Jinzhao politely refused.
Liang Zhichao immediately became displeased and frowned, "So, you're not going to give me face?"
Chen Jinzhao remained silent, his brow furrowed.
Any normal person would dislike this way of speaking. Liang Zhichao, seeing that Chen Jinzhao didn't speak, continued to speak sarcastically, "What are you pretending to be a big shot for? You and I are both dropouts, and now you're a stinky security guard, what's so great about that? Your big brother here is the lobby manager of a certain club, earning over ten thousand a month!"
"I'm inviting you over out of respect."
"Chen, are you really ungrateful?"
Chen Jinzhao narrowed his eyes and stared at Liang Zhichao, realizing that a dog couldn't change its ways. "If you have something to say, say it here. I'll leave when we're done."
It was evident that Liang Zhichao had come specifically to cause trouble for him.
However, Chen Jinzhao couldn't understand why Liang Zhichao harbored such great hostility towards him after so many years of not seeing each other.
Liang Zhichao snorted through his nostrils, his chin slightly raised, "It's not convenient to talk here. Just tell me if you're coming or not. If you don't, don't blame your old classmate for taking action. Then neither of us will look good."
"Be sensible, don't force me to slap you."
