Chapter 13: Emotional Depression

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Emotional Depression

"Waiting for you." Serena Yeats blurted out instinctively.

"Sorry, I had something come up, it took a little longer." Elias Lancaster understood; she was concerned about his promise to have dinner together.

"It’s okay." Serena Yeats shook her head, "Uncle, did you have lunch?"

"I ate after arriving at the company this afternoon." Elias Lancaster said gently.

Serena Yeats’s mood was noticeably better compared to the morning.

After dinner, Elias Lancaster still held her hand as they walked around the villa for a stroll.

After returning, once she had freshened up, Elias Lancaster dried her hair and found she had already fallen asleep.

Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, Elias Lancaster’s lips curled slightly, his expression gentle as water.

He gently lifted her, placed her onto the bed, covered her with a blanket, and kissed her forehead.

The next day.

Serena Yeats arrived at school full of energy, and she was focused in class, understanding everything. But when it was time for lunch...

Ever since the day she got sick, things hadn’t improved; her pregnancy symptoms worsened with each passing day.

Half a month had passed, and she couldn’t bear any smell, even the scent of meat. Anything with a hint of grease made her violently nauseous.

At home, it was manageable as she didn’t have to worry.

But at school, it was different, she still had classes, with so many people watching.

Many times, catching even a whiff of something, she couldn’t hold back and rushed to the restroom to throw up in front of so many classmates.

Her appetite had decreased, she ate only to vomit, and her whole body was getting thinner, her spirits deteriorating.

Now it was even worse, she couldn’t even tolerate the slightest smell in the restroom.

Completely disregarding everything else, zoning out in class, her energy not what it used to be.

She understood very well that she wasn’t fit to continue school, she needed to rest, but she just didn’t want to give up, she wanted to try hard.

Elias Lancaster watched her pregnancy symptoms worsen, unable to eat or sleep well, and frequently vomited as if she were dying, his heart ached.

He hadn’t expected that bearing a child would cause her such suffering, and he even had thoughts of not having the child.

Obviously, everything was fine before, why had it become so severe suddenly?

Elias Lancaster went to pick up Serena Yeats from school, holding her thin hand, seeing her pale face and lack of energy only made his heart ache more.

He said nothing and drove her home.

Serena Yeats felt down, called him Uncle, and then fell silent.

Today, at school, she had vomited bile, it was particularly painful, tears streamed down.

During her midday rest in the dormitory, she overheard Katherine Sinclair and Phoebe Collins subtly speaking about her selling herself.

This worsened Serena Yeats’s already bad mood.

Serena Yeats barely ate two bites at dinner, and then vomited it all.

Sitting on the bed, lost in thought.

Wondering if deciding to keep the child was right or wrong.

Thinking about herself being just a tool for birthing.

Old Madam Lancaster visited once and hadn’t returned, only being nice for the baby in her belly.

Nanny Livingston and the servants were respectful, also for the baby in her belly.

Uncle decided to date her because she was pregnant with his child.

Without the child, would this kindness and respect disappear?

No one would care for her, love her.

Even her own parents who raised her don’t love her.

Her biological parents abandoned her, but why give birth to her if they didn’t want her?

Thinking and thinking, tears fell; she couldn’t help but think of these unpleasant things lately.

She knew it wasn’t good, but she couldn’t stop her thoughts.

The more she thought, the more aggrieved she felt, tears kept falling.

Elias Lancaster entered the room and saw her small figure sitting on the bed, hugging her knees, eyes red from crying.

His heart tightened, he hurried forward, held her, "Why are you crying? Who bullied you?"

Serena Yeats shook her head, "Uncle, I’m fine, just in a bad mood, always throwing up, feeling uncomfortable."

Elias Lancaster tenderly held her, softly soothing her.

He realized things couldn’t go on like this; the risk of depression in pregnant women was higher than average, her mood had been like this which worried him.

Afterward, Elias Lancaster called the doctor, who confirmed her emotions were indeed very depressed lately.

"Serena, is anyone at school bullying you?" Elias Lancaster asked gently.

"No." Serena Yeats lowered her head, "Lately I don’t feel well, always nauseous, sleepy, can’t understand lessons, feel exhausted."

"How about we take a break from school and focus on your pregnancy at home?" Elias Lancaster suggested tentatively.

However, as soon as Serena Yeats heard about the break, she reacted strongly, "No way, I can’t take a break, I don’t want to take a break."

A break means she’d graduate a year later, she didn’t want that.

She became like this because of him, because he said he was infertile.

Due to the two little ones in her belly, she didn’t eat well, sleep well, felt unwell, and became like this.

But now, the man was trying to strip her right to study.

Tyrannical!

Serena Yeats felt aggrieved, her life seemed meaningless.

No freedom here, no freedom at home, and at school, she was called a whore...

The more she thought about those horrible words, her tears fell uncontrollably.

She didn’t want to cry but... but...

The semester was nearly halfway over, she didn’t want to miss classes, couldn’t miss classes, she wanted to study hard, to gain more wealth in the future.

Seeing her tears fall again, Elias Lancaster felt a surge of panic.

"Serena, don’t cry, you want to study, don’t you?"

Serena Yeats looked at him with tearful eyes, neither nodding nor shaking her head.

But from her clenched fists and expectant eyes, it was clear, she wanted to study.

But her current situation was not good, what if....

Elias Lancaster patiently explained, "However, your current state isn’t suitable for attending school."

Seeing those tears, Elias Lancaster felt aching, sighed helplessly.

"Darling, I’m not saying you can’t study, how about this? You can attend for now, if you find it too difficult, we’ll take leave, think it over carefully, okay?"

Serena Yeats nodded.

Today was exhausting, the relentless pregnancy symptoms, and the roommates’ humiliation.

Her brain was unable to function, she just wanted to sleep.

Soon, she fell asleep in Elias Lancaster’s arms, indeed tired from crying.

Looking at her sleeping figure, Elias Lancaster felt a pang in his heart. He wished she would rest well at home, it would be better for her health.
