Chapter 333: Chapter 334: Half-Finished or Failed Product
"Leave. I’ll handle the rest." Enrod’s voice was chilling. He advanced step by step, his long katana glinting, its sharp blade reflecting the red light of the alarm.
Hearing Enrod’s command, the remaining four guards turned and ran. As for the three remaining researchers, they had already fled.
The Demonic Lizard didn’t pursue the retreating figures. Instead, it slowly turned, watching Enrod warily. It possessed intelligence and could sense the dangerous aura emanating from Enrod, thus it dared not move.
Clank~ Clatter~
To prevent the Demonic Lizard’s escape, the metal walls on both sides closed, and the metal door shut. Only Enrod and the Demonic Lizard remained in the plaza.
"A beast will always be a beast; it still loves to betray its master," Enrod’s pace quickened as he charged toward the Demonic Lizard. From over ten meters away, Enrod swung his blade.
The sword light was like lightning, its edge piercingly cold. The Demonic Lizard, sensing danger, swiftly dodged to the side.
Splurt~
Blood splattered. A section of tail spun in mid-air before falling to the ground. Simultaneously, a deep cut appeared on the metal wall behind the Demonic Lizard. Enrod’s strike had not only severed the Demonic Lizard’s tail but also left a crack in the metal wall.
Hiss!
The Demonic Lizard was startled. It hissed at Enrod while its bleeding tail began to retract from the wound, stopping the blood flow. Then, countless granulations rapidly grew, and its tail quickly regenerated at a visible speed. Following this, the Demonic Lizard’s figure began to fade, soon vanishing from its spot.
"You think I can’t find you just because you’re invisible?" Enrod scoffed, then immediately raised his hand and slashed to the left.
A white light flashed.
Splurt~
Blood scattered in the empty space, leaving stains on the ground.
Thump!
A large figure appeared in mid-air, falling heavily to the ground. The Demonic Lizard’s front right leg had been severed.
"Let’s see you regenerate this time." Enrod brandished his long katana continuously, its gleam flashing like white lightning.
Splurt! Splurt! Splurt!
The next moment, fine red lines appeared on the Demonic Lizard’s remaining three legs. Then, the lines widened, and all four of the Demonic Lizard’s legs were completely severed.
"Your swordsmanship has improved quite a bit," a glint appeared in Oliver’s eyes.
Hiss!
In intense pain, the Demonic Lizard thrashed and rolled on the ground. The wounds on its four severed limbs frantically contracted, and countless granulations rapidly grew.
"It can regenerate even from this?" Enrod exclaimed in surprise.
No sooner had he spoken than a wound suddenly ripped open on the Demonic Lizard’s body. Following that, dozens of large and small wounds tore open across the Demonic Lizard, large amounts of foul-smelling blood gushing out. The pain was so intense the Demonic Lizard couldn’t even hiss weakly.
"No!"
Just as Enrod was dumbfounded, Switch Dalt in the room cried out.
Sizzle~
Wisps of blue smoke emanated from the Demonic Lizard’s body. Within a few breaths, the Demonic Lizard’s body went limp, transforming into a pile of extremely pungent, foul-smelling rotting flesh. The formidable appearance of the Demonic Lizard was completely gone; it was utterly unrecognizable as any creature.
"Genetic collapse!"
This term flashed through Aeridar’s and Vade’s minds.
Subsequently, the metal door reopened, and more than ten masked researchers in white lab coats, along with dozens of guards carrying various weapons, flooded in.
Enrod also put on a mask and followed a researcher out to clean himself, to avoid any potential infection.
"Let’s go, to Dalt’s place." Aeridar waved his hand and led the way toward Switch Dalt’s location.
Creak~
Aeridar pushed the door open and entered.
"Captain Aeridar!"
"Your Majesty!"
"Oh~ Captain, you’re here."
Everyone in the room looked at the entering Aeridar in surprise, calling out to him.
"I saw the experiment just now. That thing was good, even though it failed. Keep up the good work." Aeridar glanced around and nodded at everyone.
"Can you tell me how many types of genes that thing had?" Vade asked impatiently.
"And this is...?" Dalt looked at Aeridar.
"Oh, this is Mechanic Vade-san, a renowned great scientist in mechanics and physics, our newly joined partner." Aeridar patted his head, pointing at Vade as he introduced him.
Then, Aeridar pointed at Dalt and said, "This is Switch Dalt, my chief scientist."
"Mechanic Vade!"
"Switch Dalt!"
Dalt and Vade both looked at each other in surprise. Clearly, both of them had heard of each other’s names, as both were world-renowned criminals.
"Welcome, welcome! Let me tell you, that Demonic Lizard was cultivated by me using the venomous lizards found only on this island." Dalt excitedly pulled Vade aside, gesticulating as he explained, "This venomous lizard naturally possesses a certain degree of regenerative ability and its own potent venom. When it was young, I successively fused it with the genes of six other creatures: venomous pythons, chameleons, stegosauruses, tyrannosauruses, octopuses, and gorillas. That’s why it not only has multifaceted vision but also the heat-sensing vision of a python. Its forked tongue is used to gather information from its surroundings. Moreover, it’s a cold-blooded animal, and its scales can not only block scents and heat signatures but also alter light refraction, creating an invisibility effect."
"The stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus genes provided strong limbs and sharp teeth and claws. The octopus genes enhanced its regenerative abilities and allowed the other genes to perfectly fuse together. As for the gorilla genes, in addition to strengthening its agility alongside the venomous python genes, they are likely the source of its high intelligence. I still need to research this further."
"No wonder the golden giant python couldn’t find it when it went invisible. Do you have any theories about the cause of this genetic collapse?" Vade asked with an almost feverish expression. Clearly, Dalt’s research had ignited the scientific passion in his heart. Although their respective fields of study were vastly different, hearing Dalt’s words sparked a new idea in his mind.
"I suspect it’s still due to genetic conflict. Although its regenerative ability forcibly fused multiple genes, it wasn’t perfect. So, after multiple injuries and regenerations, it lost too much blood and couldn’t continue to suppress the other genes, leading to the genetic collapse," Dalt pondered, stroking his stubbled chin as he replied.
"Is there a solution?" Aeridar asked.
The full name of Project 03 was: Artificial Biological Weapon Project! It aimed to create an artificial, controllable killing weapon, somewhat similar to the World Government’s Pacifistas. However, Pacifistas were semi-biological, semi-mechanical artificial weapons, whereas the Demonic Lizard was entirely a biological weapon, a true killing machine.
Ahem... however, the current Demonic Lizard was merely a half-finished product, or rather, a failed one.
