Chapter 147: Chapter 27 Uncle Sun, we’re even now oh_2
The mother-in-law spoke at the opportune moment, then began piling more food into Sun Dasheng’s bowl.
"That’s enough, Auntie, you’re being too kind. My bowl is already full," Sun Dasheng said, hastily lifting his bowl to dodge her chopsticks.
After dinner, the women went to clean up the dishes and cutlery while the men sat on the sofa chatting. Of course, Yang Xintian was not among the women clearing the table. Instead of sitting with her father, she plunked herself down right beside Sun Dasheng.
"Tian Tian, that’s rude. Come sit over here with Daddy, you’re crowding Uncle Sun," Yang Fei said, gesturing for his daughter to come over.
His words had no effect on her. "I’m just absorbing some of Uncle Sun’s wealthy aura. I’ll bring it home and pass it on to you, Dad."
Her comment made the others chuckle.
"Dad, I bet you don’t know this, but Uncle Sun lives in the same residential complex as us," Yang Xintian announced.
"Oh? What a coincidence?" Yang Fei said, surprised.
"Yes, I only purchased the property recently," Sun Dasheng confirmed with a nod.
Yang Fei maintained a calm expression, but inwardly, he was sizing up his brother-in-law’s old classmate. Just how rich is this man? Our family had to sell our old house in the city when the market was hot, and even then, we had to take out a leveraged loan to afford this place. We’re not considered particularly wealthy, just about average for a Shanghai City native. But this guy... he dared to spend a fortune on a villa when the market is in a downturn. That’s impossible unless he has an incredibly deep pocket.
"What’s your house number? Since we’re neighbors, we should visit each other more often," Yang Fei said.
Before Sun Dasheng could even open his mouth, Yang Fei’s daughter spilled the beans.
"Dad, Uncle Sun lives in Villa Number 1."
"Oh? You mean the ’King Villa’ right in the center? That must have cost over a hundred million, right?" Yang Fei exclaimed, stunned by his financial power. I tried my best to overestimate him, but I still ended up underestimating him. "Just the down payment would have been thirty or forty million, wouldn’t it? That’s enough to buy our villa outright!" he remarked with a sigh.
"Dad, you still don’t get it. Uncle Sun bought his house in cash. There was no down payment," Yang Xintian said, delivering another small shock to her father.
Yang Fei was at a loss for words. Nowadays, anyone who can casually drop a hundred million in cash for a house isn’t just rich; they’re super-rich. ’Fucking rich.’ The words felt too vulgar, so he swallowed them before they could escape.
"What hundred million?" the mother-in-law’s sharp ears perked up. She had just finished tidying up the kitchen and returned to the living room, only to overhear a phrase that struck a sensitive nerve.
"Mom, Tian Tian was saying that Uncle Sun bought a villa in our complex, paying in full with cash. It’s the biggest one in the center, the King Villa you went to see," her son, Yang Fei, explained.
"Hmm," she nodded at her son’s words, but then something felt off. Paid in full?
"He bought it for a hundred million in cash?" she asked, her throat suddenly dry.
Even for a long-time resident of Old Shanghai City like her, she had never seen such a large sum of money. Many natives of Old Shanghai City have assets that look substantial on paper, but that’s mostly from receiving several properties during demolitions, their net worth inflating along with soaring real estate prices. They might all be worth tens of millions, but if you asked them to produce cash, they’d struggle to scrape together even one million. So, the thought of buying a house for a hundred million in cash was a huge shock.
At that moment, her gaze on Sun Dasheng grew even more fervent. She began wondering if there were any suitable single women among her relatives. A connection like this would be a huge boon for their family. It was a pity she only had one daughter, otherwise... If only he could be my son-in-law, how wonderful that would be.
"Dear," the mother-in-law called out to her husband. "Didn’t your old army buddy send you that Da Hong Pao tea? Hurry up and bring it out for our honored guest."
Soon, she personally brought over a steaming cup of Da Hong Pao tea.
Sun Dasheng accepted it politely. "You’re too kind. I rarely drink tea, so I can’t really tell the good from the bad. Such fine tea is wasted on me; it’s like a cow chewing on a peony."
"Not a waste, not a waste at all! This tea is reserved for honored guests like you. My husband is reluctant to drink it himself, and letting it sit there would be the real waste," the mother-in-law said, her enthusiasm almost over the top.
"Da Sheng, I heard from Qian Zhi that you’re divorced and haven’t remarried, is that right?" she asked.
"Yes," Sun Dasheng replied, taking a sip of tea and setting the cup down on the coffee table.
"I’ve got a few nice nieces, perhaps I could introduce you..."
She hadn’t even finished speaking when her daughter, Yang Meina, cut her off.
"Mom, you just love playing matchmaker. President Sun is a successful man; do you really think he’s short on female company? Does he need you to set him up?"
In the family, only her daughter, who shared a similar temperament, dared to interrupt her like that.
However, her daughter’s words were also a wake-up call. President Sun is young, rich, and handsome. Even though he’s divorced and single, he surely doesn’t lack for female companionship. Trying to play matchmaker for him now would just be obnoxious.
At her daughter’s words, she just chuckled awkwardly and dropped the subject.
"Da Sheng, I’m sorry about that. That’s just how my mom is," Yang Meina said apologetically.
"It’s no big deal. Auntie meant well," Sun Dasheng replied, unperturbed.
After chatting for a while longer, Sun Dasheng felt the drinks catching up to him and needed to use the restroom. He asked where it was, and Qian Zhi quickly stood up to lead the way. Unfortunately, the restroom in the living room was occupied. It was the father-in-law; he had a bad stomach and had just gone in.
Qian Zhi then led him to the master bedroom door.
"There’s another restroom inside. I won’t go in with you. Just go straight, and you’ll see it," he said before turning to leave.
Sun Dasheng pushed the door open, closing it behind him. His need was urgent, and he crossed the room in a few quick strides.
