Chapter 120: Chapter 18: The Iceberg Beauty Si Ruoqi_4
On New Year’s Eve, practically no one visits other people’s homes. Everyone is busy with their own affairs. Of course, there is one exception: the card rooms. After the reunion dinner, those places are bustling with activity. But at Sun Dasheng’s house, nobody was into that sort of thing, so naturally, no one came over to invite them for a game.
"Who is it?" Sun Dasheng asked as he opened the door.
A woman stood on the doorstep, completely bundled up. Her face was obscured by a thick hat and a mask, but judging by her figure, she was young.
When the woman remained silent, Sun Dasheng asked, "Are you here for my parents?"
The woman shook her head. "I’m here for you."
"For me?" Sun Dasheng pointed at himself in surprise. "Do we know each other?"
At his question, the woman removed her mask and hat, revealing a cool, detached face.
Huh! Isn’t this Aunt Li’s daughter, the one I just saw a few days ago? What was her name again?
"Hello," Sun Dasheng said. "What can I do for you on New Year’s Eve?"
She didn’t seem annoyed that he had forgotten her name. Instead, she extended her hand. "Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Si Ruoqi."
"Si Ruoqi, hello." Sun Dasheng reached out his own hand, about to introduce himself in turn.
But she was quicker. "I know you’re Sun Dasheng."
Ugh! You’re a real master of small talk. How am I supposed to respond to that?
"Aren’t you going to invite me in?" Si Ruoqi took the initiative. Before Sun Dasheng could react, she sidled past him into the house.
She walked over to the shoe cabinet in the entryway and asked, "Do I need to change my shoes? Are there any slippers I can wear?"
"Well, you don’t need to..."
Before Sun Dasheng could finish, she had already found a pair of slippers and was putting them on. She made herself right at home, completely unabashed.
"Da Sheng, who is it?" Madam Xie called out from inside.
"Mom, you should come out and see for yourself," Sun Dasheng said, deciding to pass the trouble on to his mother.
Sensing something was amiss in his tone, Madam Xie poked her head out of the kitchen. When she saw who it was, she slapped her thigh in dismay.
What is this girl doing here? And on New Year’s Eve, of all nights! Does Old Lee even know about this? A string of questions popped into her head.
"Aunt Xie, Happy New Year!" Si Ruoqi said, sitting down on the sofa with perfect poise. "Uncle Sun, Happy New Year!"
Sun Youzhi, who had just come out of his room, froze.
Why is there another young woman in the house? Looking closer, isn’t this the girl my wife tried to set my son up with? How did she find her way to our door? I thought we made it clear to her and her mother, Old Lee, that it wasn’t going to work. What is going on?
"Happy New Year to you too, young lady. Please, have a seat. I’ll go get you a cup of tea," Old Sun said, decisively fleeing the scene.
This kind of tense situation made him break out in a sweat. An old man like him couldn’t handle such a dramatic scene.
Madam Xie, however, managed to hold her ground. She walked over and sat down beside Si Ruoqi. "Has your family already had your New Year’s Eve dinner?" she asked.
"Yes, we have, Aunt Xie," Si Ruoqi replied, sitting with her back ramrod straight.
"After dinner, did your parents head to the card rooms?" Madam Xie asked again.
Si Ruoqi smiled. "My parents used to love playing cards, I know. But now that I’m home, I don’t let them go anymore. Their health isn’t the best, and those card rooms are so smoky and foul. Staying there for too long would be bad for them."
"You did the right thing. Playing less is for the best," Madam Xie affirmed, giving a nod of approval. "So, if you’ve already eaten, what brings you here? Don’t your parents need you at home?"
"My parents are watching the Spring Festival Gala; they don’t need me to keep them company. I took the liberty of coming over today just to wish you and Uncle a happy New Year. Tomorrow is the first day of the new year, and I have to go visit my uncle in the countryside," Si Ruoqi explained.
"That’s very considerate of you. Your Uncle Sun and I thank you, and we wish you a happy New Year as well. Now that you’ve paid your respects, you should hurry on home. Don’t make your parents worry."
"It’s freezing outside; I’m sure your parents are concerned about you being out by yourself," Madam Xie added.
"Alright!" Si Ruoqi stood up agreeably.
As she reached the door, she slapped her forehead as if a thought just struck her. "Aunt Xie, you’re right. My parents would be worried about me walking outside alone. How about you let Brother Sun see me home?"
Huh? What does this have to do with me?
Sun Dasheng, who had been engrossed in his phone, was completely taken aback.
