Chapter 113: Chapter 16
「Early the next morning.」
The two women had prepared breakfast for him. After he finished eating, Sun Dasheng took out the gifts he had prepared. They were two exquisite Vacheron Constantin ladies’ watches—the same model as the ones that had been crushed at the airport. He had originally bought them for the two sisters, so after they were destroyed, he went and purchased another pair.
The sisters were very close, so they naturally didn’t mind receiving identical watches. They happily helped each other put them on. It was quite a harmonious scene.
Honestly, I quite like this kind of atmosphere, Sun Dasheng thought. If only all my women could get along this well... Of course, I know that’s impossible. It’s in a woman’s nature to be competitive. This kind of harmony is a rare exception.
"MWAH! Thank you, my dear," Xiang Yiren said, kissing him on the left cheek first.
Not to be outdone, Jiang Ziyan immediately planted a matching one on his right cheek.
Seeing the neat, symmetrical lipstick marks on both sides of his face, the two women looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"What’s wrong?" Sun Dasheng asked in surprise. He used his phone’s front-facing camera to take a look and was left at a loss for whether to laugh or cry at the two symmetrical "stamps" on his cheeks.
"Why are you wearing lipstick so early in the morning?" Sun Dasheng grumbled, impartially giving each of them a light smack on the butt.
After their playful tussle, they went to the villa’s front gate. The two women watched as the man stuffed various items into his car, preparing to leave.
"Brother Sun, Happy New Year! Be safe on the road," Xiang Yiren said, waving reluctantly.
"When you arrive safely, be sure to send us a message. My sister and I will be waiting to hear that you’re okay," Jiang Ziyan added.
"Don’t worry. You two have a good New Year here at home. I’ve already bought everything for you, and it will be delivered straight to your door," he said before getting into the car and driving away.
After the car departed, Jiang Ziyan remained at the villa’s front gate, resting her head on Xiang Yiren’s shoulder.
"Sister Yiren, when do you think we can go to Brother Sun’s hometown for the New Year?"
Xiang Yiren gently tapped her on the head. "It’s windy out here. Let’s go inside so you don’t catch a cold. If you get sick, your dear Brother Sun will come looking for me, and I can’t afford to replace you." It seemed she had said everything and nothing at all.
After leaving the villa, the car made another stop at Wu Xiaoli’s home. Mother Wu had also been brought there to recuperate.
It didn’t take much effort to move the items from the car into the house. Sun Dasheng, though in his thirties, was freakishly fit. For him, such heavy lifting was as easy as eating a meal.
Mother Wu, however, saw it differently. He’s handsome, has a great demeanor, is wealthy, and still so hardworking... He’s every mother’s dream son-in-law. Better than I could have ever imagined. It’s just a pity my daughter has been married before; I wonder if he minds. Otherwise, to have such a son-in-law would be a blessing from a past life.
"Da Sheng, you’ve worked hard. Quick, drink a cup of honey water," Mother Wu said, personally bringing him a steaming mug.
"It’s no trouble at all, Auntie. Thank you. Please, sit down. You’re still recovering, so don’t move around too much, or Xiaoli will surely blame me."
Sun Dasheng took the honey water, drained it in one gulp, and helped her to the sofa.
"She wouldn’t dare," Mother Wu said, her tone carrying a natural authority. "If she ever throws a tantrum at you, you just tell me. I’ll be the one to teach her a lesson."
Sun Dasheng was deeply moved. What a great mother-in-law. Why couldn’t I have met someone like her sooner?
After putting away the things he had brought, Wu Xiaoli walked out. "Mom, who made you angry this time? Who are you planning to teach a lesson?"
Luckily, she had only heard the last part. If she knew her mother intended to teach *her* a lesson, she would have felt so wronged. When they were together, it was always Sun Dasheng teasing her; when would she ever get the chance to bully him?
"You’re not missing anything for the New Year now, are you?" Sun Dasheng asked, seeing it was about time for him to go.
"Do you have to catch your train? Be safe on the road." Wu Xiaoli didn’t say much more, letting her eyes convey all her concern.
Sun Dasheng acknowledged it with a nod, then turned and left.
Tickets from Shanghai City to his hometown were relatively easy to buy because people from his region usually chose to work down south. Not many came to Shanghai City, unlike people from Li Sili’s hometown, who all flocked to the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai area.
The business class cabin on the high-speed train was very spacious, quiet, and sparsely occupied. Of course, there were always exceptions—like Sun Dasheng’s cousin, Sun Dacheng, sitting next to him, who had been making one voice call after another since he boarded.
"Okay, Auntie, don’t you worry. I’m traveling back with Brother Da Sheng. With me looking out for him, you can rest completely assured he’ll be safe."
The last call was to Sun Dasheng’s mother, after which Sun Dasheng’s ears finally got some peace and quiet.
A few hours later, the high-speed train arrived at River City. Two company Mercedes were waiting in the station’s parking area.
"Did you arrange all this?" Sun Dasheng asked, somewhat astonished. This kid’s got some real initiative.
Sun Dacheng gave a crafty laugh. "Just serving my leader!"
As a company executive—and more importantly, the boss’s own cousin—he certainly had the authority to commandeer two company vehicles. He had arranged for drivers to bring the cars here in advance and leave them in long-term parking.
"Still, there was no need for two cars. Did you just want one to drive around and show off to our friends and relatives over the holiday, you brat?" Sun Dasheng asked.
"Hey, what are you talking about, Brother Da Sheng?" Sun Dacheng protested. "I, your little brother, was just thinking that it would be too unimpressive for a big boss like you to come home with only one car."
Of course, he couldn’t admit that he really just wanted a car to drive himself so he could show off to their relatives and old friends.
Forget it. Sun Dasheng didn’t intend to press him on his little scheme.
"So what now? Are we driving back ourselves?" Sun Dasheng asked.
"Of course not. I already called for designated drivers while we were on the train. They should be here any moment," Sun Dacheng said.
