Chapter 76: Chapter 76 Sorry, I am not interested in what you said!
"Sihan? What are you doing here?"
Sun Dasheng was a bit surprised. He suddenly remembered what Yun Yuqing had said about Fang Sihan attending a birthday party for someone from her hometown.
Could this person be his cousin’s roommate, Feng Tiantian?
"This is a friend from my hometown I met a while back. She invited me to her birthday party today," Fang Sihan explained.
Seeing the tension between them, she asked, "Is there some kind of misunderstanding between you two?"
"Misunderstanding? There’s no misunderstanding. Just pay up now, Feng, and stop beating around the bush," Wang Xin said, ignoring the peacemaker who had suddenly appeared. She continued her tirade against Feng Tiantian. "And this man standing beside me? He’s my cousin. You think this has nothing to do with him?"
"I just owe you a little money, is that any reason to be so aggressive? Did I ever say I wouldn’t pay you back?" Feng Tiantian said self-righteously.
Well now. Who was it just a moment ago who said, "I borrowed the money on my own merit, why should I have to repay it?" Her previous words were nothing but hot air. This ability to tailor her words to her audience, to lie without batting an eye, wasn’t something an ordinary person could learn. It was probably because of Fang Sihan, the outsider, that she changed her tune.
Sun Dasheng gave her an unexpected glance.
In her eyes, could a friend she’d only just met really mean that much to her? Enough to make her instantly change her story and promise to pay the money back?
Seeing a few people inside the private room looking over, Feng Tiantian quickly pushed Fang Sihan, trying to get her to leave. "Sihan, you go on inside. I can handle things out here."
"No need. I’ve finished eating, and since Uncle is here, I’ll just leave with him," Fang Sihan said. "Oh, and thank you for your hospitality today."
She could see the situation clearly now. Her Uncle’s cousin was in a bitter, unresolvable conflict with this ’friend’ she’d just met. Assessing the situation, she knew exactly what to do: unconditionally side with Uncle, of course.
"Tiantian, what exactly happened? Why isn’t it resolved yet?" a dissatisfied voice called from the private room. "And why did your friend leave too?"
Feng Tiantian flinched. She quickly forced a smile, turned toward the room, and said, "I’m sorry, Hua Sha, it will be settled in just a moment.
"My friend just had too much to drink and went to the restroom. She’ll be right back, don’t worry."
After speaking, she turned back around. Without hesitation, she picked up her phone and made a WeChat voice call.
"Don’t talk, just listen!"
In that instant, she became a queen.
"Li Wei, didn’t you say you liked me? Fine. Don’t say I never gave you a chance. Transfer some money to me right now to prove that you’re serious and this isn’t just lip service."
"How much? That’s up to you."
"Transfer as much as you think you like me. The amount isn’t important; it’s the thought that counts."
"Of course, if you don’t show enough sincerity, I won’t give you another chance. The ball’s in your court."
"What? You only have a little over 2,000 on you? You useless thing! I give you a chance and you can’t even take it."
"Oh? You can borrow another 10,000 from a loan app? Alright then, borrow it all and transfer it to me."
"Is that enough sincerity? It’s decent. I’ll put you on the shortlist. You’ve earned the right to pursue me."
...
This whole exchange was dumbfounding.
So, there really were such extreme bootlickers on university campuses.
After receiving the money, she resorted to her old tricks and got another 5,000 from bootlicker number two. After repaying Wang Xin, she even had some left over.
The tactic was effective, but it was like killing the goose that laid the golden eggs. It was a one-time deal. These two high-quality bootlickers were now all used up. She’d have to find new ones.
"I’ve paid you back all the money. You can go now, right?" After paying her back, her tone became more forceful.
"Alright, we’re even. From now on, we owe each other nothing. Bye-bye," Wang Xin said. She was the type who didn’t drag things out. She turned and coolly left with her cousin, and Fang Sihan went with them.
"You two can go, but she can’t," Feng Tiantian said, stepping in their way and pointing at Fang Sihan.
Wang Xin said nothing, just glanced at her cousin. She had a hunch that this girl’s relationship with her cousin was anything but simple.
"Oh? And why can’t she leave?" Sun Dasheng asked, his voice devoid of amusement.
"She’s my guest today, and we have more activities planned. Of course, you can’t take her away right now."
That’s what she said out loud, but her thoughts were entirely different.
Had she invited this girl she barely knew because they’d hit it off instantly? Was it a case of "countrymen meeting countrymen, eyes welling with tears"? Of course not. It was more like "countrymen meeting countrymen, only to stab them in the back."
It was all because of her special guest at the birthday banquet, Hua Sha—Hua Peng. He had casually mentioned that the rich heirs in their circle loved to play around with girls from the arts academy, and she had taken that to heart. She hadn’t invited Fang Sihan over with any good intentions. Earlier at the dinner table, she had planned to get her drunk.
Unfortunately, despite being a bona fide Northeasterner, this girl claimed to have an alcohol allergy and wouldn’t touch a drop. Of course, that was just her story; who knew what the truth was. Regardless, she hadn’t touched any alcohol that evening.
My mission to sell out my ’friend’ for my own glory and riches isn’t complete yet. How could I possibly let her slip away now?
"Oh? The person in question is right here. Why don’t you just ask her if she wants to stay or go?" Sun Dasheng said nonchalantly.
Fang Sihan certainly didn’t want to stay. In fact, she had sensed her ’friend’s’ ulterior motives at the dinner table. Who on earth keeps pushing drinks on someone who has barely had a few bites of food? She had, of course, made excuses to refuse. Even if Uncle hadn’t shown up, she would have found an opportunity to slip away.
Before she could voice her rejection, Feng Tiantian put on an act. She grabbed Fang Sihan’s hand, saying in a tone thick with emotion, "Sihan, I truly consider you a good sister. We’re going to KTV next, and I need you there to be my rock!"
She started by buttering her up. "Without you, they might all leave. You’re my anchor! Please, I’m begging you. You know we people from the Northeast don’t usually ask for favors, and this is the first time I’m ever asking. You can’t refuse, or I’ll completely lose face in front of my friends."
Applying both soft and hard tactics, she then tried to tempt her. "That Hua Sha inside... his family may own mines in Jilin, but he has a powerful network here in Shanghai City, including connections in the entertainment industry. Aren’t you an arts student studying acting? He could pull some strings to get you acting roles."
"Opportunity knocks but once!"
Her words were filled with a sense of deep, heartfelt concern, as if she only had Fang Sihan’s best interests at heart. But no matter how eloquently she pleaded, Fang Sihan was unmoved.
She knew which was better: a second-generation heir or a first-generation millionaire. One was a distant, nebulous, unverifiable heir; the other was a tangible, flesh-and-blood millionaire standing right beside her.
"Sorry, I’m not interested in any of that," Fang Sihan refused calmly.
