Chapter 95: Chapter 2 Xiaowang, I Can’t Accept You Calling Me Mom (Please Subscribe First)
"She probably doesn’t know," Wu Xiaoli said, shaking her head.
"Then, have you told your mom about the divorce?" he asked again.
"Mm-hmm," Wu Xiaoli nodded.
So that’s it.
"Your mom must think I’m a decent son-in-law candidate, so she’s pushing you to spend more time with me," Sun Dasheng said with a smile. "My mother-in-law certainly has good taste."
Wu Xiaoli walked beside him, smiling without a word, as if in silent agreement.
The park near the hospital was quite large. Tired from their walk, they found a quiet place to sit. Sun Dasheng stretched out his arms, and Wu Xiaoli nestled obediently into his embrace.
The biggest difference between her and other women was her suppleness. Her body was so soft and pliable; holding her felt like hugging SpongeBob SquarePants. It was incredibly comfortable.
After they held each other for a while, the sun peeked through the clouds, bathing them in its warmth. It felt pleasant on their skin. Sun Dasheng shifted, resting his head on Wu Xiaoli’s plump thigh, and dozed off. Soon after, faint snores could be heard.
Seeing the man in her arms fall asleep so quickly, she gently smoothed his furrowed brow and caressed his handsome face.
Such a wonderful man. If only I had met him sooner.
Half an hour later, Sun Dasheng awoke in the beautiful woman’s arms.
Opening his eyes, the first thing he asked was, "Did I just fall asleep?"
Wu Xiaoli smiled. "You even snored."
"Impossible. I never snore."
She didn’t argue. It was hardly snoring; it had only lasted for a couple of minutes at the beginning.
"What have you been doing these past few days? Why are you so tired?"
What have I been *doing*? Let’s just say it involved a lot of ’doing.’ I haven’t been up to any proper business, just busy with... other activities. I really have the system to thank for this. If it hadn’t strengthened my body, I probably would have ended up like Ximen Qing—dead from overexertion.
"Nothing much," he said, masking the truth. "The company just got a bit busier since it’s the end of the year."
"Well, once you’re done with work, remember to get some rest," Wu Xiaoli said, cradling his head and giving him a massage.
"Mm!"
Sun Dasheng squinted, a refreshing clarity spreading through his mind. Her superb massage skills were truly addictive.
"Is the contract for the new apartment signed?" Sun Dasheng asked.
"Mm-hmm."
"Did you buy new furniture and appliances?"
"The furniture and appliances left by the previous landlord are still quite new. There’s no need to waste money."
Wu Xiaoli really is the epitome of a ’good wife and wise mother.’ Women like her are rare these days. Why do the Little Fairies online label the term ’good wife and wise mother’ as derogatory and constantly attack it? Of course, it’s because they simply can’t live up to that standard. For them, the bar for being a good wife and wise mother is higher than Mount Tai. Since they can’t reach it, they naturally resort to stigmatizing it. With a woman like this, as long as she’s completely devoted to you, you can entrust the entire household to her and not have a single worry.
Sun Dasheng was happy to let her decide.
The winter sun always knocked off early. Without its warmth, the air began to feel cold.
"Let’s go back," Sun Dasheng said, getting up. He pulled Wu Xiaoli up from the grass, took her hand, and they headed back to the hospital ward.
「In the hospital ward.」
An unexpected person had barged in.
"Mom, I’ve come to see you. Are you feeling any better?" Wang Jiadong, dressed respectably, walked in with his hands full of gift boxes.
Mother Wu glanced at him before turning her head away.
"Little Wang, you and Xiaoli are divorced. I can’t accept you calling me ’Mom.’ Please leave."
But Wang Jiadong was shamelessly thick-skinned, refusing to leave no matter how he was scolded. He just kept grinning as he placed the gift boxes on the table.
"Mom, Xiaoli and I just had a little misunderstanding. The divorce was done in a fit of anger. Once she cools down, the agreement won’t be valid."
"Who says the divorce agreement won’t be valid?" a cold voice cut in from the doorway.
Wang Jiadong turned and immediately rushed over with a smile. "Xiaoli, I was just looking for you! It’s all my fault, a thousand times my fault. If you’ll just forgive me, I promise I’ll live a good life with you from now on."
"I swear I won’t go out fooling around with those bad influences anymore."
His belated promise was worth less than used toilet paper.
"My mother is unwell and needs to rest. Please leave," Wu Xiaoli said, ordering him out.
"I know our mo—" He cut himself off when he saw her deadly glare and quickly corrected himself. "I knew Auntie wasn’t feeling well, so I came to see her."
"You’ve seen her. Now you can go." Wu Xiaoli remained unmoved.
"Don’t be so heartless. After all, even a brief marriage creates a lasting bond, and we were husband and wife for several years." Wang Jiadong desperately fought on, still thinking he had a chance.
"I’m sorry, but you should leave now. He’ll be here any minute, and I don’t want him to get the wrong idea."
He?
The word reminded him of the Bentley he’d seen at the gate of their community. He had been telling himself ever since that it wasn’t what he thought, that it was just a rideshare she had called.
"Who is he?" Wang Jiadong finally snapped.
"He is me. Long time no see, old classmate!" Sun Dasheng, who was a few minutes late from a quick trip to the restroom, appeared at the door.
That phrase, ’old classmate,’ felt like a Boomerang. It flew all the way from that Porsche in the underground parking lot to land squarely in his heart.
"You... Sun Dasheng? How can it be you?"
Incredible! He refused to believe it. A jobless, divorced, worthless loser had actually stolen his wife? He couldn’t see a single thing about himself that was inferior to this man. Why? If they weren’t in a hospital, he would have thrown his head back and howled at the sky.
"Yes, it’s him. Let me introduce you. This is my new partner," Wu Xiaoli said, naturally taking Sun Dasheng’s arm. She then turned to her ex-husband, Wang Jiadong, and spoke with cold finality. "You need to leave now. I don’t want him to get angry."
"What does he have that I don’t?" Wang Jiadong demanded, refusing to accept it.
"He’s better than you in every way." Though Wu Xiaoli’s voice was calm, her words were colder than ice, chilling him to the bone.
"Auntie, so what if Xiaoli doesn’t want to be with me anymore? You can’t let her be with this man! He has nothing. He just got fired and his wife divorced him. He has absolutely nothing! If she stays with him, she’s in for a life of suffering! You have to keep your eyes open!" Seeing that he couldn’t persuade Wu Xiaoli, he turned his efforts to winning over her mother. He was trying desperately to salvage his last sliver of pathetic pride.
My wife can end up with anyone, just not Sun Dasheng!
If Sun Dasheng knew how much he was being singled out, he would surely pat Wang Jiadong on the shoulder and say, "You’ve worked hard for this, my friend."
Mother Wu, who had been silent the whole time, tossed out a single, light sentence.
"I think that Da Sheng is a pretty good kid!"
Checkmate! Oh, heavens! Oh, earth! What is wrong with these people? Has Sun Dasheng put them all under a spell? Why is every single one of them speaking so highly of him? If he’s so great, why did his wife—my campus goddess—divorce him? They’re wrong! All of them are wrong!
Unfortunately, no one was listening to him drone on. The nurse eventually asked him to leave, citing that he was disturbing the patient.
"You’ll all regret this someday!" his curse echoed from outside the door.
"Mom, I didn’t mean to hide it from you," Wu Xiaoli said hurriedly after he was gone.
"There’s no need to explain. You’re my daughter; do you think I don’t know your character? You never would have taken this step if life in their family hadn’t been truly awful. It’s all my fault. If it weren’t for that surgery money back then, you never would have had to marry into a family like that."
"You’ve suffered all these years, my girl."
"Because of your chronically ill mother and your troublemaking brother, you’ve suffered so much all these years..."
"Mom, I’ve never blamed you. Without you two, I wouldn’t be who I am today."
The mother and daughter embraced, weeping together. Standing to the side, Sun Dasheng felt a bit like a third wheel and was looking for a chance to slip away. He didn’t expect the conversation to suddenly turn to him.
"That boy, Da Sheng, I felt a connection to him the moment I saw him. He’s a good kid. A man with his prospects doesn’t even mind that you’re divorced. When you’re with him, you must take good care of the home and build a good life. That’s more important than anything."
"As for that troublemaking brother of yours, let him stay in there and be reformed for a few years. It will keep him from making even bigger mistakes in the future," Mother Wu said earnestly. She had finally come to terms with it. Her daughter had suffered a great deal for the family. If she had a chance to escape her sea of misery and start a new life, it was something to be encouraged.
"Mom, thank you!" Wu Xiaoli cried with joy. It was the first time her mother had ever clearly stated her support for the divorce. In the past, it had always been, "They helped us, so you must repay their kindness. Don’t bring up divorce over every little grievance."
Perhaps due to the emotional fluctuation, Mother Wu soon fell asleep again. After settling her mother, Wu Xiaoli called Sun Dasheng to the hospital rooftop.
The sun was setting, and the city skyline stretched out before them, seemingly without end.
Dahu City... it’s huge!
"What’s so important that you had to bring me all the way up here?" Sun Dasheng asked, leaning against the railing.
The evening breeze rustled Wu Xiaoli’s long hair. She tucked a stray strand behind her ear and stood beside him. "Brother Sun, there’s something I need your opinion on."
"What is it?" Sun Dasheng asked.
"The money you transferred to me... after paying for the apartment, there are still three million left. I want to use it to pay back the money Wang Jiadong spent on my mother’s medical bills."
"Is that okay?" she asked, tilting her head up to look at the man beside her, her expression seeking his approval.
Sun Dasheng chuckled and pinched her cheek. "I already gave you the money. How you spend it is your business. You don’t need to ask for my opinion."
Wu Xiaoli shook her head seriously. "No, this is different."
"Oh? How is it different?" he asked.
"If I were to use this money for shopping or having fun, I certainly wouldn’t bring it up with you. I know that’s pocket money you gave me. But this is for repaying a debt—and a debt to my ex-husband at that. I feel I should ask for your opinion first, so as not to harm our relationship."
So as not to harm their relationship, huh? This woman really was meticulous.
He knew most men were more broad-minded and probably wouldn’t have said anything even if they found out later she’d used the money to pay off a debt. But the fact that she had taken the initiative to seriously ask for his opinion beforehand made him genuinely happy.
