Hei Deng Xia Huo
Chapter 129 Giant Beast (9)
General Staeker turned his head to see a girl slowly rising from behind a console in the rear of the command center.
She was wearing the uniform of a PPDc mecha engineering member, with short pink hair, a petite figure, a charming face, and a faint smile on her lips.
It was Xiaoxiao, the Cabrini mecha pilot belonging to the European Heavy Industries Group.
Whoosh—
Staeker abruptly drew his pistol from his waist and pointed it at her. At almost the same time,
the security personnel standing in the corners of the command center,
the mecha pilots in tactical gear,
all drew their guns and aimed at the pink-haired girl.
"Who are you?"
Staeker asked, narrowing his eyes. As the PPDc senior officer in charge of Hong Kong City, he knew the faces of thousands of mid- to high-level personnel in the Hong Kong City fortress.
He couldn't possibly have no impression of a mecha engineering member qualified to be in the command center.
"I, we, come with friendship."
The pink-haired girl smiled sweetly, and after seeing Staeker and the others remain unmoved, she helplessly supported her forehead with the back of her hand, sighing and complaining, "Ah—
I clearly infiltrated and got a good identity,
but all my efforts are wasted."
She sighed to herself, stroking her forehead,
but Staeker's expression didn't waver in the slightest.
He tilted his head slightly, and the guards on either side immediately stepped forward with their guns raised, intending to arrest Xiaoxiao.
Xiaoxiao stood still, her expression unchanged.
As the guards approached the console,
a black-haired youth with round glasses and a bitter expression stood up behind the computer desk next to her.
A dark red glint flashed in the black-haired youth's left eye. Without any apparent movement,
there was a "zzzt" sound,
and the Bluetooth headsets worn by all the guards simultaneously emitted violent noise, causing them to stop in their tracks, their faces contorted.
Other PPDc members wearing Bluetooth headsets were also affected.
Newton Geiszler, the chief biologist of the PPDc Monster Science Department, dropped his headset as if electrocuted, wincing and rubbing his ears. His elbow accidentally swept the coffee on the table,
causing it to spill onto the keyboard, sparking and smoking, but fortunately preventing the computer from failing.
On the other hand, Staeker himself, and the mecha pilots standing next to him, were completely unaffected—
Their headsets also erupted with sharp noise,
but a golden light appeared out of nowhere around them, reducing the impact of the noise to a minimum.
"Releasing A.T. field without a mecha?"
The black-haired youth, or rather, Li Ang's acquaintance, Black Stallion of the Whale Song organization, was stunned.
Xiaoxiao next to him, sized up Staeker and the others, shaking her head and saying, "No, they are all wearing tactical suits, and the tactical suits conceal small Kaiju pineal organs,
which can release A.T. fields without wearing a mecha.
This is probably to prevent overly precious mecha pilots from dying in accidents outside of battle."
"The accidents you speak of also include assassinations by extreme anti-human organizations, and retaliation by a minority of irrational civilians."
Chuck Hansen, the blond pilot next to Staeker, said coldly, "Who exactly are you? What is your relationship with the middle-aged man on the screen?"
"..."
Hearing the description of "middle-aged man," a strange expression appeared on Black Stallion's face.
Xiaoxiao sighed and said calmly, "First of all, the person on the screen is not a real middle-aged man.
He has slain powerful demonic creatures no less formidable than the deep-sea beasts of your world, and in a sense, saved the Earth. Not long ago, he personally killed an awakened deity.
Secondly, he is our teammate—although from his behavior, he doesn't seem to care at all that this is a team effort,
nor does he care about the life or death of us teammates..."
Xiaoxiao complained garrulously.
Black Stallion next to him saw the increasingly gloomy expressions on Staeker and the others' faces, coughed lightly, and reminded his teammate.
"Oh,"
Xiaoxiao reacted, tilted her head and said, "You can call the person on the screen Li Risheng. I'm Xiaoxiao, and the person next to me is Black Stallion.
Like the deep-sea beasts, we are visitors from another world,
but the deep-sea beasts came to destroy you, while we came to destroy them—
Li Risheng has already demonstrated his 'sincerity' and his ability to destroy the world.
Although the two of us are not as strong as him individually, we still have some ability to disrupt social order..."
Xiaoxiao patted her chest lightly, as if brushing dust off her collar.
Buzz—
A strange engine roar resounded in the command center.
Behind Xiaoxiao, spiderweb-like cracks clearly appeared in the space.
A massive amount of metal mechanical structures poured out of the void, surrounding Xiaoxiao,
quickly assembling into a seven-meter-tall Cabrini mecha with a pink and white paint job and exaggerated adsorption wings.
"So,"
Xiaoxiao's voice, somewhat muffled by the broadcasting system, came from inside the Cabrini mecha that suddenly appeared in the command center, "Let's skip the unnecessary threats, probing, and haggling, and have an open and honest negotiation."
"..."
General Staeker looked up at the mecha, whose style was clearly different from the mechas built by the PPDc, remained silent for a moment, and slowly lowered his weapon.
The other stunned PPDc members followed suit, lowering their weapons.
————
"Huh?"
On the highway outside the Hong Kong City fortress, Li Ang raised his eyebrows slightly, somewhat strangely.
The eight mechas that had sped out of the fortress suddenly stopped moving, silently retreated to the sides of the highway, and cleared the road for Li Ang.
Recognizing the situation and giving up resistance,
or did other potential teammates contribute?
Li Ang thought casually in his mind, not paying too much attention. He put away the Colt revolver, strode forward, passed the two rows of mechas, and walked straight towards the fortress gate.
Whish, whish.
The waves lapped against the foundation stones on both sides of the highway, drenching the desolate weeds that were already struggling to grow in the cracks in the stones.
The searchlights on top of the fortress illuminated the road for Li Ang.
Accompanied by the sound of a large number of mechanical components rotating, rubbing, and colliding,
the heavy metal gate, over twenty meters high and capable of defending against modern artillery fire, automatically opened in front of Li Ang, revealing the interior of the fortress.
This was an extremely wide, semi-elliptical space.
The dome was a grid-like skylight.
The ground was made of metal, black, with yellow or white markings everywhere to guide the way.
PPDc personnel wearing different colored light uniforms from various departments walked and ran around, either holding tablets and reports,
or driving small cars to transport supplies, ammunition, and maintenance tools.
Since the PPDc was an international organization, the personnel inside were racially diverse, and many non-Hong Kong City locals could be seen, including white and black people—
In the face of an alien civilization trying to destroy everything, the humans of the world had united as never before, even though they had hated and killed each other before.
Li Ang's arrival disrupted the original busy rhythm of the PPDc personnel.
This fortress, called the Shattered Dome, was home to 50,000 PPDc members, who were responsible for repairing and building various mechas, and fighting the deep-sea beasts.
They were also responsible for handling city defense matters related to the deep-sea beasts.
They were already overwhelmed by the pale lichen spreading throughout Hong Kong City, and now, seeing Li Ang appear, they all stopped what they were doing and stood still, not daring to move.
Two rows of fully armed soldiers ran from the narrow doors on either side of the main gate, but they didn't know what to do, so they held their weapons at a distance, forming a "deterrent."
Li Ang didn't pay attention to these ordinary people. His gaze passed over the crowd, looking towards the rear, the true protagonists of the Shattered Dome fortress.
Mechas!
Super-heavy mechas!
Most of the area inside the Shattered Dome fortress was divided into six blocks.
Each block was built with towering vertical metal structures, like modern rocket launch pads.
They were surrounded by scaffolding, tower cranes, and layers of maintenance platforms.
And at the center of the maintenance platforms stood the war machines that symbolized the crystallization of human wisdom in this world.
"Crimson Typhoon, manufactured by the Northern Industries Manufacturing Plant, assembled in Biling, Mark-4 fourth-generation mecha, height 76.3 meters, weight 6900 tons, made of titanium alloy, operating system is 'Three Suns' Horizon Gateway, power core is 'Midnight 9' toroidal processing core, turbine piston drive.
Pilots, three.
Record, seven deep-sea beasts."
Data that Li Ang had obtained earlier using psychic mind-reading appeared in his mind, his gaze fixed on a super-heavy mecha with a red color scheme.
The mecha had a flat, square head like a searchlight, an exceptionally strong left arm, and two relatively slender right arms.
At the end of each arm, there were three fingers made of titanium alloy.
These fingers could rotate at high speed, like a cutting machine, shredding anything that stood in its way—including deep-sea beasts.
Crimson Typhoon was located in Hangar Three at the main gate.
And in Hangars Two, Four, and Five next to it, there were three other heavy mechas parked.
They were the third-generation mecha Gipsy Danger, originally from Alaska, USA,
the first-generation mecha Cherno Alpha, originally from Vladivostok, Russia,
and the fifth-generation mecha Striker Eureka, originally from Sydney, Australia.
All four of these mechas were over 70 meters tall and weighed over 6,000 tons.
The oldest but most sturdy and fierce Cherno Alpha weighed a terrifying 8,900 tons, and relied entirely on two nuclear reactors for power.
"Wow."
Like the vast majority of teenagers around the world,
after seeing these giant humanoid mechas exuding a fierce, cold metallic aura, Li Ang sincerely praised them.
Who wouldn't want to pilot a Gundam?
If the other mechas of three, five, or ten meters in size were enlarged human soldiers,
then these four super-heavy mechas were true war machines.
Creak—
The sound of an elevator descending came from the elevator shaft next to the main gate.
A team of PPDc people stepped out of the elevator.
The short-haired Asian woman in the lead (with the mecha engineering department logo and the name "Mako Mori" on her chest) looked at Li Ang warily and respectfully, "Mr. Li, we, on behalf of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, welcome you."
